Aaron Roberts
Prologue It’s 2:45 pm sighed Aaron, there was a staff meeting for everyone in the Ballroom at 4pm. The rumors were swinging like a pendulum: we were being sold; we were having mass layoffs, we are closing our doors, and it went on and on. As Aaron, looked out of his office window, which overlooked one of the most beautiful beaches in the world ( don’t take his word, it is ranked in the top five of every Tourist/Travel magazine), he took a short walk down memory lane. He has been with The Kingdom, for the last 10 years, and he has no regrets. By the time he was 22, he had a bachelor’s in Accounting, A Master in Accounting, and a MBA. He had also sat the CPA exams and pass all sections on his first attempt. He worked at, CPDG, one of the largest accounting firms in the world, for 3 years, and he hated every minute of it. His salvation came, when his frat brother, told him about The Kingdom, the name alone piqued his interest. And 10 years later at 35, I was the youngest CFO at a major hotel resort. Yeah!!
The chime of his alarm, brought him back to reality, it’s 3:40. Time to make his way to the Ballroom. It will only take 10 minutes, but Aaron was a stickler for time. 'Good afternoon, every one, thank you for coming, said Mr Keith O’brien, (General Manager). First let me address the rumors, there will be no layoffs and we  are not selling the hotel. I will retire at the end of the month. I will stay on for an additional 2 months so that there will be a smooth transition. So without further delay, the next General Manager of The Kingdom is Mr. Aaron Roberts. What the #$&%?
Chapter 1 It’s has been 3 months now, since that incredulous announcement was made. I didn’t expect it. To be honest that promotion was the last thing on my mind. I think I ambitious as the next person. But to be appointed as General  Manager/CFO is a feat. Yes I retain my position as Chief Financial Officer as well. The Kingdom is a 700 room 5 star hotel, on an island in The Bahamas. With a staff compliment of 2000. We all live on the island. We are the sole employer as well. So my responsibility, is not limited only to the hotel, but the entire island. From the airport, staff quarters, beaches, etc. Not bad for that skinny, shy altar boy Yeah!! My family were so elated, when they heard the news, I think my mom is still crying, and my priest Father John Cooper, (who was also my math teacher in high school) and the entire parish family is still sending congratulations. Am I proud of myself? I think I am thankful and grateful to God. I remembered as a child in CCD, Sister Marva, constantly said, all good and perfect gifts comes from heaven above. Am I overwhelmed? No, I have a great team. We have nearly 100 % occupancy year round. But there is a feeling I can’t put my finger on I Am Lost!!! Chapter 2 I am the way, the truth and life, no one comes to the Father except through me. What does that mean, wondered Aaron. He keeps hearing it in his heart, whether awake or sleeping, those words are there. On top of that he felt lost. I don’t lost is the right word. I have a good job, a great family, am in excellent health, am single (I see it as a plus, so I can focus on my career). What more is there? I was about to find out. A few weeks later, during an executive meeting, the Director of Sales,  Shelby Robinson, said “that we have a group, that wants to book our entire hotel all 700 and meeting rooms for one week”.  Wow, everyone exclaimed, awesome. We’ve had groups before, but never on the scale. It was a religious group. It was a Pastor of a mega church in New York, a membership of 50,000 . It is considered an evangelical non-denominational Christian Church. I don’t know what that means. I was born and raised Catholic. My parents are Catholic, I was an altar boy, from the age of 8 – 18. I attended only Catholic schools and universities. We are the true Christian Church. Yeah!! Chapter 3 The hotel is a frenzy, in good way. After months of negotiating, the day of the big arrival had come. The negotiating had been relentless, they had so many demands. We’re used to that. But they had some non-negotiable items. No alcohol, no secular music, limit Internet access (block all ungodly sights). The list was exhausting!! After calculations, the revenue which was in the millions it was worth it. We will be in the black for years. Every meeting space and restaurant will be utilized. This was considered a conference for men. There were bishops, deacons, men's ministry and lay members. We had a total of 5,000 men descending on The Kingdom, it felt like another Kingdom was invading The Kingdom! On my career side my life was awesome, we were able to negotiate a deal of a life time. However, in my personal life. It was the tale of two cities. Some days I am overwhelmed by this emptiness, that I am feeling, that I can’t sleep or eat! Thank God, I have been able to conceal it with work, nobody seems to be the wiser. I have taken praying the Rosary even more. ( My mother will considered that a dream come true). What is “ I am the way the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father, except through me.” Lord, I cried out “ if you are real, what does this mean.” Help me please!! Mr. Roberts, they are here! Chapter 4 It is not a custom for the General Manager to meet hotel guests, but this was an exception and necessary. Arriving first Apostle Dylan Freeman, he was the Senior Pastor of Greater Cathedral of Brooklyn, New York. He looked like any ordinary man, I think because he had such a large congregation, that he would look ‘holy’. That’s just the Catholic  in me talking.  I have never meet a modern day Apostle before. The ones that I knew of , were Jesus disciples in the bible. “It is a pleasure to welcome you Apostle Freeman, to The Kingdom,” said Aaron. “I have come to The Kingdom, for such a time as this,” replied Apostle Freeman. His entourage laughed heartly . I didn’t get it, maybe it was Christian lingo or some inside joke. I escorted him to his suite which is on the 69th Floor. The Kingdom has 70 floors. The 70th Floor is our major Ballroom, which is called  ‘The Great Hall.’  This is where there will be a welcome cocktail reception. ( Minus the cocktails) at 7pm. I hate  cocktail receptions, but duty calls. It’s 6:30 pm. Most of the guests are here, taking in the breath taking view of the island. The Great Hall, has a panaramic view of the entire island. So, there were a lot of selfies. Apostle Freeman, arrived precisely at 7pm. My goal was to make light chit chat, then make my escape. Finally, he was alone, I eventually got to him, before I had a chance to say a word, he said “ I have a word for you.” “ You want a word with me? “ I asked. He looked at me, and just starting laughing. What was so funny I thought. He must have read my mind. Because he stopped abruptly. ‘ Forgive me, we pastor's believe everyone understands what we are saying, he said apologetically. “ I have a word for you, from the Lord,” he said somberly. I felt like I just got suckered punch, my insides felt like jelly. I didn’t know to say. I thought I was speechless for hours. But he graciously said to me, “ Don’t worry, everything you have been experiencing these last several months, will be made clear to you. And just like that he was throng again, by the other guests. For the next several days, I was eager to have an audience with the Apostle, but with his schedule,  I know that was impossible. It was the last day, I knew that it will be hectic, so my daily morning jog on the beach was imperative. As I was about to begin, Apostle Freeman suddenly appeared. “I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the father, except through me”, he said to me. “ Do you know what that means? I just shake my head weakly, saying no. Thus says the Lord, this emptiness you are feeling, it is your soul yearning for the one true God. And you can only have that with Jesus as your Savior. “Do you want to make Jesus Christ you personal Savior?” asked Apostle “Yes, “ I was openly crying now. Repeat after me: Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I confess You as my personal  Lord and Savior. In Jesus name I pray Amen. As I prayed those word, the Peace of God flooded my soul, and the emptiness vanished. Thank you Jesus. As I looked on that beautiful water, I knew what I wanted more than anything. “Will you baptize me, Apostle”, I asked. As Apostle Freeman, baptize me in the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I knew that I was truly alive and Jesus had given me a new life. Later that morning, while I was escorting Apostle to his car. He said this, “ I have two things to things to say to you. “ Jesus loves you and see you next year. Yeah!! THE END

TGIWednesday and a download for making it through life's storms
TGIWednesday News
Well I’ve been praying/fishing for over a week to move Hurricane Dorian out to sea and while the Bahamas sadly took a tragic hit, we now know that the worst of it is continuing to stay off the Florida east coast as it moves north. We are continuing to pray for Dorian to have the least amount of damage and loss of life... that's the goal.  But I want to urge you all to Keep the Faith during this weather event or any other kind of "storm" that arises in your life. There will still always be challenges and with these kinds of “life storms” but know that "this too shall pass” as my sweet mom Granny Ruth always says. When you see it coming, statements are of little help.  When you’re moving through a life storm, you are nearly numb on listening to the advice of others.  Once you’re through it however, you can look back and realize on some level it was necessary and maybe it took you out of a greater harms way or was an unanswered prayer that actually allowed your life to turn out even better than hoped for.  Keep the faith! Ok, so... voice back? Check. moving forward with grace and ease? Check. And just in time for tonight's "Turning On Your Youth and Vitality Switch" bonus call happening at 8pm EDT on Zoom conference.  This is a private call for those who have previously purchased the Fountain of Youth MP3. If that's you, then you have received 2 reminder emails and had 2 chances to register and claim your spot on the live call.  Know that the recording will go out to ALL mp3 buyers - regardless of whether you registered to attend LIVE. Now...the good news for the rest of you is that we now know we're able to open up a VERY LIMITED NUMBER of spots for others to join in on this Bonus Clearings call for ONLY $22.    We asked for folks to submit related topics for the clearings call and this is some of what will be covered: hair loss, thinning hair, thicker hair, gray hair, hair patchiness, skin moles, itchy skin, low immunity, sluggishness, fatigue, menopausal weight gain, excess weight, slow metabolism, fatty liver, bone and muscle strengthening, indigestion, digestive irregularity, inflammation, poor sleep. To claim a spot on the call, click this link and it will take you to Calendly where you can select the Sept 4th date and confirm if there's still an open spot. There you will pay $22 via PayPal to receive the direct Zoom call link, confirmation email and reminders & replay.

~  MAKING IT THROUGH LIFE'S STORMS  ~
I believe, think, know and feel that I am capable and well equipped to make it through a life storm. I know, when, where, how and why to go with the flow and to bend like the willow knowing that this too shall pass. I am ready, willing and able to endure any of life’s storms and I know that I will co-create with spirit and that I will prevail. I am asking this in all languages and throughout all time lines and so it is.
From the Fish Box
Q&A WITH JIMMY... Q)  "I have a question about the session with you for my dog Angel on Saturday. 1. Because this session is for my dog, will I have to act as a surrogate or will I just be on the phone and you work on her as I answer questions, etc.? 2. Will she need to be in the same room with me? 3. I ask the first question because I had previously scheduled some energy work with another healer on myself the day before on Friday. If I will be a surrogate, I just didn't want to overload my system with energetic work and wondered if I should reschedule Angel's appointment, if that's possible. I have muscle tested and get that I'll be OK but wanted to ask you. I tend to take on my daughter, husband and dog's stuff, if you know what I mean." - F. D.  A) "The dog does not have to be in the room. Yes, absolutely, we are going through you to stand and test as surrogate for the dog. I don't care what any other healers have done or will be doing, my stuff is different. It's not like eating a steak and then not swimming for 30 minutes - it has nothing to do with that lol." - Jimmy

Police: Md. Human Traffickers Released On Bond Despite Immigration, Public Safety Concerns WJLA ^
ROCKVILLE, Md. (ABC7) —
Three weeks after Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan declared war on human trafficking, two men accused of taking part in the illegal sex trade, were released from jail despite immigration, flight risk and public safety concerns.
The case highlights the frustrations shared by multiple law enforcement sources working to eradicate pimps and madams, but finding themselves at the mercy of the judicial system that can have a more lenient worldview. The Brothel Along Garland Avenue:
In August 2018, the Montgomery County Police Department’s gang unit conducted an undercover sting at an apartment building along Garland Avenue in Silver Spring, near Rolling Terrace Elementary School. The officers witnessed various men come and go from the building.
Police stopped a number of suspected “johns” as they left the area. All admitted to paying for sex with an unknown woman inside. One man confessed to shelling out $30 for a 20-minute appointment. Another man explained he knocked on the apartment door, was let in by a short, heavyset man, paid that individual $35 and was then allowed into the bedroom.
The following day, police entered the first-floor apartment with a search warrant. Inside they found a man, woman, condoms, lubricants, wipes, lingerie, ledgers, $1,000 in cash and a small bag of cocaine.
The 39-year-old woman — who ABC7 is not identifying — told investigators that she had traveled from New York City to Silver Spring to work as a prostitute. She further claimed to have provided sexual services to 63 clients in less than three days.
In a separate interview room, Roberto Diaz-Mejia, 38, explained he had been living in the apartment for approximately two months.
“Diaz-Mejia is not on the lease, but is living there as part of an arrangement where he collects the money from clients when they come to have sexual intercourse with prostitutes,” police wrote in court documents obtained by ABC7. “He also cooks and provides security for the prostitutes as necessary.”
Diaz-Mejia freely stated that a man by the name of Herlan Javie Rosales-Velasquez, 34, would come to the apartment every two days to collect money. Rosales-Velasquez reportedly paid Diaz-Mejia around $260 a week for his various household services.
“Rosales-Velasquez brings in news girls and takes out the old girls,” police further noted in the same criminal affidavit. Unjust Clemency By The Court?
In court a few days later, the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office told District Court Judge Karen Ferretti it had a list of concerns about Diaz-Mejia’s being released from jail on any sort of bond.
“There’s no form of employment aside from the illegal form of employment described in the charging document,” the prosecutor opined. “And I do have concerns about potential for flight risk and danger to the community.”
In its rebuttal, the public defender’s office explained Diaz-Mejia is a native of the Dominican Republic, moved to the U.S. in 1996 and currently holds a resident card. It went on to explain Diaz-Mejia has an eighth-grade education and recently suffered a “serious accident” that impacted his employability.
After listening to both sides, Judge Ferretti granted Diaz-Mejia a $10,000 unsecured personal bond, which allowed the 38-year-old to walk out of jail without putting down any money. Ferretti declined comment for this story, citing Maryland judiciary policies.
In a separate court proceeding, the state’s attorney’s office told Montgomery County District Court Commissioner A. Onwuzuruike, it did not think it was appropriate to grant Rosales-Velasquez an affordable bond.
“Mr. Rosales-Velasquez is a danger to the safety and welfare of the woman he is alleged to have been exploiting, as well as a danger to the community,” the prosecutor argued. “Furthermore he is facing up to 30 years of incarceration, and up to $20,000 in fines if convicted. So the state thinks that presents an incentive for flight.”
Yet, Commissioner Onwuzuruike stated that because Rosales-Velasquez was gainfully employed and had no apparent criminal record, she was willing to grant the undocumented immigrant on a bond that required he post $800 for release. He was out of jail hours later.
The court system, however, neglected to confirm Rosales-Velasquez’s home address prior to his discharge from jail. The Hyattsville address listed in court documents was invalid.
“Oh my God,” said Karen Ayala-Ventura after ABC7 knocked on her front door. “We rented the basement to Herlan, but he moved out more than a year ago.”
Ayala-Ventura explained she and her husband had no indication that Rosales-Velasquez was dabbling in nefarious circles. In fact, the alleged human trafficker had invited the couple to his daughter’s birthday party a few years ago.
“What if he doesn’t show up for court? Will the police kick down my door looking for him?” Ayala-Ventura asked while showing ABC7 her empty basement in effort to prove her account.
After Commissioner Onwuzuruike’s set a nominal, $800 bond, ICE agents scrambled to detain Rosales-Velasquez for fear he might flee. According to ICE, the 34-year-old entered the U.S. in April 2005 without proper documentation. An immigration judge later ordered Rosales-Velasquez’s deportation, but ICE says for some reason that never happened.
Like Judge Ferretti, Commissioner Onwuzuruike declined to comment for this story, citing Maryland judiciary policies. A Clash of Governing Worldviews?
This sequence of events transpired in the immediate wake of Gov. Larry Hogan declaring war on human trafficking in Maryland. The governor made that avowal during an August 9, press conference attended by local law enforcement and political leaders, including then Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett.
“For four years we have been working to combat the criminal gang enterprises that are terrorizing our communities,” a tearful Hogan stated before a crowd of around 100 people at Montgomery County’s Department of Health and Human Services building in Rockville.
Hogan took the opportunity to reveal a new statewide initiative aimed at cracking down on human trafficking. The list of improvements included $9 million in funding to strengthen victim services and police efforts, a $500,000 grant to create a human trafficking research center at the University of Maryland, plus re-introducing legislation in Annapolis that would classify felony human trafficking as a “violent crime.”
“These vulnerable young victims are being coerced and threatened. They’re exploited and enslaved and then they’re often repeatedly sexually assaulted and raped,” Hogan shared. “As a father, I’m heartbroken for these daughters and sons who are being victimized and brutalized.”
ABC7 contacted the governor’s office three times asking for its opinion on how the court system has handled Diaz-Mejia and Rosales-Velasquez’s cases, but did not receive a reply. Human Trafficking On The World Stage:
“This is what’s manifesting in all 50 states across the country,” said Bradley Myles, CEO of the Polaris Project, a D.C. based non-profit formed to prevent human trafficking worldwide. “It’s happening at a gigantic scale.”
According to Myles, 25 million people are victims of human trafficking worldwide. Two-thirds of those individuals are trapped in labor trafficking (i.e. agriculture, construction, fishing, carnivals). The other one-third consists of the sex trade, the majority of those victims being women and girls.
With the advent of technology, street prostitution has “precipitously declined” over time.
“The fact is most of the sex trade has moved online for the efficiency gains where you can attract thousands of customers who are anonymous, and you don’t have police cars driving around,” Myles shared.
Truck stop prostitution, however, is still rampant in certain parts of the county. In those circles, pimps advertise women on CB radios or order girls to knock on windows of parked tractor-trailers.
Although there are numerous sub-categories of prostitution, Myles explained there are three primary types of sex trafficking in the U.S.
1.) U.S. citizens pimp out females by posting ads online, and then directing “johns” to a local hotel room where the woman is waiting. These pimps typically assign women with a daily monetary quota. In other words, the number of clients does not necessarily matter so long as the women hit their preset number.
2.) Women from Asian nations like China, Korea and Thailand are brought to the U.S. and placed in massage parlors. The women work 10 to 12 hours a day, usually providing services to a different customer each hour. These woman are often kept in “debt bondage” by way of threats, manipulation and deception.
3.) Latino gangs bring women from Central American nations like El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico, and place them in bars, houses and apartments. The women are priced not in hour-long increments, but rather by the quarter hour.
“So usually those types of brothels have guys pay $30 per 15 minutes of sexual intercourse,” Myles remarked. “Those women work a 12-hour day — from 10am to 10pm — and usually have to be with 30 to 40 guys in a day. It’s the highest volume anywhere in the commercial sex trade.”
And that’s precisely why law enforcement sources tell ABC7 that Montgomery County District Court Judge Ferretti and Commissioner Onwuzuruike missed the mark by granting bond to Diaz-Mejia and Rosales-Velasquez. Both men are scheduled for trial in late March, and face up 41 and 31 years in prison respectively. The Polaris Project’s Roots:
Two students at Brown University formed the Polaris Project in 2002 after learning about a human trafficking case near their Ivy League campus in Providence, Rhode Island. The group later moved to D.C., and now has 110 employees. It also runs the National Human Trafficking Hotline for the U.S., which is manned 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
“The hotline is really a lifeline for victims because increasingly victims are calling from within the trafficking situation. They’re hiding in a hotel room or they are hiding in a house. They’ll call or send a silent text message while their trafficker is still there.”
The hotline accepted its first phone call in 2007. It now averages 100,000 calls per year. Operators have more than 3,000 non-profits and 1,000 law enforcement agencies listed in their digital Rolodex. That helps pair callers with assistance including, but not limited to safe housing, job placement, attorneys, churches and hospitals.

Master Your Taxes in 10 Easy Steps
So you’re self-employed. Good for you! You’re officially in charge of your own destiny. But if you’re self-employed in the U.S., Uncle Sam gets his share.
Most fitness pros know this. (Those who don’t are in for a very rude awakening when their tax bill comes due this spring.) But what you may not realize is just how much you can save by taking advantage of strategic tax deductions. By deducting all those you’re entitled to, you reduce your taxable income, potentially saving you a lot of money.
I know all this can seem overwhelming at first. I’ve had multiple entrepreneurs tell me they can’t understand a word their accountants say. It’s like their CPA speaks another language. (I call it “accountantese.”)
That’s where I come in. My job is to demystify money for entrepreneurs, breaking down complex financial goals into simple steps. The idea isn’t to replace your accountant—and yes, you do need one!—but to empower you with the baseline knowledge to feel more confident and prepared for your next appointment.
It’s about more than simply knowing what you can and can’t deduct—although that’s a big and important part of it. It’s about instituting the systems and resources that help you maximize profit while minimizing stress.
These 10 steps will put you on the right path.

1. Make friends with your accountant
I’ll be honest: If you struggle to understand your accountant, the problem might be you. It’s important to make an effort. You don’t have to pick out curtains or anything, but you do need to spend some time together.
Chat, build a rapport, and ask questions. No good? Then find someone else. The U.S. tax code is complicated and always changing. You need a professional to guide you, one you can talk to and trust.
2. Open a separate account for business expenses
A lot of newbies use their personal checking account and credit card for business expenses, and it can be a mess to sort out.

You need to treat personal and business money like church and state. It’s easier to track expenses, and you’re less likely to overlook deductions. Plus, it’s much easier to see at a glance how much you’re spending. That’s vital for trainers who’re too busy taking care of clients to stop and look at the numbers.
You don’t need a “business account” per se, especially if you’re not incorporated yet. A dedicated checking account or credit card works just fine (although you should check with your accountant first).
3. Expense the basics
Basics are your business necessities, and the more obvious write-offs. They include all your operational costs—fitness equipment, insurance, supplies, marketing, professional memberships and publications, and any business license you need—along with accounting and legal fees.
You can also write off the costs of using your work space—rent, utilities, Internet. Use a car for business? You can write off a portion of your mileage, and perhaps even your lease. I put cellphones and computers in this category too. If you use it for business, you need to deduct it.
4. Don’t forget the discretionary stuff
Things get interesting when it comes to discretionary spending, a category that includes travel, education, events, business meals, and client gifts. (Notably, the cost of entertaining clients is no longer deductible in the U.S., though client meals still are.)
Unlike basic expenses, like keeping the lights on and your equipment in working order, there’s a less direct line from these costs to your business’s bottom line. But that doesn’t mean they’re too risky to deduct. It just means you have to document why you spent that money. Taking a client to dinner, for example, helps you build a relationship and improve retention. Attending a fitness conference helps you stay connected and informed, and usually offers CEUs to retain your certifications.
Ask yourself if the expenditure will help your business grow. If the answer is yes, expense it.
5. But don’t go crazy
It’s smart to deduct the things you need to run your business. But it’s foolish to take on new expenses just because they’re deductible. The fact you can expense fancy dinners with clients doesn’t mean that’s a good way to spend your hard-earned money. At least half those costs are still coming out of your own pocket. Tax deductible doesn’t mean free.
6. Embrace development and education
Anything that makes you more knowledgeable in your field is deductible: books, magazines, memberships, courses, certifications, seminars, conferences. I know one entrepreneur who was able to deduct the $50,000 cost of attending a huge industry event.
The key: It must be related to your field. Did you join the Online Trainer Academy? Subscribe to Fitness Marketing Monthly? Buy one of Jonathan Goodman’s books? All are 100 percent deductible. But a subscription to Architectural Digest? Probably not.

7. When in doubt, expense it
I’ve seen entrepreneurs and CEOs deduct the cost of therapists and life coaches, which they justify as the price they pay to stay mentally healthy.
To justify an expense, you need to show how it can help grow your business, and you want to expense everything you have a good case for. It’s easy enough to move these “gray area” expenses over to the personal side if your accountant says no.
8. Ask questions
Think of your accountant the way your clients think of you. If they’re confused about something that’s important for their success on your program, wouldn’t you rather have them ask you? You can’t be afraid to ask questions that affect your financial fitness.
So if your accountant says no to a deduction, this is how you follow up: “What needs to happen for this to be a legitimate business expense?” I know one company owner who was able to expense clothing by making a simple tweak to the structure of the organization.
You may be able to do that, but you won’t know if you don’t ask.
9. Get organized
I work with highly successful entrepreneurs. In my experience, they know a lot about tax deductions, but they’re completely lost in terms of organization. Their records are a mess. They don’t use accounting software. They know next to nothing about the financials of their own business.
No matter how good you are at training your clients, if your financial records are in shambles, you’re only inviting stress.
Anyone making $30,000 a year or more should invest in accounting software like QuickBooks, or at least track revenue and expenses on spreadsheet. I also recommend hiring a bookkeeper, even for just a couple of hours a month. Ninety percent of the time, entrepreneurs should not be doing their own bookkeeping.

10. Save your receipts
Let me say that again: Save your receipts. All of them. I’m old school and keep mine in bank boxes, but a lot of people digitally store theirs using software like Hubdoc or Receipt Bank.
And here’s your pro tip: Jot down any details regarding the expense right on the receipt. If it’s a meal receipt, write down the client you were dining with and the purpose of the meeting. If it’s a travel receipt, same deal.
More documentation is always better. It helps at tax time and makes any audit a thousand times easier. I know one entrepreneur who was recently audited and asked to present 30 receipts. Thanks to a solid organizational system, compliance was easy and painless. Done and done.
Organizational systems are key, and the lack of them is the number-one thing that holds entrepreneurs back. Figure out the right ones for you, and you’ll not only save money and reduce stress at tax time, you’ll find yourself with a business that runs better all around.
Your Next Move: Invest in Your Fitness Marketing (It’s a Tax-Deductible Expense!)
Keep more of what you make by improving your financial literacy and taking advantage of the many tax deductions available to fitness professionals. That’s just one of the many strategies and lessons we teach in Fitness Marketing Monthly (FMM), your monthly guide to a more prosperous career.
FMM is the only marketing information that you’ll need, conveniently delivered to your door in print once a month. Specifically, it’ll show you how to:

Hi!  Between being busy as heck and not being able to access the Internet on my computer for a while, it’s been a while since I’ve really had a presence on here.  But my computer is back, and therefore so am I!  (Hopefully.  Let’s be real, I’m still busy.)
Anyway, for my Grand Return to Tumblr, I want to do that one year-in-review ask meme that was really popular back in the day that I’ve done every year since 2014.  (Who doesn’t love consistency?)
So read on to hear more about my 2018!
First of all, apologies for how long these responses are going to get.  I do my best to be concise, but it was hard this year.  I won’t be mad if you skip to the tl;dr.
1. What did you do in 2018 that you had never done before? This has been yet another tumultuous year, so let’s see -- I started regularly watching Drag Race (I spent 2017 watching YouTube clips), won some prizes in college journalism contests for a podcast I did, visited my hometown Missouri gay bar for the first time, met/saw a bunch of Drag Race queens (Jujubee in February, Miz Cracker in June, Detox and Max in October, Bob the Drag Queen in November), cried in a therapist’s office, had one of my films screen at several film festivals (and got to attend two of them), attended an Ash Wednesday church service, got confirmed in the Lutheran church (no big deal), won several prizes for leadership at my college, GRADUATED COLLEGE *cue airhorns*, was featured on not one but two podcasts/radio shows talking about songs that mean a lot to me, visited Prince’s house, held an Emmy (while visiting a public television station), prepared a three-course meal for me and my family, moved to Minneapolis with five housemates, started a real Adult Person job, put up with a lot of harassment at said Adult Person Job, learned to cross stitch, learned to bake, discovered Ethiopian food, attended a podcast taping (for The Hilarious World of Depression), was diagnosed with autism (surprise! now’s as good a time as any to tell everyone I guess), was interviewed by a Relatively Major News Outlet (by Bob the Drag Queen!  I will never be over it!), and began preparing to change my name legally (!!!).  So it’s been a pretty huge year -- Aquifer Pod would probably collectively roll their eyes at how many of these milestones involve drag and drag queens but I’m not mad.
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I looked it up, and my resolutions for 2018 were to “get through graduation, and to find something to do this summer that will enable me to eat/pay rent for an apartment and focus on my mental health.“  I definitely made it through graduation!  In fact, the period of March-May 2018 was one of the happiest, most mental-illness-free periods of my college career.  It was so weird to walk around campus and like, not be depressed.  As for the second part of that, I kinda failed -- I ended up moving in with my parents for the summer until my service year began and I moved to Minneapolis.  So that kind of crushed my previously-established good mood, but it’s fine. As for this year, I want to sleep on a more regular sleep schedule.  Also, now that I know I’m autistic I want to participate in therapies and such that actually help me more than previous interventions.  (Like I loved parts of DBT, but the assumption that I had borderline was just -- not helpful.)  Particularly, I want to get my executive functioning issues in check because I cannot continue to be the disorganized, messy, emotionally reactive fuck that I am.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth? A lot of people got pregnant but nobody gave birth, so get ready for this to be a hopping question in 2019.
4. Did anyone close to you die? Nope!  It’s been another relatively death-free year.
5. What countries did you visit? Only the one.  (I don’t know if I mentioned this, but I almost studied abroad in Ghana in January, but my therapists ended up not clearing me to go, so...)
6. What would you like to have in 2019 that you lacked in 2018? Personal acceptance of my own neurodiversity, accepting family members, and as always less intrusive/depressive/suicidal thoughts.
7. What dates from 2018 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? Let’s start with the negative (self-harm CW -- skip to the next paragraph if you need to) -- on February 3, I had a self-harm incident that was so bad I had to go to an emergency room, and I had to be extremely persuasive in order to convince the doctor not to admit me.  A lot of this year has been trying to not replay That in my mind when I close my eyes, anxiety that I’ll do it again, and trying to convince my parents and myself that I’m OK now. Luckily, it gets better from there!  March 10-13 -- I traveled throughout the state of Minnesota with an improvised traveling Greek play!  It was great.  April 8 -- my confirmation date.  March 17 -- I got to attend a film festival in the Cities and see a documentary I made on the big screen.  April 11 -- I was surprised to win the Distinguished Senior Leader Award at my school, so surprised in fact that I did not wear formal clothes to the Very Formal event (I wore a shirt depicting the Babadook waving a rainbow flag and baggy Cabela’s jeans lmao).  April 27 -- my last Drag Ball, and my first time attending an event in full drag (an acquaintance who is now a professional queen did my makeup).  May 5 -- my third birthday, and the day Small Joseph and I hosted an elaborate gender reveal party for myself.  May 25 -- the day Athena asked me to be in her wedding!  May 28 -- the day I graduated.  June 17 -- my first ever Pride event, and the day I met Miz Cracker.  August 11 -- the first day of orientation to my service program.  August 15 -- the day I moved to Minneapolis.  September 21 -- the night my housemates and I hosted an over-the-top 70s-themed 21st Night of September party.  October 20 -- my birthday celebrations, which were full of a Rocky Horror Drag Ball (where I saw Detox and Max), a hike around a waterfall, a surprise apple pie from my housemates, and a Florence and the Machine concert.  November 3 -- the day I voted early, met Bob the Drag Queen, she interviewed me for like half an hour, and she told me I was amazing (I’m still not over it).  October 27 -- a really powerful trans visibility rally that I attended with my housemate.  November 8 -- Jake Shears concert.  November 9 -- the day of my autism diagnosis.   Honestly, this is just a sliver of the important dates in my life this year.  It’s been a wild time.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? So if you were able to read the blocks of text above, you probably saw that it’s been a HUGE year in terms of typical successes.  I graduated, for one, with my real name on my diploma.  There’s also Distinguished Senior Leader (which is kind of big, my name is on a plaque in the student commons now), getting confirmed, the film festival acceptances, moving to Minneapolis and diving into my service year, the Bob the Drag Queen thing, the journalism prizes, a Greek translation award, an award the Classics department gives one senior a year for being a good person.  Honestly?  I’ve done really well. But there are other things I don’t tell people that I’m proud of.  I’m surprised I was able to go back to school and complete my final semester, first of all -- I really thought I’d have to drop out after the self-harm incident in February.  But I’m also proud of all the times I’ve stood up for myself (or tried, anyway), all the relationships I’ve developed, and all the ways I’ve pushed myself spiritually, intellectually, et cetera.  I get down on myself for not being spiritual enough, friendly enough, smart enough, whatever.  But I’ve done my best, and I think it’s paying off. I also want to mention that the autism diagnosis was huge.  I’ve suspected I’ve had it since early in my college years, and I’m so relieved that I was able to get a fancy piece of paper telling me I was right -- and that now I can adapt my surroundings and myself accordingly.
9. What was your biggest failure? I’m really tempted to call the self-harm thing a failure, and all the subsequent times I relapsed after that. Same with my failed attempts at quitting drinking alcohol.  But I’m trying to give myself grace with these things.  It’s hard, and I’m improving.  #newmantra In the early part of the year, especially, I was a little emotionally volatile in terms of relationships and lashed out at several people, and I deeply regret that.  I have also done a shit job of maintaining therapy and psychiatry for myself post-graduation, which I have got to rectify in 2019.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury? *refers you to the self-harm thing*  I also had a lot of sinus and ear infections for some reason, and I’ve gotten a lot more colds than usual this fall/winter.  (I choose to blame living with six new people.)  Plus my uterus has been out to murder me the last half of the year.  At one point I had cramps that hurt so bad that I went to the ER just in case it was my appendix bursting.  (Shout-out to Emma for taking me and staying with me the whole time!)
11. What was the best thing you bought? I’d mostly say tickets to things.  The Hilarious World of Depression screening, Jake Shears, the Rocky Horror drag ball, all the drag shows I saw in my home bar, the early voting drag brunch where I met Bob the Drag Queen, baseball game tickets with a housemate -- these were all fantastic experiences that I will cherish forever.  On the tangential objects side of things, though, probably the costume I wore to the 21st Night of September (a rainbow sparkly dress, round pink sunglasses, black fishnets) and a bunch of awesome Goodwill sweaters and dress shirts.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration? (more self-harm CW)  In the aftermath of the self-harm incident, I had to seriously rely on my college friends -- like, I always do in dark times, but they were really there for me in the months following that.  Athena came with me when I had a follow-up doctor’s appointment, Carleigh helped me take care of the wound for a couple months, Kit put up with me constantly getting up in the night because I was stuck in a dark place and also informed the pod that I was coming back to school in a Not Great State, Small Joseph was there for me too -- I really am so lucky. In addition, Ella, Spencer, and everyone else who ever drove me to therapy a half-hour away in the first half of the year.  My housemates for welcoming a neurotic, autistic, anal-retentive fuck into their midst (with a special shout-out to Bex for not getting tired of me even though we work and live together, and for helping me process my autism diagnosis/work-related stuff/spirituality questions/et cetera).  My service year program manager for helping me out when things go wrong at work (usually related to gender, but it depends).  My coworker and friend Amy, for being willing to let me crash in her office and rant about whatever is going wrong with me.  And finally, Bob the Drag Queen for being the best interviewer, the most knowledgeable about trans issues (for a cis dude I mean), and for providing me a platform to talk about .
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled? I don’t even know which specific politician to name here.  So many times I open the news and just get SO mad at people.  Special shout-out to Doug Wardlow, Jeff Johnson, and other assholes who were running for office in Minnesota this year.  Everything surrounding the murder of Jamal Khashoggi truly sickened me, as well.
14. Where did most of your money go? After my Minneapolis move?  Definitely Lyft rides.  It’s kind of a problem, but if a bus ride is going to transfer at a certain point or will last over 45 minutes I’m really uneasy about riding.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? All of my birthday festivities were amazing (which goes without saying), but everything surrounding the day I met Bob the Drag Queen probably takes the cake.  When I purchased tickets to the early voting drag brunch, I didn’t know she would be there, but then they announced her and my joy skyrocketed.  Then it was like a line of dominoes falling -- I got to sit on her bus to the polls, I got picked to talk to her about voting early, I found out that a video of just the two of us was posted online, over 20,000 people saw it, and finally when I posted a picture of the two of us on Instagram with a caption about how great she is, she commented “You truly moved me.”  I don’t think I’ve ever been that excited about something -- I literally threw up. Oh, confirmation was also exciting!  It was so great to finally feel like I belonged in a congregation and feel comfortable with my spirituality again.
16. What song will always remind you of 2018? Literally all of Janelle Monae’s Dirty Computer “This is America” -- Childish Gambino “Milwaukee” -- The Both “I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes)” -- The 1975 “Karaoke” ft. Lizzo -- Big Freedia (my Pride jam) “Creep City” -- Jake Shears “Hunger” -- Florence and the Machine “Nothing Compares 2 U” -- Prince
17. Compared to this time last year, are you: (a) happier or sadder? (b) thinner or fatter? © richer or poorer? (a) Hard to tell.  It’s been an up-and-down year, with lots of complicated life events happening. (b) In 2018 I don’t want to give this question any more power.  Answering it used to make me upset, but this year I’m done with that shit. (c) Poorer, I’m guessing.
18. What do you wish you’d done more of? Exercise, lmao.  And cherished the moments when I was happy, gone to more therapy (in the last half of the year, I mean), kept up work-related connections so networking is easier.
19. What do you wish you’d done less of? Relying on the same two or three people for emotional support, worrying about things that don’t matter.
20. How did you spend Christmas? I came home on the 22nd, and immediately went to my grandma’s for the big extended family Christmas.  I didn’t have a great time, really, but a highlight was the gift card exchange that we did last year -- this year, we all handed our cards to my aunt who was diagnosed with breast cancer/has had really bad financial trouble this year.  It was a really touching moment.  On the 23rd, I went with Taryn and some family members to an amusement park that was all decked out for Christmas.  Christmas Eve and Day were actually super low-key this year.  I stayed with my parents, we opened presents and watched movies and TV specials.  I guess one change is that I decorated the tree on Christmas Eve because I was too tired to do it when I was home for Thanksgiving.
21. Did you fall in love in 2018? Definitely not.  Love is tired.
22. What was your favourite TV program? RuPaul’s Drag Race, Queer Eye, and Great British Bake-Off are the only real answers.  I also binged Dancing Queen, Grace and Frankie, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and The Good Place though.
23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year? I don’t think so?
24. What was the best book you read? Right now I’m reading and loving Joan Didion’s The Year of Magical Thinking.  Honestly, I think the best book I’ve read though is Adulting by Kelly Williams Brown.  It breaks down all the parts of being a grown person that freak the fuck out of me into simple and hilarious bits, and makes me feel actually competent at being alive.
25. What was your greatest musical discovery? Kim Petras!  God, I’ve been sleeping so hard on her music.  I’ve also been listening to Trixie Mattel’s "One Stone” a lot, and getting even more into Prince’s music.
26. What did you want and get? Community and a feeling of belonging -- both in college and in my new environment in Minneapolis.  Self-knowledge with the autism diagnosis.  Also, a Trixie Mattel Funko Pop.
27. What did you want and not get? I really wanted this to be the year my parents accepted me, and I tried to make it happen.  Alas, though...  Also, I really wanted the placement I work at to be a good fit for me because I love the organization, and I’m not sure that it is.  (It’s not really a friendly place for a trans person with autism.)
28. What was your favourite film of this year? 2018 -- Black Panther, Love Simon, The Incredibles 2, Three Identical Strangers, Roma, Dumplin’, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.  Of all these, I’d say Roma or Spider-Man. Films I loved that weren’t released in 2018 -- The Big Sick, I Tonya, Cache, Melancholia, Poetry, Ip Man, The Americanization of Emily, Sheikh Jackson.  Of all these, my favorites were Melancholia and I Tonya.  Plus, a special shout-out to Rocky Horror Picture Show for helping me and my housemates bond and inspiring the drag show I went to on my birthday. Finally, a special shout-out to Infinity War for being literally the worst movie I saw this year.
29. What one thing made your year immeasurably more satisfying? Honestly?  The concept of Drag Race.  There have been days where I’ve been really sad, but knowing an episode of Drag Race is coming has gotten me through.  I say the concept of because oftentimes the actual episode has made me wince or just been blah... I’d also cross stitching, and my podmates/housemates.
30. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2018? “I’m a boy, please acknowledge me as a boy” mixed with slightly more knowledge about fashion/attempting to look good but also not caring as much about my appearance.
31. What kept you sane? My friends, therapists, the college pastors, a few stand-out coworkers, long hot showers while belting Spotify playlists.
32. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy most? It’s always Tegan and Sara, but I can feel my obsessive interest in them fading a bit as the Drag Race thing takes over.  I’d also say Tan France, Trixie Mattel (don’t judge me), Janelle Monae, Julie Andrews.
33. What political issue stirred you most? Voter turnout/suppression, trans issues (mostly related to the memo), family separation at the border, homelessness, prison abolition.
34. Who did you miss? College friends who graduated in 2017 (particularly Jacob and Tall Joseph), college friends after we graduated, really everyone I knew in college -- professors, pastors, faculty, staff.  I’ve really missed my home therapist this year -- I feel like nobody I’ve seen in 2018 has truly gotten me the way she does, and I miss that a lot.
35. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2018. This has been a huge year on this front, honestly. I’m surprised I didn’t say this in 2017, but I guess it didn’t sink in now -- several lessons from my time in the hospital last year have come floating back.  Namely, that I must say good-bye to manic episodes if I’m going to survive (it sounds ridiculous, but I really rely on hypomania to get things done/feel better about myself, and it’s a nice change in pace from depression).  I need to learn to be OK with just existing and not necessarily existing as a person who accomplishes things.  I need to stop looking at suicide as an option (this also sounds simple, but my jaw literally dropped when I heard this the first time).  I’ve also learned that there are ways I should adapt to the world, but there are also ways I don’t really need to adapt and should focus on self-care instead -- i.e., it’s not my fault that I get easily worn out at social stuff, have to put up with gross transphobic shit at work, deal with sensory issues.  There are things I don’t need to know about other people, things I don’t need to know, and things I don’t need to tell other people.  (In other words, don’t hurt people for the sake of spilling the tea or whatever, and don’t dig around to find information that will likely hurt me.)  Finally, being alone is great but I need to be careful not to let that become isolation.
36. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year. “It was great when it all began / I was a regular Frankie fan / But it was over when he had the plan /To start working on a muscle man” -- “Rose Tint My World,” Rocky Horror Picture Show (simply because this is me and my housemates’ favorite thing to randomly burst into)
TL;DR:  It’s been a huge year.  Dare I say the biggest year I’ve had while I’ve written these things up?  There have been major life transitions, major accomplishments, major struggles -- luckily, I think the accomplishments outweigh all of the less-fun stuff.  I’m sincerely looking forward to 2019, but I’m definitely going to miss the friendships, fun, and more from 2018.
Here’s 2017′s, if anyone’s counting...
And 2016′s...
Same for 2015...
And finally, 2014!

MIKEY’S PERSONAL BLOG 123, September 2018
On Monday afternoon, I had my first official appointment with my new mental health support worker Vadim at The Coffee Club Casey Central. I was having some reservations about this due to the fact that this was a sudden change that I hadn’t mentally adjusted to yet. Thankfully my former support worker Ally was there to make me feel more comfortable and make the transition easier for me.
I guess my issue is that both Vadim and I have very similar personalities and it could get silent very quickly. This is where I love preparing lists of topics to talk about so that I have a backup plan. I was literally compiling my current list at around 11pm last night as I couldn't sleep as usual, detailing my thoughts and feelings around work, booking myself in to see a psychiatrist, the local gig I attended last Friday night, the Men of Doveton program and an upcoming Trivia Night with the Young Adults Aspergers group.
By the end of the appointment, we were all laughing in hysterics and I unintentionally got myself burned out. The conversation did dive into difficult territory around how I manage myself in social situations as I put a tonne of pressure on myself and overthink about what others expectations are. One of the most important lessons I got out of today is to not judge a book by its cover. I’ve decided to give Vadim a chance and see how things go until the NDIS takes over my support services. https://www.dss.gov.au/our-responsibilities/mental-health/programs-services/personal-helpers-and-mentors-phams
On Tuesday morning, I attended a HIIT Power Training and Boxing class with Cinamon Guerin at CinFull Fitness. Honestly getting to this class by 9.40am was very much a struggle for me even during the school holidays with no peak hour traffic. I think it comes down to two main factors: lack of sleep and lack of motivation. But like any type of gym session, making the effort to travel there is half the battle for me. There was another four clients in today’s session which I felt comfortable about.
What I didn’t expect from today’s PT session was my internal fears from last year beginning to resurface. Thankfully Cinamon was on the sidelines to give me some encouragement and realistic advice. There’s plenty of complex issues at play when it comes to my fitness journey: how I feel about myself as a person, self-consciousness, body image, comparing myself to others, irrational perceptions of what’s “good enough”, the internal pressure of needing to “keep up” with the others. https://www.self.com/story/strategies-for-gym-anxiety-at-any-size
These are still things I’m continuing to work on however. It doesn’t help when your first experience inside a gym was full of personal trainers and coaches with massively inflated egos, a penchant for competitiveness, constant gym selfies and videos filmed on smart phones and barely any focus on mental health issues. If you couldn’t handle the workouts, then too bad. That was the philosophy and attitude that I got from them. https://www.fitnesseducation.edu.au/blog/health/how-personal-trainers-can-support-and-enhance-mental-health/
Thankfully Cinamon’s philosophy and attitude is the complete opposite of this. She is very compassionate, supportive, safety-conscious and always considers the client’s needs first and foremost. The first half of the session focused on weight lifting and resistance training: med ball slams, back squats, overhead presses, squats and push ups. We also did some deep weighted squats and hip thrusters with the dumbbells. https://www.bodybuilding.com/content/hiit-training-for-strength-athletes-do-it-without-losing-gains.html
During the second half, we did some boxing drills in pairs which included jabs, uppercuts and hooks are different speeds and intensities plus 10, 20, 30 reps and runs in between. My boxing technique is getting there. It’s a good thing that I’m a fast learner because it’s really hard work getting the positioning and co-ordination correct sometimes. Thankfully everyone in the group classes are really friendly, understanding and patience particularly when you’re still a beginner. https://www.facebook.com/CinFullFitness/
On Thursday night, I attended the Young Adults Aspergers Peer Support Group held at MS Australia - The Nerve Centre in Blackburn. This month the group leaders put on a trivia night which turned out to be a great idea. I’ve been to many trivia nights in my 32 year lifetime and I pretty much know what can go wrong (making the questions too hard, not giving people enough time to answer the questions, having the night go on way too long, throwing in unnecessary games/auctions/raffles and overly long presentations, having too many people at one table and also in the whole room).
Thankfully the crew at Aspergers Victoria managed to sidestep most of those issues. We got divided into small groups of 3-5 people to a table which was a wise decision. Socially, this is the most relaxed I’ve felt in a very long time. I think that it shows how far I’ve come since joining AV. I getting to know other Aspies and feel comfortable in that space. I’m also learning that it’s okay to not have much to say or to actively listen to conversations.
There was two rounds of questions with categories including technology, computers, video games, fantasy, role playing games, history, music, TV shows, literature, physics, chemistry and public transport. Obviously I really struggled on the “nerdier” topics but there were a few that were dead obvious to me. We also had the challenge of working out 20 different train stations on the 2018 version of the Victorian Train Network. I’ve studied this map a few times (or at least older versions of it) so I could figure out a few station right away. Others I was racking my brain over.
The night was hosted by a guy named Phil. I actually felt a lot of empathy for him especially when he was having difficulty pronouncing some of the words in the questions and answers. It was also a challenge speaking over the loud conversations that continued to happen in the room. At least the leaders were keeping things in check tonight as things can easily go off on a tangent and not be focused back on what we’re supposed to be doing.
But overall, it was a really enjoyable night. We even got spoiled with a large selection of pizzas for dinner. At just under 2 hours, it was also the right length as my concentration and interest levels tend to dip after that point. I’ll never know why people think it’s necessary to have trivia nights run for 4-5 hours. It’s beyond ridiculous. I personality think a couple of hours is more than enough, otherwise it becomes a very long and tiring night. https://aspergersvic.org.au/young-adults
“Ask for forever when the end is in sight. Showing what you want to. We're looking for the light in an ocean of night. But will we ever see it through? And I need you to know I'm not asking for a miracle. But if love is enough, could you let it show? If you feel it could you let me know?” CHVRCHES - Miracle (2018)
“Is it alright if I save myself and if I clean up my own mess. Is it enough, yeah? Is it enough? 'Cause I've had enough. Do you ever wonder what we learned? We can raise our glasses, dancing on the ashes as it burns. Have you reached the point of no return?”           CHVRCHES - Heaven/Hell (2018)

Part 1 of 3. “Things Change in A Moment!” Greatest News of my life in the morning/ and a bomb on my soul at 3:33 p.m. (August 2, 2018) Last Thursday, one week ago today, with great dreams being realized, I was given devastating news. Okay first of all on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, MIchael and I met with the head of marketing for Dos Lagos to review and finalize details to pursue our idea of having one day a month, preferably the first Sunday, be a PET SOCIAL at their beautiful location. And, get all the paperwork finished, i.e. contracts. Insurance secured, and details of the planned itinerary for each show from time to activities. Swirling in my head has been to create a day not about us, but about bringing together our community of dog, and pet lovers, to share their animals, enjoy some quality speakers from vets, to trainers, to people with books or TV shows sharing new ideas on pet care, and even have some neighborhood kids singing to entertain all. And have raffles, a bake shop, and other fun little entities. The entire event is about bringing our community together, and also let people know about our dogs in need of new homes, plus the animals waiting to be saved in our shelters. So, upon leaving there, I was in the clouds. Now, however, on Tuesday, when we had our first appointment, I was unable to walk that morning, and had to postpone the meeting a day, however it was all working out. The marketing professional has bigger ideas than me! That says a lot about this creative man. He plans in a few months, because he’s sure we will be packed to close off streets. YES YES YES. This man gets it! Completely, and greater than we do ! Im designing dog Costumes for our young people volunteers. We can be just like Disney. I began working on the itinerary the moment we got back to the Sanctuary. Then the next morning, Michael and I had to get up really early as I had a long awaited appointment with the top spinal neurologist surgeon at USC. I had seen him before; he did not think he could redo my four botched back and sacrum surgeries; suggested I get a spinal NEURO transmitter, kind of like a pacemaker for the spine. I cant walk, my left leg is nearly all dead, and each day the pain is excruciating. His EMG test showed my L4, L 5, and S 1 in my spine were severed. But I felt in my heart the NEURO deal was just a bandaid. I don’t need a bandaid. I need a solution. Everyday I cant walk, and the pain is excruciating. Well, this man had been working trying to figure out what was the real problem. And he found out the issue, My sacrum is not straight. He sent all my records, and tests, to John Hopkins and other outside resources too. Well, 12 years ago, I broke my sacrum ice skating in northern Minnesota on Christmas Eve day, Dressed up in a winter wonderland dress, new skates, and rolling along with my cousins on an area all the boys had cleared for us girls. Hot toddies were at our pit stops, Im with my cousins that have been in my life since born, its Christmas and just like all our Christmas Holidays as children, we were together, and skating . . . . . Oh let the Minnesota wind blow! Plus I looked so cute. Well, the rink was a little bumpy. Hey the guys are older now too, but who cared; not me! But thirty minutes out I went down on my ribs, yes I broke a couple of those too, but I did not care. I got up and flew off to skate more. Im nearly flying. Happy? I was in heaven! However THEN I fell on my back. Oh brother! I could not get up! OOPS. And dear Michael comes over to me, my pretty dress ripped at the bottom, I can’t get up at all, and he says, “I thought you were a really great skater?.” Yeah, yeah, well guess Ive lost some of my flight with age. Us kids skated hour after hour as children. But those years had long passed, and I knew I was in trouble. The boys, now men, had to carry me back to the house. Good grief! And pain, I think I drank an entire bottle of Minnesota Brandy! It was interesting though, I was still having the time of my life. I was with my dear dear cousins, we played Bingo for Christmas Eve, nearly killing each other over getting the extraordinary gifts, of ducks carved by one of the guys, blankets hand made, and just precious gifts. You toss dice, and when the gifts are all opened, you toss the dice among you, and when you get doubles, you can take a gift from another person. That’s when the fun begins. As kids we were dangerous over the gifts mostly hand made. No wonder I have such a diligent drive to WIN! And never give up. So all my childhood memories I was reliving. Little did I know I had SHATTERED my SACRUM. Shattered! I had destroyed my sacrum. But with cocktails, laughter and a MInnesota old-fashioned blizzard, just like when I was a child, I was on a cloud. Michael and I had driven to Minnesota to fix up my aunt’s home. She was found murdered, oh thats another story, she was MURDERED. I was her executor and niece. She and my mom were very close, and Nancy spent all her summers with her children, same age as me, at our supper club. Now she was dead, and it was and still is a horror. Another day I will tell all, but not right now. But we are in a truck, 400 miles north of the cities, and thousands of miles north of our home in California. The day after Christmas, we still had celebrating to do, the usual meal, And just sharing all our tales. But the following day MIchael and I headed down to Minneapolis, in a a severe snowstorm which for me made the trip bearable, and memorable, and fun! Im easy to please! We decided we would go to the hospital in the cities, as if I had to go into a hospital MIchael could be working on the my aunts house that had been stripped and nearly destroyed by a stranger she had befriended. A lonely woman in need of love! Well Edina hospital informed me my tail bone was broken, and just needed to heal. And gave me I think 250 20 mg. Of Percocet. Yikes. And my many other relatives made sure we had liquor. I love being in Minnesota! We had a balloon bed on the floor. I hurt so bad, and could not lift my legs at all; couldn’t really walk, but I supervised! We were thinking of moving back there at this point. My aunts home was beautiful, it had just been harmed, but it was coming together so elegant, and I thought I would finally get to go back home. A dream in my heart for years. But it did not happen. I was too sick, and we did what was critical, well Michael did, and headed home to California. We set up pillows and tried to make me comfortable, it was a horrible ride though. We met Michaels mom, dad, sister and family in Arizona. They were celebrating a family anniversary. I tried to attend the dinner, but we had to get up and leave. We got on the highway. I needed to be in a hospital, and we needed to get home. At the dinner table, I asked everyone for their drinks . . . .told them not to worry they should order a couple more. The pain had become excruciating. And then we were home, we did not even go home, Michael drove us to our Corona hospital, where they told me to study yoga, and within minutes Michael took me to UCI. Immediately I was given Morphine. I had never had morphine, that I knew about, and I made them flush it out, I hated the feeling, but other drugs were acceptable. Then I was told my sacrum was shattered. However by now, it had started to heal. I was placed in the hospital for a few days, but made a decision to just let it heal. I COULD NOT GO THRU the PAIN again! For eight months I could not walk. But I exercised faithfully and hard core daily, and finally I was at least able to walk. I thought I was going to be okay. I didn’t realize my sacrum made the structure of my body unstable and unbalanced. Well, that fall and the damage is my entire problem today. UCI with my four surgeries never fixed the sacrum. My back sticks out which is not acceptable. My doctor at USC says you can’t walk for long with the position of my spine. You lose all stability. I only have a few months to get things fixed, or I can become paralyzed. This doctor was haunted by what he had seen in my tests. He told me on this morning, August 2, 2018, that he could fix me or at least give it all he has, as I DONT HAVE A CHOICE. I was beyond happy, I now had hope and a real solution. I can be fixed. Then I had a CT Angiogram with contrast. Remember I had a heart attack and have congestive heart. failure, with a definite constricted heart. The new back surgery is dangerous, so all has to be cleared. I have the test done, and found out my veins are just not working at this time.. They had to use my hand for the IV for the contrast. What else can go wrong. But moving right along, test all done, Michael and I are almost home after another long journey now from LA USC to home in Corona; it’s about 3:30. My cardiologist phones: “You need to turn your car around and come back here. We need to put you in the hospital immediately. You have clot in you lung. You have a critical pulmonary embolism!” “WHAT?” No. Michael turned the car around, but the traffic was absolute grid-lock. He said we needed to go to Corona.....NO NO NO! Anyway, no choice I could die taking the ride. So We went to Corona. First thing I am told is this hospital no longer has a cardiac department, oh goodness. But they did have lung doctors. Get me to USC. “You can’t travel!” I am told. Visit us at www.greenlandhollerpets.org

Can someone convince me Car insurance isn't a complete waste of money.?
I'm only just turning 18 so I've never bought insurance myself my whole life. My stance on insurance is this: You might not have full coverage, they'll try to weasel out of paying you AND you might go for years without getting into an accident. In that time, if you pool up the money you'd have spent on car insurance you'd be able to pay for a car accident anyways. Now I'm just pulling this out of my butt, I don't have much of a basis on saying these things other than its just how i feel about it all, which is why I'm here. What creases me the most out of all this is that i hear car insurance for people my age is high, they treat us all the same and were not given a chance. Apparently no one sees age discrimination if it were slapped on to their face. They force you to have car insurance in Ontario which to me sounds a little ridiculous because i thought insurance was a service, an offer provided by companies, not an obligatory contract the government makes you pay for even if you don't want it. You can see my clear disposition against it at all, quite frankly i about don't wanna drive at all at this point. Though I want to be convinced because Canada's winters are cold, and modern life today kind of requires you to have your own mode of transportation.""

Health Insurance N. Florida?
Health Insurance CHP (Capital Health Plan) Tallahassee FL is diagnosing me? Why did my health insurance company contact my primary doctor after a hospital visit? After a recent visit to the ER due to a esophageal stricter which scared us thinking Chest pain! Spent 16 hours being observed and tested! Finally send down to endoscopy for a esophageal dilation! Did the job!! I was sent home 4 hours later! Now two weeks later I get a phone call from my Primary care Doctors office manager saying that my primary received a memo from my health insurance (after my ER visit) company and I was instructed to call and make an appointment for alcoholism counseling???? The night of the incident where I couldn't swallow, and was in pain! we had guests over and had a few beers! I gave the attending ER doctor all information including I had drank beer an hour before I got there. OK, now, For the 16 hours at the hospital and the multiple blood tests, everybody including the Dr's said everything looked good! and the Dr. that discharged me explained to my wife in detail about my blood work, said things were fine. So, why would my CHP (Capital Health Plan) health insurance company be contacting my primary? Especially about alcoholism counseling, this has NEVER been an issue in the past! I'm so upset! I've been with my primary for over 15 years and due to a knee injury he prescribes me mild pain killers, and Florida Law makes him take a urine sample every 3 months! Again this has never come up. Is this normal for an insurance company to do??? I'm so upset!!!!""

Should I stop paying my insurance?
I got a D.U.I. five years ago when I was 18. I got my license back one year later but I had to have my SR22 for three years. The DMV told me Oct. 7 2013 was the last date I had to posses an SR22. My insurance company is still having me pay $50 every month and they threaten to have the DMV suspend my license if I don't pay. Car insurance - first time driver?
First time driver :) I'm 19 & female. I'm hopefully getting a car by the end of the year. So I was just checking the general insurance prices (I know they change regularly, but I just wanted to see) Anyway, I typed all my information, I was the main driver (I didn't put my parents down as additional drivers either) and the cheapest price was 694.94 - would that have been for the year? It was full comp too. It also had a total excess price, what does that mean? I'm really confused; I though first time drivers had high insurance?? Thanks! Also, I have a job so I will be paying for everything. Not my parents. I put in the quote that I had a full driving license, not provisional which I have. Just that I hadn't bought the car. If we do nothing, millions more Americans will be denied insurance because of pre-existing conditions, or see their coverage suddenly dropped if they become seriously ill. Out-of-pocket expenses will continue to soar, and more and more families and businesses will be forced to deal with health insurance costs they cant afford. David Axelrod Senior Advisor to the President Why suddenly focus on the insurance industry? If, as Axelrod says, the status quo is unsustainable .. How will adding 40 million more to the insurance rolls suddenly make it sustainable ? . How will adding to the costs of Insurance Companies decrease their costs? . How will doing nothing , and thereby sustaining the huge profits of the drug industry and the medical industry, reduce medical care costs to the average American?""
""No insurance, spun out on highway during severe snow storm and was hit. Who is at fault?""
The section of highway I was driving on was 2 lanes wide and straight for a mile. Traffic traveling the opposite direction was separated by about 100 feet of grass. The maximum speed limit is 65mph and the minimum is 45mph. I was traveling at an estimated 45mph in the slow lane. The tail end of my car began to slide out to the right and I was unable to correct this due to the terrible conditions of the road. I spun completely around and was facing directly into traffic in the fast lane. A car traveling in the fast lane (at a rate of speed unknown to me) hit me head on, totaling both cars. Its hard to be sure, but I am estimating that the time between initial loss of control and impact was around 10 - 15 seconds. There were no injuries. I did not have insurance on my car due to being a college student and not having help from my parents. It is not legally necessary to possess insurance. Two months later, a collection agency is looking for $3,472 from me. Should I have to pay this?""

How I realised I am pregnant
Circumstances and early signs that led me to a positive pregnancy test
Some women realise they are pregnant after a vague hunch, physical symptoms or taking a test. I had all those experiences when I realised I had became pregnant. I realised I was pregnant when travelling. That trip involved hiding a pregnancy during a wedding. Although those moments were a bit sneaky, they are fond memories.
Conception happened a lot faster than I expected. We started early, assuming it could take 6 months or even more. The decision was made sometime in January. As luck happens, we were successful in February. That's really quick. By mid-March, I would discover the news quite early.
We had booked to fly from Queensland to Sydney for a friend's wedding. In the few days before the trip, I had a feeling in my tummy. The physical feeling was subtle. So I didn't assume pregnancy yet. It seemed like a possibility. But I wasn't sure. Then soon before departure day for our weekend, my middle felt tender and I didn't want to press it. Ok. It was worth taking a test after that.
I used a test that shows a plus sign if positive. One of those lines on the plus showed so faint, it seemed like an error. I wanted to try a different brand of pregnancy test. Since there wasn't time for shopping before my flight, I waited to take a pregnancy test in the hotel.
We visited the local supermarket near the accommodation. A cheaper brand of test offered a box of three sticks. That was perfect. I could feel more certain by doing multiple pregnancy tests to confirm.
Normally that test has just one bold line for a negative. This test result window had a faint second line that became increasingly visible. It wasn't bold like the other. The packaging had instructions that said a faint line is still a positive. Over the next few hours, I used the other couple of tests. They all had two lines.
Home pregnancy tests are known to be quite accurate. But mentally, I just couldn't trust a plastic stick to reveal my fate. That reaction could be normal. Maybe it's denial. It could be skepticism. I still had this attitude of, 'Maybe it is, maybe it isn't.'
I booked in to see my old GP in Sydney. A good blood test should confirm things. The appointment would be hours before our friend's wedding. Our friendly doctor wrote a referral. I then got the actual blood test nearby. Results would be ready late that afternoon. But I would need a GP the next day, who could interpret any data.
That's how I ended up attending a formal wedding and not sipping a single drop of wine. That sort of thing is difficult to hide. I clung onto regular tap water and sparkling water with lemon slices. Beverages with a hint of taste were wonderful during such celebrations. At the time of writing this recollection, I couldn't speculate on whether people thought I was pregnant or not. Nobody said anything. Besides, by the formal event, I had received no confirmations from medical professionals about my pregnancy results. Any speculation would have been just that.
The secrecy was most difficult when I got blood test results in my second doctor's appointment. I was with family and needed to get away for a quick GP visit. I was honest about needing to see a doctor about a blood test. What else would be so urgent on a Sunday in a suburb I don't live in? I couldn't think of a believable alibi. So a vague description of 'blood test' was the way to go. What needed such hurried attention, that I needed medical attention during a weekend away? My story to family, about results for a blood test, was causing worry. Was I ok? Was I sick? They didn't know what was happening. I couldn't focus on other people's confusion. Bigger questions were floating through my head about the actual pregnancy.
A GP phoned the pathology company and they said the basic info on the phone. He said I had the hormone levels that put me at 2-3 weeks pregnant. Further details were faxed to the office. I would receive a physical copy of the scientific evidence about my pregnancy.
What now? I expected this to happen eventually. But I didn't thoroughly plan to fall pregnant quickly. Even when the news sunk in, it barely felt real. We heard stories about how common miscarriages are in the first trimester. People close to us had those experiences. I had to accept the reality that, regardless of what occurs in the future, I was pregnant in that moment.
We then returned to a gathering of the extended family. They were just seeing us because we were in Sydney. We sat through a long lunch, keeping this secret. When is the 'right time' to tell family about a pregnancy? It's normal to wait a few months before sharing it online. But when should we tell loved ones? I felt even more conflicted because we don't see family often. I didn't want to return home and keep them in the dark for months. There's no perfect correct way to reveal a pregnancy. It's personal choice.
I wanted to have a big announcement with most family members together. Hubby felt nervous about telling a big group. I wanted to respect my husband's decision to keep the pregnancy a secret. That choice lasted until some people had gone home, and some were still at the party. Then he made the legitimate choice to suddenly feel ready to share the news.
There were smiles and a few tears on the faces of our closest family. Someone did ask whether it was planned. We planned to allow many months of trying. But I barely took less than two months to fall pregnant. Relatives were very practical. Where would we live? Would I continue my studies? I'm sure there's diversity in how families react to news of a pregnancy. My family was positive and real. Announcing a pregnancy was pretty simple with relatives. Ever family is different. We got lucky on that day.
One thing was certain. I would need time to consider housing and work. My 3 weeks of pregnancy had happened in the first few weeks of a law degree. Although I had been oblivious for the first few weeks, which is very normal. I had suddenly been accepted into a degree a few days before the semester started. Including orientation week, I had became simultaneously three weeks into a degree and pregnancy. What are the odds?
Week 4 of pregnancy became a time of research and contemplation. We detected the pregnancy early enough, it allowed plenty of time to prepare. So all I wanted in week for was, as the marketing world calls it, information search in an early stage of the decision making process for housing and occupation.
Early in the first trimester, we lived in a small apartment. It was time to consider a larger property. We could rent a house or buy one. Various neighbourhoods were options to live in. There was some time, but not forever. What would the future hold? Informed decisions would soon be needed.
Also, would I stay in the degree for a career change? Surely I may as well take a break from studying. Should I balance it for at least a few months? Or do other priorities take over? Although organisations should not discriminate against pregnant women, I still am not obligated to do everything. I support the reduction of commitments to focus on what matters most.
New business activities were also on the horizon. One of my previous business models didn't reach the goals I wanted. If something doesn't succeed for a few months, agile variation can bring projects closer to success. Alternative business approaches were required.
So there I was. It was the middle of March in 2018. What would happen next? Any next moves would need research then action.
At least in the short term, practicalities should be balanced with positivity. I became pregnant!

We appreciated the many parking areas in the complex and also liked the fact that you could not enter any of the room areas without a key
