Ledisi
Tumblr media
Ledisi Anibade Young (born March 28, 1972), better known simply as Ledisi, is an American R&B and jazz recording artist, songwriter, and actress. Her first name means "to bring forth" or "to come here" in Yoruba. In 1995, Ledisi formed the group Anibade. After unsuccessfully trying to get the group signed to a major label, she formed LeSun Records with Sundra Manning. Anibade and Ledisi released an album entitled "Soulsinger" (black and white cover on the LeSun Music independent label) featuring the song Take Time, which gained substantial airplay from San Francisco area radio stations. A twelve-time Grammy Award nominee, Ledisi has released eight studio albums between 2000 and 2017.
In 2000, Ledisi re-released her first major label signed album, titled Soulsinger: The Revival. Ledisi and her group toured in 2001. In 2002, Ledisi released her second album, Feeling Orange but Sometimes Blue. The album won an award for "Outstanding Jazz Album" at the California Music Awards.
In 2005, Ledisi signed a record deal with Verve Forecast and released her third album, titled Lost & Found, on August 28, 2007; it sold almost 217,000 copies and earned her two Grammy nominations, including one for Best New Artist. In 2008, Ledisi released her Christmas album, It's Christmas.
In 2009, Ledisi released her fourth album Turn Me Loose, which earned her two Grammy nominations, followed by her fifth album Pieces of Me (2011) which debuted on the US Billboard 200 album chart at number eight, becoming the first top-ten album of her career and her highest-charting album to date. It also garnered three Grammy nominations at the 54th Grammy Awards including for Best R&B Album. In 2013, she received a nomination for Best R&B Performance at the 55th Grammy Awards for her collaboration with fellow R&B and jazz musician Robert Glasper for the album cut "Gonna Be Alright" from his fifth album Black Radio (2012). In 2014, she released her sixth album The Truth to critical acclaim and moderate sales. She portrayed legendary gospel singer Mahalia Jackson in the 2014 Martin Luther King, Jr. biopic, Selma.
Early life
Ledisi was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. She grew up in a musical family; her mother, Nyra Dynese, sang in a Louisiana R&B band and her stepfather, Joseph Pierce III, (deceased) was a drummer in the New Orleans area. Her biological father is soul singer Larry Sanders, the son of blues singer Johnny Ace. He left the family when she was a baby and they did not meet again for nearly three decades.
Ledisi first began performing publicly at age eight with the New Orleans Symphony Orchestra. Ledisi moved to Oakland, California, where she attended McChesney Junior High School, now Edna Brewer Middle School. She was shy about her singing abilities and would sing only upon request when students in her gym class would implore her to sing Deniece Williams's version of Black Butterfly, bringing the entire locker room audience under the spell of her very mature, melodious voice. As she sang more publicly her music career blossomed. She was nominated for a Shellie award in 1990 for her performance in a production of The Wiz and performed in an extended run with the San Francisco cabaret troupe, Beach Blanket Babylon. She studied opera and piano for five years at University of California Berkeley in their Young Musicians Program.
Musical career
1995–1999: Career beginnings
In the 1990s, Ledisi formed a group called Anibade, alongside Sundra Manning (producer, keyboards, songwriting), Phoenix (LaGerald) Normand (background vocals, songwriting), Cedrickke Dennis (guitar), Nelson Braxton (bass), Wayne Braxton (sax), and Rob Rhodes (drums), playing a jazz and hip-hop influenced kind of soul. The group won acclaim in the San Francisco Bay Area with a cult-like following of die-hard fans who referred to themselves as "Ledites" and meet her with love at every event, singing along verbatim to songs that though unrecorded at the time, were well known by their fans. The group later recorded a demo of one of the songs from their set, entitled, "Take Time" which was played on local stations and requested non-stop. Ledisi tried to get the group signed to a major label, but had no luck. Ledisi also performed often with jazz saxophonist Robert Stewart throughout the early 1990s in San Francisco.
2000–2003: Soulsinger: The Revival and Feeling Orange but Sometimes Blue
In January 2000, Ledisi released her first album, Soulsinger: The Revival, independently on her label, LeSun Records. The album spun off four singles, "Soulsinger", "Take Time", "Get Outta My Kitchen", and "Good Lovin'". After the release of Soulsinger: The Revival, Ledisi toured with her group Anibade.
In 2002, Ledisi released her second album, Feeling Orange but Sometimes Blue, which was also released independently. The album featured the singles "Feeling Orange but Sometimes Blue" and "Autumn Leaves". During this time she also recorded commercials for the Sci Fi Channel. In 2003, Ledisi won "Outstanding Jazz Album" for Feeling Orange but Sometimes Blue at the California Music Awards.
2006–2008: Lost & Found
During her five-year hiatus, Ledisi made appearances on soundtracks. In 2007, she signed with Verve and released "Blues in the Night" which featured on the tribute album, We All Love Ella: Celebrating the First Lady of Song.
In August 2007, Ledisi's third album, Lost & Found, was released. During her hiatus, Ledisi stated that she was unsure of wanting to stay in the music industry. In response, Ledisi wrote the song "Alright" to express her life. "Alright" became the lead single and debuted at #45 on the Billboard Hot R&B chart. The album's second single, "In The Morning", debuted at #49 on the Billboard Hot R&B chart. Other songs from the album charted but were not released as singles. "Think of You" charted at #71 on the Hot R&B charts, "Joy" charted at #103 on the Hot R&B charts and #29 on the Adult R&B Airplay.
In December 2007, the album earned her two Grammy nominations, including one for Best New Artist. In 2008, Ledisi continued her tour to promote the album, Lost & Found. By January 2009, the album had sold 216,894 copies.
In September 2008, Ledisi released her Christmas album, It's Christmas, which featured the singles "This Christmas" and "Children Go Where I Send Thee". In December 2008, Ledisi's T.V. special aired on Gospel Channel, titled "Ledisi Christmas". Ledisi performed a few songs from her Christmas album. "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" and "Give Love On Christmas Day" charted on the Hot R&B charts at #113.
In 2008 Ledisi performed the song "The Man I Love" as a blues singer in the Leatherheads movie.
2009–2010: Turn Me Loose
In 2009, Ledisi's fourth studio album was announced as Turn Me Loose. The album was released on August 18, 2009. Speaking in April 2010 to noted UK R&B writer Pete Lewis – Deputy Editor of the award-winning Blues & Soul – Ledisi explained the album's title reflected its musical diversity: "The title 'Turn Me Loose' is basically me saying 'I don't wanna be boxed in! Let me be myself as a performer and singer, because I do EVERYTHING! Not just one particular style!'." She employed production from seasoned R&B songwriter-producers such as Raphael Saadiq, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, James "Big Jim" Wright, and Carvin & Ivan. The first single from the album was "Goin' Thru Changes". The second single was "Higher Than This", produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and James "Big Jim" Wright.
On May 13, 2010, Ledisi performed at Charter Oak Cultural Center's 9th Annual Gala, a fundraiser for free after-school youth arts programming in inner-city Hartford. She performed several songs from Turn Me Loose, and also performed a duet with Anika Noni Rose, a tribute to the late Lena Horne.
2011–2012: Pieces of Me
Ledisi toured with R&B/soul singer Kem on his North American INTIMACY Tour. On March 10, 2011, during her opening act in Atlanta, Georgia, Ledisi announced that she had finished recording her fifth studio album, Pieces of Me, on March 9, 2011. It was released on June 14, 2011. It debuted at number 8 on the Billboard 200 album chart, selling 38,000 copies in its first week. The album's title track served as the album's lead single.
Ledisi has performed at the White House seven times at the request of President and First Lady Obama.
Ledisi headlined her first tour to promote her album, Pieces of Me. The Pieces of Me Tour played to 22 sold out shows across North America. With this album, she received three nominations for the 2012 Grammy Awards, in the categories Best R&B Album, Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song, for the album and the lead single "Pieces of Me".
Ledisi released her first book, Better Than Alright: Finding Peace, Love & Power on Time Home Entertainment, Inc. in 2012. The book, an innovative collaboration with ESSENCE, is filled with the singer's personal photos, quotes, lyrics, and richly detailed stories of her journey to acceptance of her beauty, talent, and power.
On April 6, 2012, Ledisi announced her second headlining tour, B.G.T.Y., with Eric Benet serving as an opening act. In December 2012, VH1 announced that Ledisi would perform at their 2012 VH1 Divas show, a concert benefiting the Save The Music Foundation charity. Ledisi performed a Whitney Houston tribute medley with Jordin Sparks and Melanie Fiona.
2014–2016: The Truth
On March 2014, Ledisi released her new album The Truth. She is also on tour with Robert Glasper in partnership with the magazine "Essence" (which featured her on one of their three April covers as well as Erykah Badu and Solange Knowles).
In April 2014, Ledisi was cast to play Mahalia Jackson in the American historical drama film, Selma, directed by Ava DuVernay and written by Paul Webb and DuVernay. It is based on the 1965 Selma to Montgomery voting rights marches led by James Bevel, Hosea Williams, and Martin Luther King, Jr. In the film and on the official film soundtrack, Ledisi sings "Take My Hand, Precious Lord". Initially slated to perform at the 57th Grammy Awards as part of a tribute to the Selma March alongside Common and John Legend (who performed their Oscar-winning duet "Glory") she was ultimately snubbed by the Recording Academy and recording artist Beyoncé, who performed in her place. Ledisi's snubbing and Beyoncé's performance received mixed reaction from social media. In 2015, she received her ninth Grammy Award nomination for Best R&B Performance for the single "Like This" off of her seventh album The Truth. She lost to Beyoncé and Jay Z for "Drunk in Love".
2017–present: Let Love Rule
In May 2017, Ledisi released a single titled "High" produced by Darhyl "Hey DJ" Camper and Rex Rideout. Her eighth studio album called Let Love Rule was released on September 22, 2017. In November 2017, she received three more nominations at the 60th Grammy Awards in January 2018 including Best R&B Album, Best R&B Performance and Best Traditional R&B Performance. Ledisi won a Soul Train Award 'Soul Certified Award' for the album.
Ledisi helped the BET Awards pay tribute to Anita Baker, the Lifetime Achievement Award recipient of the night on June 24, with a rendition of the singer's 1986 ode "Sweet Love".
Ledisi was then a part of the Aretha Franklin Tribute that was put together by the annual award ceremony known as Black Girls Rock. Ledisi delivered a rendition of the hit "Ain't No Way".
In October 2018, Ledisi performed with Adam Lambert in an NBC broadcast, A Very Wicked Halloween: Celebrating 15 Years on Broadway, before a live studio audience at the Marquis Theatre in New York, singing "As Long as You're Mine" from Wicked.

🟦 Maxfield Parrish’s artwork has a combination of naturalized backgrounds, lengthy heroic female figures with crimson orange and deep rich cobalt blues. His goal was to express Greek poetry through his art. The Greek God of love Eros was one of his favorite subjects to paint. Art critics often refer his deep purples as Parrish Blue. His paintings are of classical themes, however because of his use of unique colors, and reflectional light sources, they seem strikingly modern. They are realistic and fantasy at the same time. An artist’s category of work, for even a well received painter is around 300 pieces, Parrish has over 900. Maybe because he was a book illustrator, a graphic designer in an advertising agency, published in magazines, and also created some of the most striking paintings you’ll find in museums, some over 9 feet long. And yet, whenever you mention Maxfield Parrish, only a few examples of work come to mind..
▪️He was born Frederick Parrish, where his father Stephen was a painter, etcher and a Quaker in Philadelphia. In 1888 Maxfield studied architecture at Hartford college but it was a trip to Europe with his mother that changed his life. After seeing the old masters, Michelangelo, Raphael, Delacroix and the Pre-Raphaelites he wanted to become a painter. At the age of 19 Fredrick changed his name to Maxfield which was his Grandmother's last name, and he changed his life to become a painter. He would set up a studio with a background of props of pillars and rocks that his models would pose in front of. Catherine or "Kitty" Owen was one of his favorite models often identifiable in many of his works. His family moved to Annisquam Massachusetts, a small town where both he and his father shared a studio. He was friends with Norman Rockwell and was in the right place at the right time to be a part of the Golden Age of illustration. In his 20s and 30s many of his 900 illustrations were on the magazine covers of, Harper Bazaar, Lady’s Home Journal and Life. Many greeting cards, chocolate boxes and postcards had both his paintings and illustrations on them during the 1920s. His popular postcards were often set next to women's dressing tables near their glass perfume bottles as a window to another idealic world. The printing process for colorful illustrations in books were becoming more common, but still expensive and a part of the educate elate. He wanted to bring his colorful illustrations of ancient Greek literature to an illiterate more of a factory workers crowd. He believed we all are students of life, love and of God and we all should share in the knowledge of the world.
▪️For hundreds of years muscular Greek Gods were depicted in illustrated books with action scenes. Whether it’s Poseidon battling a Cyclops in the stormy seas, or Medusa full of snakes for hair, putting a curse on her enemy and turning them to stone, these popular illustrations are what filled the books of Greek Mythology. However, Parrish’s work was of calm scenes with a character study of who the Greek Gods are, in a a peaceful setting. An individual figure deep in thought, surrounded by the lush corners of heaven illustrates the private moments of their solo experience. These idelic natural settings were usually of golden sunsets upon a beautiful rich blue background. He used a technique of glazing, using a varnish over several layers of paint at once helps to achieve the soft glow He also used the mineral colbalt to make rich blues which had never been used before in paint. Blue, a primary color is an absolute, it's lightness comes when adding white often making a version of baby blue. However Parrish was able to achieve a lighter blue when it called for, still rich in color but lighter working well with his golden oranges of an sunlit sky.
▪️ In 1922, Parrish Painted his most popular painting, Daybreak. This nine foot long painting uses dynamic symmetry from photographs of Kitty Owen, his daughter, and Jean and Susan Lewin as models, posed amidst a backdrop of architectural elements, columns, urns, and fantastical landscape. The natural looking light illuminates the background from a softer hue to a more striking saturation off colors. Notice how the light is diffused in the light blue sky to the right, and then on the female figure bending over, the warm crimson orange on her back almost like a spotlight. Like the French impressionist of the late 1800s, Parrish is not just painting trees, pillars, and two figures. The light is as much of a character study and is the point of the composition. Like in the title, it’s the moment of the day when the first light of the day breaks away from the darkness of the night and illuminates a sunrise, creating colors found during no other time of the day. This painting was the most successful art print of the last century, and during the 1920s one in four households had it either on the wall or as a postcard on display near a nightstand.
▪️In the 1920s he worked at several advertising agencies owning the rights to his artwork and allowing a one time usage, a pioneer in the early days of the royalty fees that later was adopted by the music industry. He was well known, liked and successful during his lifetime something often rare among artists who’s fame often comes after their death. Van Gogh only sold one painting, now his work is worth millions. In the 1940s until his death in 1966 he painted large landscapes but will was always known for his unique illustrations from the 1920s. Today those books, cards and magazines found in used book stores are treasures being snatched up. A good conditioned framed illustration may be worth thousands and the original paintings in the millions. I think he would find this ironic how expensive his artwork has become given his humble beginnings a mission of producing his artwork for everyone.

The Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch, Hartford
By Amanda P. Roy
The Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch, dedicated on September 17, 1886, stands as unique for the period in which it was built. It is very likely the first permanent triumphal arch erected in the United States and, unlike other war memorials around the state, does not list the names of those individuals who served or died in the war. Rather, the inscribed dedication more broadly honors the fact that “more than 4000 men of Hartford bore arms in the national cause nearly 400 of whom died in service.” Hartford’s own George Keller, one of the city’s leading architects of the 1800s, designed the Gothic and Romanesque revival monument. Following Keller’s death in 1935, his ashes were entombed in the East tower of the arch and later joined by those of his wife Mary, who died in 1946.

In 1882, city leaders sponsored a design competition for an arch connected to the Ford Street Bridge that spanned the Park River in Bushnell Park. Despite awarding prizes to the competition’s winners, the committee did not choose any of the submitted designs when feasibility studies indicated that required modifications would exceed the $60,000 budget. Finally, they called on George Keller, who had earlier hoped to be consulted on the project and, when he was not, abstained from the competition. When Keller provided his plan, the selection committee unanimously adopted it.
Detailed Scenes of War and Peace
Builders constructed the arch with Portland brownstone and crafted the friezes with gray terra cotta. The terra cotta friezes, positioned 40 feet above the road, stand 7 feet high and tell the stories of conflict and peace. The northern frieze depicts the Civil War, while the southern frieze commemorates victory and peace. The story of war, sculpted by Samuel Kitson, includes smoking Confederate guns and cannon symbolic of the firing on Fort Sumter and the start of combat. At opposite ends of the panoramic frieze, Union General Ulysses S. Grant surveys the field of battle and naval forces jump from their boats to join the fray.
Bohemian-born American sculptor Caspar Buberl designed the story of peacetime that unfolds on the southern frieze. It tells the tale of Hartford, represented by the seated figure of a woman at center of the scene, welcoming her sons home from battle with laurel wreaths, the traditional victors’ crown. The troops’ journey home is shown in stages, from the dismantling of campsites to the joyous greetings of waiting wives and children. Some of the men travel home by horse or ship; others come injured, leaning on fellow soldiers for support. In addition, the army’s symbol is on the western tower and the navy’s on the east; this serves to separate the two scenes. In all, there are almost 100 full-length human figures sculpted on the friezes.
Sculptures Convey Layers of Meaning
Sculpture of the freed slave on the west tower of the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch – Connecticut State Library, State Archives, PG 400
German-born sculptor Albert Entress designed the monument’s six statues, each of which stands eight feet tall. The figures seek to represent the diversity of Hartford’s war participants by highlighting peacetime trades common to the era. The original six sculptures included a farmer, blacksmith, scholar, merchant, mason, and carpenter. A freed slave, however, replaced the merchant as the final sculpture added to the memorial. The sculptures on the monument’s north side represent the men who left their work to take up arms for the war effort; those on the south represent veterans returning to their normal lives following the fight for the Union.
The arch has two conical roofs, on which sit two angels—Gabriel and Raphael—one playing the trumpet and the other a set of cymbals. Originally made of terra cotta, they were removed and replaced years later by bronze statues after lighting struck one of the originals. In 1986 the city planned a major restoration and rehabilitation to mark the memorial’s 100th anniversary. Using state funds that totaled $1.5 million, architect Dominick C. Cimino oversaw the project to bring the arch to its former glory.
Restored and Rededicated
Trolley under the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch – Connecticut State Library, State Archives, PG 400
Opinions on the structure have varied over the years. The narrow street under the arch caused controversy when city planners proposed and built a trolley line in the 1890s. Later, the narrow roadway caused many a bottleneck when automobiles and foot traffic competed for space. Over time, planners reconstructed sidewalks, covered the Park River, which ran through the park, and removed the Ford Street Bridge. Trinity Street now passes under the arch.
On September 17, 2011, the Connecticut Civil War Commemoration Commission rededicated the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch in Bushnell Park. This ceremony took place 125 years after the original dedication, which coincided with the 24th anniversary of the Battle of Antietam. Those in attendance included city leaders, architect Jim Keller (George Keller’s grandson) who spoke at the ceremony, and Civil War re-enactors who fired a 21-gun salute.
Amanda P. Roy holds a master of arts in History from Central Connecticut State University and is currently a Program Officer for Public Humanities Programming at Connecticut Humanities.

Character profile
► basics; Full Name: Valentin Raphael Hartford Birthday: 25th August 1965 Pronouns: he/him Sexual Orientation: bi Hogwarts House: Hufflepuff Blood Status: pureblood Nationality: English
► personality; Personality type: INTJ Personality: Often times vain and a bit of know it all. Also very charming and wants to do the right thing always.
► magical info; Wand: Beech wood with a dragon heartstring core, 11 ½ and unbending flexibility
The true match for a beech wand would be, if young, wise beyond their years, and if full-grown, rich in understanding and experience. Beech wands performed very weakly for the narrow-minded and intolerant. Such wizards and witches, having obtained a beech wand without having been suitably matched (yet coveting this most desirable, richly hued and highly prized wand wood), had often presented themselves at the homes of learned wandmakers, demanding to know the reason for their handsome wand's lack of power. When properly matched, the beech wand was capable of a subtlety and artistry rarely seen in any other wood, hence its lustrous reputation.
Patronus: Pheasant
Pheasants are noble birds known for their beautiful plumage. They are regal and often symbolize virtue and refinement. Unlike peacocks, they make no show of their feathers but hold themselves to a high standard of etiquette in all situations. They can be a bit proud, which might lead to trouble, but deep down, they care greatly for family and comfort.
Patronus Memory: when Harker laughed for the first time Boggart: Juno dying during a job or during the war Specialized/Favourite Spells:  Expelliarmus
► background;
Place of Birth: London Home: flat in London near the ministry Pre-Hogwarts: Valentin spent his childhood in his family's home on the country side. He aspired to become an auror since young age admiring his uncle. His parents were strict but loving and he had a good relationship with his sister. Their family was safe during The First Wizarding War because of his father staying so neutral, but they did have to cut ties with his favourite uncle who was more vocal for few years there which disappointed him greatly and made him want to become an auror even more so he could take actions.
► physical;
Faceclaim: Lauri Tilkanen Eye Color: blue Hair Color: brown Height: 178cm
Tumblr media
► story;
Valentin started school during The  First Wizarding War but felt fairly safe in Hogwarts. He did want to follow his uncle's example and become an auror when graduates so he could take more actions on the matter and in general protect people. He spent his school years trying to reach the goal. He was hardworking but still had time to become popular in school. After graduating he applied for the auror program and got in easily. On the program he met  Juno Creed. The two solved a tough case on their first trial run and after that it was settled that the two would be work partners.
He never wanted a family but after working for sometime  he was met with a surprise when one of this one night stands greeted him with a baby. Valentin thought of giving his son up for adoption but in the end after spending time with baby Harker, he decided against it and became a single father with a very busy job. During the second wizarding war: Valentin’s fought against the ministry falling during the start of the war but after it eventually happened, it led to his uncle’s death. He was shocked and scared but pretend to be neutral about it to keep his family and his muggleborn boyfriend Juno Creed safe. Juno had to disappear from the ministry and Valentin stayed behind in hopes of keeping at least some things in order. He secretly worked with the Order Of Phoenix and took part on the actual war fighting later.
► relatives;
Son: Harker Hartford Born 1989, Harker came with a name. He was 4 months old and had the token blue eyes that ran in the family. Valentin raised him and the two are very close. Harker thinks of his father as a hero, although he grew up to be very different from him. Harker is more shy and lives head in the clouds. He wants to be a poet one day. Harker is eventually sorted into Hufflepuff like his father. Face claim: William Franklyn Miller
Tumblr media
Father: Gilbert Hartford
Valentin is closer with his uncle than his father. Gilbert  works in the ministry but he is on the international side and travels a lot and the two never formed a close relationship due to that but do get along fine but don't often have deep conversations. His father doesn't always understand his life choices. During the first war, Gilbert stayed neutral publicly but was gone on international war business for the most of it. Valentin hated this and saw his father as a bit of a  coward, wishing to be more like his uncle who took actions. It was only during the Second Wizarding War, when he had his own son that he started to see why his father made the choices he did and could relate to it. Face claim: Dougray Scott
Tumblr media
Mother: Calla Hartford Calla is a hardworking and ambitious woman. She was always supportive of Valentin's dream of becoming an auror and wasn't so glad when she found out about Valentin's son. She thought that he was wasting his dream, starting a family right when his career was starting to take off but in the end, just like her son, she fell in love with the child and also often took care of him. She used to work as a secretary on the auror office but later quit her job there and now writes a column for The Daily Prophet from home.
Face claim: Lisa Chappell
Tumblr media
Sister: Ursula Hartford Ursula is Valentin's younger sister, a very social hufflepuff woman who's working as a secretary in the auror office. She knows all the gossip going around the office. They siblings very different from each other but have always gotten along well. Valentin is protective of Ursula. She is also the godmother of his son Harker and often takes care him when Valentin is busy with his job. Face claim: Lindsay Heather Pearce
Tumblr media
Uncle: Raphael Hartford
Raphael, is Valentin's biggest hero and also his boss at the auror department in the ministry. Raphael was famous for his cases and loyal to his job. He and Valentin were always close and he loved him like his own son. Raphael was strict but had a good sense of humor and a talent for eye rolling and gently judging his workers personal life choices,  but in the end he was always a fair boss and very professional. During The First Wizarding War Raphael was vocally against Voldemort, not enjoying the changes that were happening in the world around him and he got in a lot of trouble for it with the death eaters. He died during The Second Wizarding War after he publicly disagreed with what was happening in the ministry after it fell under Voldemort’s will. Valentin saw this happening and it shook him to his core and forced him to make different choices in order to protect the rest of the family and his loved ones. He had no choice but claim he didn’t agree with Raphael and feared that the man died disappointed in him. Raphael never had children or a wife.
Face claim: Dylan McDermott
Tumblr media
Pets: Juno and Valentin adopted a crup called Hope before the war
► relationships; Love interests: Juno Creed Juno and Valentin went to school at the same time. Valentin didn't remember Juno from the school years, being so "busy" and popular himself. They didn't get along at all at first when paired up for their job, being very different from each other but after working together in many cases, they became good friends and later boyfriends. Juno also became a big part on Harker’s life and eventually helped Valentin raising him.
Things got dark and complicated during The Second Wizarding War for the two. Juno being muggleborn got him in trouble and he had to leave the ministry. Valentin stayed behind and tried to work on the situation from the inside. They also worked with the Order Of Phoenix- Face claim: Hayden Christensen

Clea Malfoy
Clea and Valentin had  a one night stand that never really grew into anything real. She did end up pregnant and gave birth to their son Harker. She didn't want to stay in the picture and left the baby for Valentin's care so he could make the decision for himself if he wants to keep the baby or not. She was not part of either one's life until later... Face claim: Deborah Ann Woll

CANTLON'S CORNER: MID-WEEK NEWS AND NOTES
Tumblr media
BY: Gerry Cantlon, Howlings HARTFORD, CT - The Olympics are into the medal round, and several former Hartford Wolf Pack players and those connected to Connecticut are doing well representing their homelands. Men's Team Canada knocked off the Chinese team on Tuesday, 7-2. Ex-Pack Adam Tambellini garnered five points with two goals, one coming on a penalty shot, with the other three being assists. Ex-Pack Adam Cracknell has one helper in four games. John Gilmour, who's on the taxi squad and has yet to play for the Canadians, has watched his team advance to the quarterfinals against Sweden. Ex-Bridgeport Sound Tiger David Desharnais has an assist in four games. Josh Ho-Sang has three assists in four games. Jack McBain, the son of former New Haven Senator Andrew McBain, registered a goal and an assist against China. MORE OLYMPIC NEWS The 7-2 loss eliminated China. Ex-Pack Ryan Sproul had two assists and goalie Jeremy Smith played in every game, going 0-3 and a 5.63 GAA. To make matters worse, he suffered a knee injury and was taken out of the game against Canada. Aforementioned, Sweden features ex-Pack netminder Magnus Hellberg. He has a 2.46 GAA in two games, while fellow ex-Pack, Carl Klingberg, has three points in three games. Ex-New York Ranger and Wolf Pack forward Marek Hrivik, playing for Slovakia, has a goal and two assists in the Olympics. The Slovaks face the American team on Wednesday at 11:10 PM EST. While playing in the Olympics, Hrivik had his KHL deal with Torpedo Novgorod (Russia) terminated by mutual consent. Instead, he signed a contract with his old Swedish team, Leksands IF (SHL), for the rest of the year. Ex-Springfield Falcon Tomas Jurco has one assist in three games for the Slovaks. Another former Falcon, Marko Dano, is pointless in three games. In four games, Marton Marincin, formerly of the Springfield Thunderbirds, has one goal. EX-PACK CAPTAIN KAMPFER Ex-Pack and Ranger Steven Kampfer, who is playing for ex-New York Rangers' head coach, David Quinn, behind the US bench, has three points in three games. Greenwich's Strauss Mann, like Kampfer, is a fellow Michigan alum. He has played very well. In his only game so far in the Olympic games, he is showing to the world why he is atop the Swedish league. Two former Yale Bulldogs, Brian O'Neill, and Kenny Agostino, have had a solid tourney. O'Neill has three points in three games, and Agostino had the game-winning goal against Canada. It's his only point in three games. Ex-Sound Tiger Aaron Ness has an assist in three games. Jake Sanderson, the son of former Hartford Whaler, Geoff Sanderson, has been limited to playing in only one game due to injury but has put one assist to his credit. Switzerland reached the quarterfinals by beating hockey powerhouse the Czech Republic, 4-2. Ex-Pack Raphael Diaz had a goal and an assist and, one he'd like to forget, in his own net. Andres Ambühl Andres Ambühl, 38, is playing in his fifth Olympics and has scored a goal. He is the second oldest player to score. Borje Salming, 40, a tremendous Swedish defenseman who played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, had potted four goals for Sweden in 1992. Ambuhl is the oldest player to record his first goal. "Today, we played really tight defensively. Everybody came back. We blocked shots. We boxed them out. We won puck battles. Genoni had a hell of a game. He always stopped the first shot, and we cleared the rebounds. I think it was a good, strong effort from the whole team," Diaz told IIHF.com. Ambühl acknowledged his accomplishment. "It's nice to score my first goal at Olympics, but it was great especially for the team," he said to IIHF.com in a post-game interview. "We somehow didn't manage to bury the pucks before and today they bounced our way. Nobody was happy with the preliminary round so we wanted to show that we can play hockey and win too. We wanted to show this reaction. Now we have to continue like that without getting over excited." MORE RESULTS Switzerland faces off with Finland. Latvia was eliminated by upstart Cinderella Denmark 3-2. One Latvian defenseman is former Quinnipiac University (ECACHL) blueliner Karlis Cukste. His KHL deal with his hometown team, Dynamo Riga, dissolved by mutual consent. He signed an agreement with Lahti Pelicans (Finland-FEL) and will report there shortly. Goalie Kristers Gudlevsk, the ex-Sound Tiger, didn't play a game for Latvia. Germany was eliminated by the Slovaks 4-0. Tom Kühnhack had just one goal in the tourney against the US, while former Springfield Falcon Matthia Plachta had one assist in four games. Denmark has ex-Pack Niklas Jensen. He has an assist in four games, while ex-Sound Tiger Frans Nielsen has three assists in three games. He's playing for the ROC (Russian Olympic Committee), where ex-Pack Artem Anisimov has yet to play. ARIZONA The long-running saga in the desert is reaching the end of the story. A plan has been approved locally to have the sad-sack oft-troubled Arizona Coyotes play at the new on-campus venue at Arizona State for three years with an option for a fourth year. They're trying to wind through a skeptical local political windmill and get a third arena built in Tempe. A long-time trusted source was quite pointed on the subject. "The optics look just awful. A team like Seattle, who just spent a billion dollars renovating their arena and $650 million to get into the NHL, who are doing well, have to be looking on in horror. How can a league let a team play in a sub-standard AHL building, though it will be brand new at, say the 5,000 they are saying, let alone NHL level facility which it clearly will not be, for multiple years and not get priority dates (ASU will) and only game revenue (no building or naming rights)? "Simply put Gary Bettman does not want to ever lose a market like Arizona. I'm shocked there is not more of an uproar so far over this. This obviously has to affect the HRR (Hockey-Related-Revenue) between the players and the owners as agreed to in the CBA." There will be cries to move the team from many former and new cities looking to join the NHL. RELOCATION SITES? In Quebec City, there is a hockey palace already built waiting for an occupant. The Videotron Centre was built five years ago to NHL specs to replace the old Colisée de Québec (later known as Colisée de Pepsi at the end of its heyday). In Houston, the fifth-largest television market, there is also a ready-made already built arena. For Hartford, nothing has been done to the XL Center (nee Hartford Civic Center) in 25 years except for cosmetics to the concourse, a couple of Zambonis, and a new floor, ice, and chiller system. This same source opined about the speculation surrounding any possible moves from Arizona. "You can write this in stone and send it up the hill with Moses. There will NEVER be another NHL team in Quebec City again because of the currency problem, the ongoing language issue (in the province), and the Montreal Canadiens veto power over it. However, they want to extend their brand. They have an AHL team in Laval and an ECHL team in Trois-Rivieres 40 minutes away, halfway to Quebec City. "Hartford? Ha! They can't even get a new building in the twenty-plus years for an AHL team. "Houston will remain in reserve for a new team and say an $800 million dollar payday. Look there have been two expansions and they're still on the outside." HARTFORD WOLF PACK HOME Read the full article

CANTLON'S CORNER: HERE'S WHAT'S HAPPENING
Tumblr media
BY: Gerry Cantlon, Howlings HARTFORD, CT - It's the most thrilling time to be a hockey fan as the sport moves on to it's final series. STANLEY CUP FINALS It's amazing that the Las Vegas Golden Knights have made it to the championship round in their first year. The final starts on Monday night, Memorial Day, in Las Vegas and the Golden Knights have lots of connection to Connecticut. Ex-Hartford Wolf Pack and NY Ranger, Jonathan Marchessault, has been playing at a Conn Smythe level. Marchie's linemate, Reilly Smith, the younger brother of current Ranger and Wolf Pack, Brendan Smith, has as well. One of Gerard Gallant’s assistant coaches is another former Wolf Pack. He was the team's head coach, Ryan McGill. Former Hartford Whaler, Jim McKenzie, is a team scout while ex-Whaler, Murray Craven, is a Senior VP Special Advisor. The LVGK's opponents will be the Washington Capitals. They knocked off the Tampa Bay Lightning in seven games. The series loss ended the Stanley Cup dreams and that of ex-Pack and Rangers Ryan Callahan, J.T. Miller, Dan Girardi, and Ryan McDonaugh. The Caps have Connecticut connections as well. Lane Lambert is a former New Haven Nighthawks player and Bridgeport Sound Tiger head coach. He is one of the team's assistant coaches. Caps. GM/Senior VP is former New Haven Nighthawk in Brian McClellan and his Nighthawk teammate and a former Ranger, Steve Richmond, is the Director of Player Development.  AHL CALDER CUP FINAL In the West, the Texas Stars had a stranglehold on their series with the Rockford IceHogs, three games to none. The Stars feature ex-Pack, Mike Paliotta, and a pair of ex-Sound Tigers in Matt Mangene, and Colin Markison. Former Yale Bulldog John Hayden has two goals in the series for Rockford as they have rallied to narrow the series to three-games-to-two after a 3-1 win Friday night. Game 6 is a Monday night holiday contest in Texas coming in the midst of one those nasty Texas heat waves with everyday in the mid-90’s or better. The puck drops at 7 pm CST. The Toronto Marlies swept the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in four straight. They won Game 4 by the count of 3-1. Lehigh Valley tied the game at one when Wethersfield Colin McDonald, the Phantoms captain, fired a pass from the left wing goal line to Travis Sanheim who was coming off the right point. He beat an otherwise spectacular Garret Sparks to the far side. Andreas Johansson scored twice for Toronto who held the Phantoms shots over two games. Alex Lyon, the former Yale goalie, had one of the saves of the year to keep the game tied late in the second. Lyon was down and out and instinctively put up his right pad while lying face down, robbing Johansson. The Phantoms were shut down by Toronto as they were held to just 36 shots on goal total over the last two games. The Marlies won all six meetings this year with Lehigh Valley the only other team to do that - the Hartford Wolf Pack. The Marlies won the first three games in Toronto before the series shifted to Lehigh Valley. Ben Smith (Avon/Westminster Prep) scored twice in a 5-0 shutout of the Phantoms in Game 3. Lyon received what probably was the first goalie match penalty in over 20 years using his skate on a Marlies player. ECHL KELLY CUP FINALS The Colorado Eagles have one more chance at the title. They will defend their title in their last ECHL series as they will be upgraded next year to the AHL to be the top affiliate for the Colorado Avalanche. The Eagles will tango with the Florida Everblades. Colorado features ex-Pack, Michael Joly, and their assistant coach is ex-Pack Ryan Tobler. Florida has former Yale defenseman Gus Young and Kent Prep school teammate of Boo Nieves in Logan Roe. The Eagles won Game 1 Friday by a 3-1 score with Drayson Bowman getting a goal and an assist in a very chippy game that featured 96 PM, in the last 2:48 of the contest. Game 2 is Sunday night at 7 pm MST.  MEMORIAL CUP TOURNAMENT The host Regina Pats who haven’t played in six weeks (46 days) are playing for the Memorial Cup title Regina plays Acadie Bathurst Sunday night at 8 pm (NHL Network) to try to win the 100th edition of the Memorial Cup. The pursuit of the title comes after knocking off Hamilton 4-2 in the tournament semifinal Friday night who were considered the best team in the tournament Sam Steel, who been electric in the tournament, scored the game winner in the third and set up the empty net insurance goal before a home crowd. Steel was the first round pick of the Anaheim Ducks in last year's draft. He went 30th overall. To get to the semi-finals, the Pats won one of the wildest hockey games ever seen on Wednesday, 6-5, eliminating their fellow Saskatchewan-based WHL team, the Swift Current Broncos. The game was 1-0 midway through the contest where the teams combined for 10 goals over the final 30 minutes. The game winning goal came off the stick of Ranger prospect, Libor Hajek. The future Ranger defenseman came off the left point, took Steel’s cross ice pass and wired it over the glove of the Broncos' Stuart Skinner to make it 6-4. It was Steel’s fifth assist of the game tying a Memorial Cup record for helpers in a game. The Broncos almost tied with a tenth of a second left on the clock. After the puck had exited the Regina zone, the Broncos' Jake Leschyshyn fired the puck at the net. Pats goalie Cam Paddock went out to celebrate the win. The puck went into the net and on the video replay it showed a mere 1/10 of second left, but two Broncos were in the zone made it an offside play. The highly favored Acadie-Bathurst Titan won their first game of the round robin tournament in exciting fashion. They took the game 4-3 in overtime as two of the smallest markets in Canadian major junior hockey battled. Bathurst, New Brunswick has a population of 14,000 and is one of the most bi-lingual parts of Northern New Brunswick which borders Quebec. The winning goal came off the stick of one-time Avon Old Farms Winged Beavers, Liam Murphy (Killingworth, CT) also a Hartford Jr. Wolf Pack alumni, knocked in a goal mouth scramble for the winner, 2:36 into the extra session. Murphy was at one time a UConn commit four years ago and last season was a minus-60 with Moncton. This year he's a plus-nine in the regular season and in the Memorial Cup. Then last Sunday, Acadie-Bathurst, in their great red and gold uniforms, won 7-2 over Regina. The team had to hold for dear life as the Pats roared back in the third period with four goals to make the score 7-6 before an empty netter ended their dreams of a miraculous comeback. Hamilton Bulldogs executed some strong defensive hockey in holding off Acadie-Bathurst with a 3-2 on Tuesday night. Regina kicked off the opening game with a goal with 28.2 seconds left to beat the Hamilton Bulldogs 3-2. The Pats are led by former Pack coach John Paddock and have Hajeck, who was acquired in the McDonaugh-Miller Tampa Bay trade. He will be in Wolf Pack camp in the fall. Also on the roster is Jonas Harkins, youngest son of former Whaler, Todd Harkins, and Leschyshyn, the son of former Whaler, Curtis Leschyshyn. Paddock also is coaching his nephew Max Paddock as one of his goalies. The OHL announced its All-Star teams and ex-Pack, Drew Bannister (Saulte Ste. Marie Greyhounds) was voted first team head coach. USHL CLARK CUP FINAL For the third consecutive year, a brand new, first-time champion is crowned in the USHL. The Fargo (ND) Force captured the Clark Cup title winning Game 4 of the best of five series 4-2 over the Youngstown (OH) Phantoms. Goalie Strauss Mann (Greenwich/Brunswick Prep) stopped 26 of 28 shots to pace the victory a 2019 Michigan (Big 10) commit netminder. Youngstown featured captain Eric Esposito (West Haven/Loomis Chaffe-Windsor) who starts at the University of New Hampshire (HE) in the fall.  WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS It came down to a couple of ex-Sound Tigers. Sweden copped its second consecutive title and 3rd World Championship gold in five years with a 3-2 shootout win over Switzerland who earned the silver medal. The building in Copenhagen,Denmark was packed with Swedish fans since the border between the two countries is just 15 minutes away. Goalie Anders Nilsson sealed the victory stopping Nino Neidereitter in the fifth round with a pad save. Joining the gold medal parade was his teammate and goaltending battery mate ex-Pack, Magnus Hellberg, and current Wolf Pack and Ranger, Lias Andersson, who didn’t chuck his gold medal into the crowd as he did with his silver medal for Sweden at the WJC tournament in January in Buffalo. For Andersson, it ended an exceptionally long season on a high note. He was at the Rangers post draft development camp in Westchester, NY, then traveled to Sweden’s WJC camp in July, played at the WJC Showcase tourney in Plymouth, Michigan. Andersson was at the Traverse City, MI Prospects tournament, then to Rangers main training camp at MSG by mid-September. Then as a last cut was returned to Frolunda HC of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) in Gothenburg, Sweden. His next move was to Sweden’s main WJC camp held in Montreal and to Buffalo for the WJC tournament. After suffering a shoulder injury, Andersson was reassigned to Hartford where he played 24 games. He followed that with four games with the Rangers at the end of the season scoring his first NHL goal with his family present at MSG. Andersson then came back to Hartford and was assigned on the final weekend of the regular season for the Wolf Pack to the Swedish national team where he played at the European Hockey tournament (EHT). He was then off to the World championship camp and concluding his whirlwind season in Copenhagen and Herning Denmark the last two weeks. Raphael Diaz, the Swiss team captain, now sprouting some gray hair, in his red number 16 jersey led the Swiss players in accepting their silver medals and silver trophy. Next spring’s World Championship will be placed in Slovakia in the city of Kosice where the US and Canada will be in group A and in the Slovakia’s second largest city Bratislava which where the Group B games will be played. The US redeemed itself winning the bronze medal 4-1 over Canada as ex-CT Whale and current Ranger, Chris Kreider had two goals, Farmington’s Nick Bonino scored the game winner with a backhander in front of the net and ex-Sound Tiger Anders Lee tallied a goal in the victory.
