Muslim residents in Cebu City observe special feast
#PHnews: Muslim residents in Cebu City observe special feast
CEBU CITY – Muslim officials and employees working at the Cebu City government were exempted from reporting for work on Thursday to give them time to celebrate the “Lailatul Isra Wal Miraj” or the Feast of the Prophet’s Ascension.
The celebration has been a legal holiday for Muslims in the country.
The lunar calendar places this year’s celebration on March 11.
Councilor Raymond Alvin Garcia authored a resolution that was passed by the City Council on Wednesday, declaring that the local lawmakers are “one with our Muslim officials and employees as they celebrate the pious observance” of the feast.
The resolution also conveyed to the city’s Human Resource Development Office the provisions of Presidential Decree (PD) 1083, the Code of Muslim Personal Laws of the Philippines, and the Civil Service Commission (CSC) resolutions 81-1277 and 02072.
In the resolution, Garcia explained that although Article 170 of PD 1083 identified the provinces, cities, and towns in Mindanao where the holiday takes effect, Article 172 said that “Muslim government officials and employees in places other than those enumerated shall be excused from reporting to office in order that they may be able to join the observance.”
The issuance from the CSC, he said, also stated that Muslims in government are free from work and are not to be marked absent during the holidays in observance of Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, Maulod-en-Nabi, Lailatul Isra Wal miraj, Mahurram, and Amon Jaded. (PNA)

Hazrath Ali Akbar
The most amazing thing about Karbala is that each person can relate to it. From babies to old men. mothers, fathers, brothers, wives, sisters. sisters.  The story that hits me the hardest is the story of Ali Akbar. The 18 year old son of Imam Hussain (a.s).  6 years ago I saw the story of Akbar, the pain of Imam Hussain reflected in my real life. I heard lamentations recited every night after the recitation of surah yaseen. 6 years ago I could feel less than a fraction of what happened in Karbala. 6 years ago is when my brother died at the age of 19. 6 years ago I understood what they meant when they said “Let no sadness affect you like the sadness of Hussain” Because the sadness of Hussain is like no other.  Ali Akbar was the last to fight before Imam Hussain on the day of Ashura. When it finally came down to him, he asked his father for permission, unable to answer himself he sent Akbar to his aunt, Zainab. Yet even with the permission of his family, each time Ali Akbar tried to leave the tent someone pulled him back. His aunt, mother, sister. they knew that  everyone who left didn’t come back. Even Imam Hussain couldn’t bear to see his son leave, he followed him out as far as he could. But can you imagine the pain to see your young son die before you, after seeing your nephews and brother and friends all go, can you imagine that feeling of being all alone. He hears the cry of his son “As salamualayka yaa aba abdillah” They say that the light from Hussain’s eyes fled and he could not see. He called out to his son to guide him towards him. And what did he see when he reached his son. A spear had pierced Akbar’s chest. What could a father do? He called out towards Najaf to where his own father was buried and called out “Ya Ali, give me the strength you had when you lifted the gates of khaybar” His last aid laid there in his lap. Now Hussain was alone. How can a father hold the body of his young son? He called out for help but there was none left except for the small children.  Every Muharram, the speaker will say something along the lines of, may no parent have to see their young son die.  In reality I feel like without Karbala, it would have been harder to overcome such a tragedy in my life. For me, for my parents, and for my family. We’ve had the blessings of understanding Karbala and learning about the AhlulBayt to guide us even through tragedy closer to Allah. Alhumdullilah
