Liu Chang Characters Fortnight, April 3rd - 16th

The 2023 Liu Chang Characters Fortnight will be from Monday April 3rd - Sunday April 16th. These weeks celebrate all of Liu Chang’s characters in the DMBJ universe - Liu Sang, Wang Can, Yan Sanxing, Jiang Wu, and Liu Qianmo (although other of Liu Chang’s characters imported from their canon into DMBJ would certainly also fit!)

Liu Chang as Liu Qianmo in 平妖往事 / Ping Yao Wang Shi 

This is a 60-minute side story (30 episodes of 2 minutes each) about Liu Sang’s ancestor (and his friend, Wang Meng’s ancestor). It’s a side story for The Lost Tomb Reboot. That’s basically everything I know about it because I don’t speak Chinese and it doesn’t have English subs. It is not one of those shows where you can kind of figure out what’s happening from the visuals alone, although I did try!

Spotlight on: Shi Nian & Chongqi / Reunion: The Sound of the Providence

Shi Nian / Ten Years Later (十年之后) is the short story that covers Xiaoge returning from his ten years behind the Bronze Door.

Chongqi / Reboot (重启) is an in-progress sequel novel set approx. 5 years later, covering a new adventure back on the trail of Sanshu, the Thunder City, and searching for a cure for Wu Xie’s illness.

Chongqi has been adapted into the two season TV drama Chongqi Zhi Ji Hai Tinglei / Reunion: the Sound of the Providence (重啟之極海聽雷). There are also two short spinoff series, Ping Yao Wang Shi (平妖往事) and Yue Yun Hui Sheng / Moonfall Echo (月陨回声).

Summary - Chongqi

After fulfilling his ten year promise with Zhang Qiling, Wu Xie is now living in seclusion in Fujian. One day, he suddenly received a text message from his uncle, Wu Sanxing. Through various clues his uncle left behind, Wu Xie finds an ancient tomb that may be related to his uncle’s past. The tomb is the legendary South Sea King’s Tomb. But just as Wu Xie plans to search for it, Jin Wantang reveals his plan to his Uncle Two. After Ershu stops him and hears the story, he decides to join Wu Xie, Pangzi, and Zhang Qiling as they search for the tomb.

Season 1: The Iron Triangle Wu Xie, Pang Zi and Zhang Qiling restart their adventure after receiving an unusual text from Wu Sanxing. Wu Xie, Pang Zi  and Zhang Qiling  have hung up their hats to end a ten-year promise. After trading their adventures for a normal life, a text from Wu Sanxing drives them to embark on a mysterious journey for the sake of family and friendship. 

Season 2: After finding out that Wu Sanxing discovered the secret of listening to thunder in the section of irredeemable goods in Warehouse 11, Wu Xie sets out with Pang Zi, Zhang Qiling, Bai Hao Tian, and others to discover the Thunder City. But as they learn of this secret, a long-hidden conspiracy is gradually approaching them.

It revolves around Liu Sang and Wang Meng's ancestor, Liu Qianmo and Nanmeng Denghai who searches for the Wu Tong Immortal to seek revenge.  

Summary - Yue Yun Hui Sheng / Moonfall Echo (via mydramalist)

Liu Sang and Li Jia Le were dispatched by Wu Xie to participate in an archaeological project. The two saw a mural at the archaeological site. The mural recorded the story of Moonbend Princess Qi Xia and young Jiang Wu. At the same time, they also found a peculiar meteorite. In the process of studying the meteorite jade, the two unexpectedly came to the world recorded in the mural.
