i think the biggest letdown of lok is how they take the magic system of this universe and then just kind of fully play calvinball with it. nothing has consequences or interesting solutions because there's always just a new Thing suddenly that avatar powers or spirit powers can do with very little explanation or build up. nothing feels earned.

I know the messy love triangle is what made the end so satisfying but man I wish there was no love triangle..... I wish it was just petty instant dislike not valid at all. and that mako didn’t exist during the first two seasons. actually I’m *sure* someone’s written an au where korra met asami first I should look into it

I never shipped Korrasami but I'm so happy it happened and that it was endgame and confirmed by the creators. Because what it stands for, what it represents for queer representation in the media is more important than whether or not a majority "shipped" it or if everyone preferred or expected Makorra. Sure, I shipped Makorra, BUT 99% of the time the couples like Makorra become canon and the couples like Korrasami remain fanon or crackships. It's not like we're at a lack for straight canon couples.

aang's favoritism of tenzin and neglect of kya and bumi is simply terrible character writing. i'm not opposed to the idea of my faves being imperfect parents in fact that's something i love but it has GOT to make sense with their established character traits. if aang considered the earth refugees at the eastern temple capable of embodying the airbender spirit enough to give them his blessing to live in the temple im sure he'd at bare minimum feel the same way about HIS OWN CHILDREN and it's retroactive butchery of his character. there were plenty of things they could have done to make aang's children have a complicated relationship to him + each other that didn't involve denying 2 of his kids a big part of their heritage because they were born the wrong kind of bender. he would not fucking do that

its so fucking crazy how they have all these multiple scenes where the anti-bender people are protesting about how benders are oppressing them and korra is like either threatening them or actively assaulting/harassing them with bending. and instead of this being an arc where she realizes oh shit im the avatar but i've spent so long focused on bending as a physical and violent act that i've neglected the fact that the avatar's job is to try and bring harmony to disparate groups of people. the conclusion this arc gets is 'actually the anti-bender movement was astroturfed by A Bad Guy' GHHHGHGGFHHHHG!!! HOW!! WHY!!! THE ORIGINAL SHOW WAS CAPABLE OF HANDLING SOME REALLY COMPLICATED STUFF WITH DEFTNESS AND TACT DESPITE BEING FOR A YOUNGER AUDIENCE. HOW DO YOU REGRESS IN CRITICAL THOUGHT THIS BADLY.
