So I read Mostima's operator record

... and it sure gave me some feels. In good old Arknights fashion, it gives us surprisingly a lot of information and still tells us very little. Mostima and her past remains still foggy and mysterious, but we get a lot of insight into her character and her relationship with Exusiai.

1. Tbh, it's been a while since I've read Code of Brawl and when I find time, I want to reread it (for "research") but I'm somewhat sure that Exusiai hasn't been referred to as El or Lemuel before, Exu's real name (sometimes you forget, that Exusiai is just her operator name).

2. Lemuen, Exu's sister, seems to still be alive, at least Mostima referred to her in the present tense multiple times. Mostima watches Exusiai not because Lemuen would have wanted it, but because Lemuen wishes for it. I think it's safe to assume that Lemuen wasn't the one Mostima turned against, when becoming a fallen angel.

3. The record seems to somewhat hint toward a theory I heard about Sankta and Sarkaz being more or less the same race - just on different ends of a spectrum. Mostima showing Sarkaz traits (horns and tails) was a result of whatever-the-hell was going on in Kazdel. We don't know about the details, but before Kazdel Mostima didn't have these traits. Becoming "fallen" made her develop them.

4. The Laterano City Hall just loves to mess with its employees and give them dumb codenames. My personal headcanon is now, that Executor was called Columbia Fried Liberi before joining Rhodes Island.

5. Who the hell is Emperor?! We know he's immortal or at the very least very hard to kill, has some ties to the Siracusan Mafia (check out Texas' Epoque Skin Artwork), and apparently was involved in incidents in Kazdel too? Meanwhile he owns a music label, drops sick disstracks and runs the Lungmen's Crime UPS??? I could go on a rant about Arknight's immortals here, but, uh, back to topic...

6. There's something about Exu's and Mosti's relationship that's just so... sad. Mostima sees herself as nothing as Exusiai's guardian angel. She keeps an eye on her, from afar, but actively avoids to get close. Mosti knows she's a part of a past, that Exusiai should leave behind. I love the parellels to Texas here, both being people who have escaped a previous life and found new companions with Crime UPS, but a part of Exusiai still clings to her past. She's still attached to Mostima, while Mostima just wants Exusiai to forget her and move on. Mostima certainly knows how to deal with emotions and she acts detached from her own past, but I doubt that's all there is to it. In the end, Mostima wants Exusiai to move on not because she wants her to, but because she only wishes Exusiai to live her own, free life.

7. The whole narrative about the freedom, both Lemuen and Mostima wishing for Exusiai's freedom kind of ties back to Laterano as a whole. We still don't know the full picture, we don't know why Mostima chose to become "fallen", but Laterano is always framed as this very strict, disciplined and conservative place. It feels like the sort of place, where they would prefer to put their citizen's into cages to exert control over them, rather than let them experience freedom and or any kind of personal agency. If both Lemuen and Mostima have become enemies of Laterano, it makes sense for them to pursue freedom. And it also makes sense, that Mostima chooses long travel routes, because nothing is more abhorent to her than feeling trapped. In a sense, Exusiai "traps" Mostima as well, because she is a responsibility Mosti has to take care of. Only if Exusiai is truly free and has left her past behind, Mostima will be free as well.

Yeah, I... have a lot of thoughts about my two favorite angels. I still ship MostiExu a whole lot, but now mostly because of its very explicit tragedy. It's kind of interesting to imagine a scenario, where Exusiai, despite everything, gets sucked into Mostima's... situation and gets a chance to get closer to her, but pays with her own freedom and the friends she made with Penguin Logistics. It's a sad pairing, because there really doesn't seem to be a happy ending for them. But that's kind of what makes it appealing to me.
