I finished warping up the loom yesterday. Now it’s time for my favorite part: trying out the combination of warp and weft yarns, fibers, and in this case - recycled silk that I cut into ribbons. I love this part because I start to see how the combination is actually going to look. It may not be quite what I expected or wanted, or it might be so much better! Either way, it’s a fun stage of the weaving process! 🌏 I’ve been saving hand dyed silk for ages. I dyed up a bunch a few years back and it turned out glorious, but then I kept saving it for a very special project. Well... I really don’t need a stash of things that are too special to use, so now is the time, baby! Now is the time!! 🌏 I also had a whole bunch of men’s silk neckties for another project I was planning years ago - so I dove into that collection and pulled out all the pretty ones and took them apart and cut up the silk. I will donate all the polyester ones and the ones in colors I don’t like back to a thrift store when I get the chance. I wonder if the thrift stores will be flattened by piles of donations since we’ve all had time to clean out the closets during this quarantine? 🌏 I’m trying to work my way through some of my stash these days... to own less. That’s not easy since I am so good at collecting things that seem to have potential, but I need to try. I have way too much stuff for a #Tinyhouse person!! So these days I talk to myself about turning the best bits into interesting slow fashion items for my capsule wardrobe. It’s an interesting process, and with enough quarantine time, I could make a whole new wardrobe! LOL! Nope.
