Karaoke Night

Pairing: Nik Ryder x MC (Callie)

Rating: PG-13 (very brief mentions of sexual activity)

Summary: Callie and Katherine arrive back after Karaoke Night

Word Count: 1,245

(AN: this is my very first fanfic, ever, so if you have any suggestions or comments, please let me know! This is Nik POV, and pretty much just fluff. Thank you for reading :))

“Shhh!!!”

Nik sighed.

“Watch where you step! I don’t want Ni-” Her sentence broke off in a hiccup, and both girls giggled at the interruption. Nik just sighed heavier. “Don’t want Nik to know how drunk we got.”

Now, he rolled his eyes. He’d known exactly how drunk they were going to get, apparently before they did. Callie and Katherine had been going out to Karaoke Night at a tavern down the road every Thursday for weeks, and they always came back the same amount of drunk. Nik had given up trying to convince them to pace themselves, instead preferring the “I told you so” he got to use the next morning. He had also given up trying to chaperone the outings after Callie had tried to force him to dance on the table.

Plus, according to Callie, he “didn’t know how to let loose”. So, it was now up to Garrus and Krom to make sure they made it home in the wee hours of Friday mornings.

Nik prayed Katherine got a job soon, but was also dreading it; he couldn’t tell if Callie would force him to go with her instead. He knew he would go, he’d do almost anything she asked, but he wouldn’t be happy about it.

There was a stumble just outside the door, more tittering, and then the door slowly creeped open and a head of brown hair poked around. “All clear,” Callie whispered to Katherine as they started tiptoeing drunkenly inside. Obviously, she hadn’t looked too hard, as Nik was lounging on the worn and faded couch with a glass of whisky, watching them try to avoid him.

He bit back a chuckle as Callie made a beeline for the kitchen, still glancing around as if he was waiting in the shadows to catch her. Which he kind of was. Katherine stumbled along after her, breaking into a new round of inebriated giggling as she bumped into every wall along the way.

Nik tossed back the remainder of his drink, knowing he’d need it in order to corral the two women into sleeping, and started to slowly make his way towards the sounds of someone rummaging through the cupboards. Callie, if he had to guess.

He smothered a smile as he entered, seeing that his hunch was right; Callie, all five-feet-six-inches of her, was standing on the counter trying to reach for the chocolate chips she thought were hidden there. As if he’d keep them there again after the last Karaoke night…

Katherine broke out into a full laugh when he entered, and Nik just shook his head as he walked up behind Callie to get her off the countertop before she fell. As his hands gripped her waist and started pulling her down as if she were an errant toddler, she made a squawk of protest, trying to hold onto the cupboard door. “Hey! Nik! No! I want-,”

As he set her back on her feet, he interrupted her. “No, you know the rule: no chocolate for you until you’re sober. I am not waking up to a pillow full of melted chocolate again.” He made a slight grimace as he remembered waking up just after the sunrise, only to realize there was brown gunk dripping out of her pillowcase. He is not ashamed to admit he thought the worst until he smelled the sugary confection. He had tried to wash it, to no avail, and a new set of sheets were put on the bed by the time he came back from a vampire hunt that afternoon.

“Katherine, come on, the couch is all set up for you,” If someone had ever told Nik that one day, he would not only be putting a drunk Katherine to bed, but his also-drunk girlfriend, he probably would have died laughing. A few minutes and several of Nik’s curses later, he gently nudged her onto the couch, covering her with the afghan just as her breathing evened out.

He turned to Callie. “Your turn,” he said simply, grabbing her by the hand and towing her towards their room at the back of the apartment.

“But Nik,” she started to whine. Oh no. “I need chocolate. There’s ‘sno way I can sleep without it,” She was slurring slightly now, her tell that she was most definitely about to fall asleep. He gave it less than ten minutes before her slight snoring filled the room.

Knowing it was pointless to argue with her in this state, he just couldn’t help himself. “No, babe. You really don’t need it, and I really really don’t need you to have it. Now, come on, let’s get you ready for bed.” He opened the door to his-their-bedroom, still using her hand to pull her along so she didn’t try to make her way back to the kitchen. He’d learned his lesson about letting her walk on her own after the third Karaoke Night, when he spent fifteen minutes having to herd her out of every room in the apartment.

He dropped her hand as he approached the tall dresser, opening one of the drawers to pull out one of his tees. He left the shirt on the bed as he walked over to the petite girl, where she was swaying in place and singing a horribly out-of-tune melody. She dissolved into giggles as he stood in front of her, rolling his eyes at her antics. Nik reached around her to slowly drag the zipper of her dress down, taking one last moment to appreciate how the little blue dress hugged her body. Even in her intoxicated state, she was still the most beautiful thing he’d seen.

Her blue eyes were slightly glassy, but still mischievous. “Why, Nik, if you wanted me naked, all you had to do was ask,” she giggled as she put her arms around his neck. Nik decided not to dignify that with a response, just shaking his head good-naturedly as the dress pooled around her feet and he unclasped her bra to let that join the dress that had been teasing his mind since she had left hours earlier.

Turning to grab the shirt he’d left on the bed, he was unsurprised when he felt her press up against his back. She started slowly running her hands up and down his abdomen, and Nik fought against the stirring below his navel. “Arms up,” he commanded, and she laughed again as she raised her hands above her head. Thank God she was a giggly drunk, he’d met several people who were criers or, worse, angry drunks.

After Nik slipped the shirt over her head and guided her to her side of the bed, he tucked her in and moved to his side, where he stripped down to his boxers and climbed in beside her. He wrapped a strong arm around her small waist, pulling her back to his front as he buried his face in her hair. He would never admit it out loud, but cuddling with Callie was what he most looked forward to everyday, as he never felt as calm as he did when he was wrapped around her, feeling her body move with every breath.

“Night, Nik…”she whispered as he felt her breathing become rhythmic and deep. He smiled as he closed his eyes and ran a hand down her side to rest on her hip.

“Night, babe,” he whispered into her hair and slipped into his dreams easily.
