What’s New Since The Mahindra XUV300 Specification Update?
Tumblr media
Mahindra SA introduced minor updates to the Mahindra XUV300 for sale - a compact SUV that was launched here in 2019.
The ivory and beige interior of the India-built vehicle has been replaced by a black dashboard and black seat upholstery, after feedback from customers who called for a darker interior with a more upmarket look that attracts fewer smudges when travelling with children.
The darkened dash is still made of hard plastic instead of the classier-feeling soft-touch type, but that’s not unexpected in a budget range priced between R240,000 and R350,000.
A further improvement sees the infotainment system’s display growing from 7 inches to 9 inches, and all models with the touchscreen offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.
Despite the budget prices, the cars are decently kitted in a competitive segment that includes popular models like the Toyota Urban Cruiser, Ford EcoSport and Suzuki Vitara Brezza.
The XUV300’s range-topping W8 grade offers high-end items like dual-zone climate control, navigation, reversing camera,  leather-clad steering wheel, tyre pressure monitor, sunroof, self-dimming rear-view mirror, automatic headlamps and window wipers, as well as seven airbags.
Standard safety across the six-model range comprises at least two airbags, electronic stability control, ABS brakes, and ISOFIX seat mounts for child restraints. The XUV300 became the first car in Africa to achieve a maximum of five stars in Global NCAP crash tests.
The range continues to offer both petrol and diesel options, and all models are six-speed manuals with front-wheel drive.
The turbo petrol is a 1.2l unit with outputs of 81kW and 200Nm of torque. The turbo diesel is a four-cylinder 1.5l with 85.8kW, and with 300Nm it offers the best torque in its segment. It is also one of the most frugal vehicles in the category with its claimed 4.8l / 100km.
PRICING AND WARRANTY INFO
Pricing includes a five-year/150,000km warranty. The W4 and W4 SE have three-year/50,000km service plans; all other versions have five-year/90,000km service plans.

Top 10 best-selling SUVs in India in November 2022; Tata Nexon, Hyundai Creta and more

Mahindra Safety - High-Tech Vehicle Safety
The Mahindra XUV300 has received the title of Safest Car in Africa from the Global New Car Assessment Programme.
Tumblr media
First launched to a global audience in May 2019, the Mahindra XUV300 received a full five-star rating and the title ‘Safest Car Ever Tested by the Global New Car Assessment Programme (GNCAP)’ in 2020. Soon thereafter, in 2021, Mahindra South Africa submitted their own locally homologated version for testing and received a thumbs up from the GNCAP and the title of the Safest Car in Africa.
“It is worth noting that the GNCAP tested the most basic specification level of the XUV300 for its safety rating, both in South Africa and India. This means that even the entry-level W4 models are fully Five-Star Safety compliant and meet the standards that have made the model the GNCAP’s top performer,” says Rajesh Gupta, CEO of Mahindra South Africa.
For the 2022 model year, Mahindra has retained all the dynamic and passive safety features that have won the XUV300 its safety accolades, but with added features and upgrades to the three existing specification levels and the addition of an XUV300 W4 Special Edition (SE).
The safest choice
The Mahindra XUV300’s exemplary safety credentials remain unmatched in its class.
Tested by the GNCAP for both India and Africa, the XUV300 set a new benchmark for crash safety in its class and for vehicles in Africa in general. In fact, the GNCAP called it “a milestone moment for vehicle safety” and made particular mention of the fact that it was the entry-level model, not the best-specified version, that took home five stars meaning that regardless of your budget, you get the best possible safety.
During the tests, the GNCAP submitted the XUV300 to various side- and front-offset crash tests. It awarded the XUV300 a score of 16.42 out of 17 for adult protection, giving it five out of five stars.
The GNCAP also awarded the XUV300 with four stars for child protection, scoring it “Good” or “Adequate” in all areas of occupant protection, cabin intrusion and vehicle body deformation.
The entire XUV300 range is fitted with at least two airbags, electronic stability control (ESP), ABS brakes with emergency brakeforce distribution and disk wheels on all four wheels.
All models further have certified ISOFIX seat mounts for child restraints, which no doubt helped it to receive a very high rating for child and occupant safety.
Lastly, all models are equipped with speed-sensitive door locks, an impact sensing unlock function that opens doors in the case of a severe accident, a collapsible steering column and pre-tensioners and load limiters on the front seatbelts.
For buyers of the W8, the list of safety features grows substantially.
The W8 models add to the high specification level a further five airbags, including knee and side curtain airbags, for a total of seven airbags and a dynamic cornering brake control system that electronically distributes brake force to offer a higher level of dynamic steering and safety when the XUV300 is driven briskly.
The W8 also receives a panic braking system, bright warning lights fitted to the doors when open at night and Hill Hold Assist.
2022: Specification upgrade
While the XUV300’s safety credentials remain unchanged, it has made a number of interior upgrades to all specification levels.
All models, including the entry-level XUV300 W4 now has a dark interior with a black dashboard design and black seat upholstery. The upholstery is further upgraded from cloth to black leatherette on the W8 models.
This upgraded interior replaces the ivory and beige interior of the XUV300 model and follows the feedback from customers who opted for a darker interior for a greater feeling of luxury and greater practicality when travelling with children.
A second significant upgrade has been made to the XUV300 infotainment system. A new high-output system with a new 9” touch-sensitive infotainment system replaces the 7” infotainment system of old and all specification levels that are fitted with the touch screen (W4 SE, W6 and W8) offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.
Moving from the W4 SE to the W6 and you find more luxuries previously not available at this specification level.
This includes a rear window wiper and demister and a comprehensive satellite navigation system. Mahindra has also added cruise control to the W6 specification level as a standard feature.
Stepping up from the W6, the W8 delivers on all the luxuries expected from a flagship. This new model features, amongst other things, dual-zone climate control, a leather-clad steering wheel, a tyre pressure monitoring system and a sunroof.
This model also has a self-dimming rear-view mirror, automatic headlamps and window wipers and additional height adjustment for the driver.
“From its initial launch, the XUV300 was presented as a no-compromise compact SUV. Every important convenience feature is present on even the most basic model and the W8 specification level delivers more than could be expected from most vehicles in this price range,” says Rajesh.
“With the refreshed XUV300 we can now rightly claim to offer one of the most comprehensive vehicle packages in the compact SUV segment. Not only is the XUV300 a dynamic and rewarding drive, but it offers a level of comfort and luxury not common in this segment and, of course, it is South Africa’s safest vehicle.”

About The Upgraded Mahindra XUV300 Range In South Africa
Tumblr media
Mahindra has given its XUV300 compact SUV a makeover for the 2022 model year.
Unlike the outgoing model that made do with questionable ivory and beige interior, the new Mahindra XUV300 gets a much more conventional dark interior with a black dashboard design and black seat upholstery – something that's sure to appeal to a far wider audience. The flagship W8 model further benefits from more luxurious black leatherette upholstery.
To keep tech-savvy motorists happy Mahindra has also turned its attention to the vehicle's infotainment. As such, all models from the W4 SE upward now come fitted with a new nine-inch touchscreen system that syncs with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
XUV300 W4 SE and W6 model derivatives come equipped with extra luxuries including a rear window wiper and demister plus a comprehensive onboard satellite navigation system. The W6 takes things a step further thanks to the addition of cruise control.
Meanwhile, the range-topping W8 levels up with additional niceties such as dual-zone climate control, a leather steering wheel, a tyre pressure monitoring system and a sunroof. Customers can also look forward to a self-dimming rear-view mirror, a pair of automatic headlamps and window wipers plus additional seat-height adjustment for the driver.
On the exterior design front, the Mahindra team has penned a stylish new 16-inch multi-spoke and diamond-cut alloy wheel that will be bolted to all but the entry-level models. The W4 is fitted with steel wheels covered by stylish wheel covers while the W4 SE sports its own unique set of 16-inch alloy wheels resplendent with black and silver detailing.
The 2022 XUV300 engine line-up continues unchanged with customers being able to pick from either an 81kW/200Nm 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine or a more potent 85kW/300Nm 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel motor. The latter, however, is unfortunately not available in the entry-level W4 model. Both power trains are here paired to a six-speed manual transmission that delivers drive exclusively to the front wheels.
All models come standard with a five-year/150,000km warranty. W4 models get a three-year/50,000km service plan. W6 and W8 models get a five-year/90,000km service plan.

Mahindra XUV300 facelift spotted testing! Looks small!
Tumblr media
Let's talk straight away about the spy shots. At the front, Mahindra seems to be using temporary lights, but we could see a circular headlight on the facelift. Also, the car gets an upright grille and some sculpted features on the bonnet. As we move to the side profile, we can see the XUV300 DNA. Mahindra has hidden the alloy design. The tail lamps get a big protrusion, but this could be just for the testing car
Tumblr media
The interiors of the XUV300 facelift are yet to be spied. But Mahindra has a lot of work to do when it comes to the interior of the car. It will have to update the dashboard to make it feel modern. Maybe Mahindra should try a floating infotainment system to give the dashboard a better look. Other features that Mahindra could add include a digital instrument cluster, ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera, ambient lighting and a premium sound system
Tumblr media
The XUV300 is back in the news, with spy shots coming in every month. Earlier this year, it seemed like Mahindra had forgotten about the XUV300 facelift. But these new spy shots have given new hope to prospective buyers. When can we expect the launch? Mahindra could launch the XUV300 facelift by the end of this year or early next year.

What You Need To Know About Mahindra's Compact SUV
Why The Mahindra XUV300 Is The SUV You've Been Waiting For
Tumblr media
In SA collisions are almost a norm - drivers change lanes and only then indicate, while others fail to keep to a safe following distance, so one’s driving expertise is a secondary factor on South African roads.
To be safe, you need to be in a car that has passed the crash safety test with flying colours. So, when I got a confirmation that I will be putting the Mahindra XUV300, W8, petrol variation to the test, I quickly googled the car, and the first thing that stood out for me was this: its safety credentials remain unmatched in its class.
It is needless to say that nobody leaves their homes with the hope that they will get into a car accident. But getting to your destination without a scratch on the car or losing your cool with fellow motorists is an underplayed win.
Parting ways with just over R300,000 for my protection in a car is not too bad at all. This Mahindra was tested by the Global New Car Assessment Programme for both India and Africa, the XUV300 set a new benchmark for crash safety in its class in Africa, and it boasts a score of 16.42 out of 17 for adult protection, giving it five out of five stars.
And if you drive with your little one sitting comfortably at the back, the car received four out of five stars for child safety.
I am generally not a fan of compact SUVs. They tend to straddle the line of giving you little of everything, and not entirely anything at the same time. That is my general view on compact SUVs, irrespective of the brand. Most of them don’t have enough boot space, and they give you just enough legroom, but you wish the people in the backseat would have enough legroom too.
But South Africans love compact SUVs, and they continue to buy them. That market is one of the toughest and most saturated. The Mahindra XUV300 competes in a rapidly growing segment with rivals such as the Hyundai Venue, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Mazda CX30, Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Chery Tiggo Pro 4, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, Haval H1, to name just a few.
With the XUV300, I thought the interior could have had a more luxurious finish to it, and less of the plastic feel. But the feature of an updated nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system makes you smile again. The new system is Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, making it easy to just plug and play.
With fuel prices always going up and down, the XUV300’s fuel capacity is also equal to most hatchbacks, taking in 42 litres. I consistently got a consumption of 6.4l /100km, but this could be due to the traffic between Sandton and Centurion in the morning and afternoon.
I still don’t understand why this car has a six-gear transmission; the five gears are enough. But it’s a head-turner. When I shared a few pictures of the car on my WhatsApp status, friends and family couldn’t outright guess the brand of the car. They named the competitor brands and were surprised by the beautiful design by Mahindra.
The Mahindra XUV300 is a car that is reliable and has a beautifully distinguishable design. And you are guaranteed the highest level of safety, should the undesirable happen, especially if you are going to be on the road daily.
