Riley Guava is a pretty interesting figure that I think quite precisely marks a very specific moment in pop culture. There are a few others—Olivia Casta comes to mind as well. These are girls who have created large amounts of buzz on the internet around the question of how real they are. Are they real at all? Are they artificially created? Are they based on a real person and just altered in some way? Are they a combination of people? There are theories that Riley Guava is completely manufactured—not a real person at all. And yet, she's been around for a while, so if she's basically AI then she's one of the earliest examples of super-convincing AI. A year from now, debates about whether a girl is real or not or anything like that won't likely be a thing because frankly nobody will know anymore lol. It's a mildly terrifying thing to contemplate, and I honestly don't think humanity is set up at all to deal with this well. But it seems inevitable, and something I'll likely be adjusting my stance on daily, as I further understand the implications and impacts. For now tho, I have to admit that whatever it may or may not be, this photo of Riley Guava is very striking and memorable, and feels like it could be a bit historic one day, so I'm making a poster of it for archival purposes. Ya, that's why. Today's girlcrushart guardian is Riley Guava.

So Riley Guava is not a real person then? Got it. Hope Svenja van den Bogaart, Ana Dias, and Playboy feel okay about their pics being stolen and photoshopped…
