Video

Taking the freshly woven cloth off the loom is so much fun. It’s usually the first time I get to look at the whole cloth, and not just the portion I’m weaving. I really like this one! It has more than a dozen different color yarns in it, and the cloth has interest and complexity. I wove some black and white stripes, and then one block of fuchsia to green, a green band to separate (it is good to allow seam allowances so you don’t lose something lovely in the edges when you cut it up to use it) and then from green back to fuchsia. ⚜️ Time to felt this baby and see how the cloth changes. I am already thinking about what I can sew from this cloth! Yummy yummy! Video

This is the process of threading all that yarn through the tiny holes in the loom heddle. It’s tedious to be sure, but it’s also satisfying because it is so tactile, visual and clear. Not like working with people - LOL! There will be no weaving unless the warping is done, so it’s all a part of the process. All of this yarn is cotton with a few hand dyed exceptions that are probably cashmere or baby alpaca or something crazy soft like that. I’m going to be weaving with silk and avoiding wool so that it doesn’t felt up when/if it is ever washed. I’m thinking it will be a garment eventually, so washing is expected. I am hoping that the high cotton and silk content will make it comfortable to wear in summer, but we shall see. I’ve got 12 shuttles in play and this cloth is my favorite so far! 🦚 Peacock cloth for the win! Talk about #slowcloth ...this might take a while and that’s ok. It’ll be worth the wait! #colorfultweed ⚜️ I’ve got some gorgeous silk and cashmere in here with the wool. That worked out beautifully on the last one I wove, so I even went for the mulberry silk this time... you know, the yarn you hoard because it’s just Soooo... yeah, that’s in there! And because of the wool, it will all catch hands and become a whole instead of a bunch of bits. It’ll become cloth instead of just a bunch of yarn. It ceases to be individual... that’s the magic of wool. That makes it a lot more fun to use in sewing projects later because woven cloth frays, but felted cloth doesn’t. And just a bit of wool in the mix is enough to make it all come together. Wool is love, people. We need more wool in the mix! Wool is love, it’s what brings us together. Help! I’m trying to make up my mind between several good ideas on how to makeover this small chest of drawers. Swipe to look at the mock ups and vote for the one you like best. I got this narrow chest of drawers at an online estate auction recently and I intend to replace one of the pedestals in our little dining room with this for the additional storage space. And every element of my smart, sexy, small house lends itself to personal expression! 💜💙💚 ⚜️ A - decoupage hand marbled paper on to the drawers, and then paint the case with one of the colors in the paper: orange, hot pink, or dove gray.🦩🍊🕊 ⚜️ B Paint the drawers in different colors inspired by the painting by @fibermania and then paint the case in butter yellow. 🍋🎨🧀 ⚜️ C decoupage the drawers in the blue, turquoise and fuchsia wrapping paper, then paint the case in a coordinating color, probably the fuchsia. 🦄🦚🌸 ⚜️ Believe it or not, each of these options would go nicely in my dining room.
