thinking about Mitski’s continual use of the dog/pet dog/feral dog as a metaphor for loss of self, loyalty, and betrayal. and then also how she put actual howling sounds in her latest album……………..
my love is mine all mine. my love is mine all mine. my love is mine all mine my love is mine all mine my love is mine all mine my love is mine all mine my love is mine all mine my love is mine all mine. all mine all mine all mine
the thing about mitskis music being iabeled ‘sad girl’ is that its not sad. it evokes the sublime. that’s why people feel overwhelmed when they listen to it, but since people on tik tok don’t read theyve never heard of the sublime and assume any emotion besides happy or angry must be sad because they don’t have words to explain further
Had the amazing opportunity to listen to Mitski’s latest album, “The Land is Inhospitable and So Are We” at Rough Trade NYC earlier this week.
If you haven’t listened yet - Mitski’s latest album has all the aspects I treasure from her work plus new essences of instrument experimentation. You can sense that a lot of appreciation for art and curation went into the production of this album.
entering my "i love me after you" by mitski on repeat era (it is going to last like a day at the most but this song brings me peace so it will be enjoyable). i would share screenshots ofthe lyrics but you should really just go listen to it because its really fucking good.
