task 004;  family trees

students !  it’s time for a new homework assignment. i know, i know, it’s summer. but this is an assignment that will help us all get to know you better before we enter the fall semester !!  we encourage you to complete this task before summer vacation ends, but there is no formal due date.

we ask you to create a family tree post for your muse. list as many or as little family members as you want. we suggest at least doing your muse’s immediate family  ( siblings, parents, step parents, anyone who essentially raised your muse, etc. )   you can make the post look however you want. you can create graphics, use templates, post gifs or photos, make a list, etc. it’s your muse and up to you. we encourage finding celebrities who fit the ethnicity of your muse’s family and using them as npc fcs !  it doesn’t matter if multiple characters use the same family fcs ... it’s all just for fun to get you thinking about your muse’s family tree, so don’t worry about that. 

once your family trees are complete, post and tag them with the tag #seastask.

hello sweet members <3

it is with an exhausted and very humble i heart, i have to announce that cris and i have decided to convert seas into a closed rp for the foreseeable future. essentially, this will mean that the main will not be updated for the time being, we will not accept new members or address questions, and there will no longer be activity checks. there are many of us in this group who are still deeply invested in our muses and in the rp, so you may continue to write here with each other for as long as you wish. 

there IS a big chance that i will take on more help in the admin team and do a revamp of seas within the coming weeks or months, but after 7+ fantastic months of writing with you beautiful humans, we have to make this decision for the immediate future.

cris has essentially had to step away from the rp in recent weeks, and i have taken on much longer hours at work as covid restrictions ended here. additionally, i have some musician friends and i have accepted part time work helping them at their gigs and organizing for them. it’s really rewarding and exciting work, but i have to be honest with myself and acknowledge that my current schedule does not leave me with the time required to run seas, and enough creative energy to give it the love and attention it  ( and you all )  truly deserve. 

seas has meant so much to so many people, and i am extremely grateful and proud of what each and every one of you has helped build here over all these months. several people have told me that this was a safe space, a place of mental healing, an environment that revived their love for writing and/or rp, etc. for me, it has been a safe haven during some of the darkest periods of loss in my life. the characters and stories we have all helped to write here, and the relationships we have built here, have been intimately special.

i would love to keep up with you all and stay in contact moving forward, so i will post my discord in the ooc sideblog. please please add me and talk to me anytime <3 i’ll also contact yall if we do a revamp or reopen for apps and things.

even if life does not slow down and we dont do a revamp, i would be super open to doing reunion events on chatzy and random things in the future with yall. u can bet ur ass dean murphy is going to have an end of year bash lmaooo u cant get rid of him. river and dean murphy are forever embedded in my personal identity now, lol. i’m going to be stepping away for now but i will likely pop on to write from time to time when i can.

i love you all sooooo so so ooo sooooo much, and this really isn’t goodbye so please don’t freak out. we just need to do what we need to do for now. see you later. catch u soon. write with u in the future if you wish to continue here or return in the future.

Members, a couple important things. 

1) The majority of you are extremely welcoming, friendly, and inclusive. however, as with any rps that go on for more than just a few weeks, there is always going to be times when some members get a little too comfortable/lazy with their plotting and writing with others you don’t have developed relationships with. bubble rping is not allowed here, and we will reach out to specific members with warnings if this becomes a larger issue. if you don’t want to be in a group setting and write with a bunch of different muses, then indie rp is more suited for your muse. 

Please make sure you are plotting with new members (or at least offering a closed starter or replying to their open starter, if you go off of chem.) Also, know that this is a connections-based rp. Your student spot comes with pre-existing connections that you are not allowed to ignore. If someone ims you to plot those out, you are required to do so. that’s what makes this group so fun! Again, most of you do this and are very very inclusive. but we need to keeep that up and make sure we are at 100%. 

2) Patience + hiatuses! Remember that nia and I are adults with full jobs and lives and busy schedules. we never ever reject a hiatus request from a member (please dont be afraid to ask for one!) and we ask that you please have the same patience with us when we need it. be patient with other members, too. Remember that your health, both physical and mental, does not mean you are not a valued member of the group and you are always welcome here when you return after taking the time you need. there is an unrealistic expectation in the rpc for members and admins that they have to be online every single day or that they can’t take a week off when it is needed. that’s so toxic and our rp will always be a safe space/not follow that mindset. 

3) Love you all! have fun with the halloween event(s) over the next few days. students will return to ship by the end of tomorrow, so starters after then will need to take place on the ship.

i can't help but notice that there are a few members who are mostly exclusive to western fcs only.

Members, if you are doing this shit that is absolutely not ok. our rp has always been a welcoming group to all fcs, both western and non western, and if you are ignoring non western fcs when playing a western fc, or ignoring western fcs when playing a non western fc, stop right now. every member should be replying to everybody regardless of fc and whether they are popular or not. consider this a warning and don't let it become a trend. we have never had a divide between groups of fcs and we aren't going to allow that now either. Nia and I try so hard to make this group extremely inclusive and our members have been really awesome in doing that up until now, too. please don’t allow that to change because that destroys rps. like to acknowledge you understand this post once read.

NEW RULE ADDITION:  we will no longer allow group chats on the dashboard in the form of text threads.  you may continue to have one on one text threads, but be certain to also have gif threads as well. 

REMINDER:  ic group chats or ic writing on discord is forbidden here and considered a major rule violation.  i don’t think any if our members are doing this, but it’s always a good reminder just in case. 

2ND REMINDER:  you are required to cut replies here.  exceptions are made for those who are on semi-hiatus, temporarily mobile, and have imed us to let us know.

INFORMATION REGARDING THE NEW SEMESTER ....

students will be returning from summer break on FRIDAY, AUGUST 27TH. all students must be back on the ss university ship by the end of that day. you may continue your event threads as long as you want, but all new starters must take place back on the ship. 

new roommates will be assigned and students will be moving cabins. roommates will be completely randomized to ensure new connections are formed; we will not take roommate requests. however, if your muse has a current roommate on the cabin page and you both agree you want to stay roommates, please im us on the main and let us know. we don’t want to mess up any roommate plots that you all currently enjoy and want to stick with. 

if you have any changes to your muse such as a change in academic major, feel free to im us and let us know !  

finally, we are planning a new page for the main with more school-specific things. we want to incorporate the grades students made on their final exams on this page, so we will be creating grade point averages for your muses based on those exam scores. pls check the final exam results post to make sure you are ok with your student’s grades. if your student wasnt here at that time, im us the grades you want your student to have received on their final exam or we will randomize it. 

on the upcoming school-specific page, we are going to add more things in the future, including mini events  ( like the watermelon smashing and free juices during final exams )  to help give you more stuff to write about. more on that later !

one of the things i have always loved so much about our rp is how welcoming and friendly it is. however, i have noticed in the last week or two that posts on the ooc sideblog are going without many likes or replies, whether it be intros, simple hellos, or talk about plots or life in general from members who have been here a while. this lack of interaction can easily be interpreted as unfriendly or intimating, so please correct this quickly. i know that many people are under a lot of strain with their jobs, school, and life right now, but this simple act can be the difference in someone staying or leaving our rp.

we want to fix this before it becomes an issue: let’s keep the same very welcoming attitude we have had since the beginning. make sure to like intros both on the ooc sideblog and muse intros on the dash, interact on the ooc sideblog when you see posts, and plot things with new members. pls don’t assume that new members will come to you for plots — many people are intimidated by established groups. try going to them when you are able. thank you !!

annnddddd, with excitement, i’m ready to announce that fall semester roommates have been posted !!  

please check to see who your muse(s) new roommates are and which cabin your muse now lives in. students are moving into these rooms today. if any student is missing from the list, paired with a student played by the same mun, or does not have the roommate you requested to stay with, please let us know asap so that we can get it fixed. the entire list was completely randomized in order to form new connections for yall !  some people do not have roommates yet because we are going to be putting new members who join in their cabin.

Event update !!  The surprise has now been revealed: 

after filling out the student survey, university administration compared results and placed students in pairs with the student that most matches their answers, values, interests and worldview. those students were told to wear the same color to the event. once it began, students were tied together at the ankle with nautical rope with a lock for a three legged race. after kai and noah won the race, dean murphy announced that the student they are tied to is their student soulmate for the fall semester. in an effort to have students bond, it was announced that students will remain tied together at the ankle throughout the night. ignore the obvious issues with this such as using the bathroom. for the sake of rp, suspend your disbelief for this event. at 8am, students can drop by the front desk and receive the key that will unlock their rope. 

for anyone who wants to receive a student pair and participate in this twist/write threads about it/etc., but could not make it to the event, you may now fill out the fall survey. we will look for responses over the next day and pair people together via im. <3

task 002; character playlists

students !  it’s time for your second homework assignment. we ask you to create a music playlist that describes you, your personality, things you like, and aesthetics. you may do this however you’d like. for example, making a playlist on apple music or spotify and screenshotting it in a post. another example would be to link to youtube videos of the songs. finally, another way of doing it would be to create a graphic with the album art and link to the songs. have fun with this task and do whatever you want with it !  the only requirement we have is to include at least 8 songs. once your playlist is complete, tag them with the tag #seastask.

alright friends, so after a lot of thinking, we have decided that students will be returning back to ship tonight at midnight pst. keep in mind that you do NOT have to end your event threads if you don’t want to !!  our only rule when events end is that no new starters based in that destination can be posted. meaning, you can continue your LA threads as long as you want. however, all NEW starters posted after midnight must take place on the ship. 

we have had a big influx of new members  ( which is awesome, and lurkers come join the newbie group !  we would so love to have you, )  and we want to give them a chance to experience ship life and get into the normal swing of things. newbies, we encourage you to post starters today if you want to experience any more of the LA event, because they can still be replied to indefinitely. you’re also encouraged to post new starters based back on ss university once the event ends.

i will be making another post about this later, but students will be having FINAL EXAMS starting on monday next week. we plan to do a couple fun things with this, so keep an eye on the main. exams will last from monday through friday next week, so that should give you plenty of fun material to work with for threads. these are finals for the spring semester; after this we are going to have a summer vacation event that lasts 2-3 weeks in August and we will explain it more when the time comes.

students !  it’s time for your first homework assignment. we ask you to create a moodboard that describes you, your personality, things you like, and aesthetics. whether you want to upload 9 photos/gifs in a grid  ( example, example, example, example )  or create and edit a graphic  ( example, example )  we ask that you include 9 images/gifs. these can include photos of yourself. you can make and post as many moodboards as you want. tag them with the tag #seastask. 

if you need help or inspiration, we suggest searching ‘character moodboard, moodboard gifs, aesthetic icons, goth/soft/indie/fashion/messy/kawaii/cute/etc icons, character aesthetics’ or anything along those lines.

Hi, couple quick important things! 

make sure you are tagging nsfw posts as nsfw. smut should be under a read more, but once it’s under there we don’t care if it is tagged. however, nsfw posts like photos and musing items need to be tagged as nsfw. i don’t care if they aren’t naked. think about sitting at school or work. if you would get in trouble if your professor or boss was standing behind you and saw what is on your screen, tag it as nsfw. 

we just updated all of our pages but for a while it got very confusing with a bunch of new muses and nia and i both being busy irl too. please check our cabins and info page to check and see if your muse is listed. you can use ctrl + f to search your muse’s name quickly. if they aren’t, just message or im us and we will get it fixed. thank you!

please like this post once read! it will help us keep track of who still needs attention.

How would our members feel about a seas musing blog? This is something near and dear to me and nia because we have been running a musing blog together for years. our seas one would be a sideblog where we post or reblog seas university-specific inspiration for destinations, ship things, student things, and more. Members could submit stuff to post by either the submit button or linking us to posts in ims. we would just let it run on a queue. It could be fun and helpful. If this is something members would like, we can make it today!
