lips parted with a soft sigh as she lay on her side in the bed that was Leonard's room but he'd moved out of the apartment a few weeks ago when sheldon had told her he wanted to help her raised her baby, even though it wasn't his nor was it his responsibility. many people had said sheldon wasn't a nice person, but she'd argue otherwise. this man, who had rarely shown emotion and didn't like stupid people, had said he WANTED to raise this baby with her. it was out of character, but it made her realize that sheldon really had to care — right? he wouldn't do something out of pity...right?

they'd gone to her sonogram appointment together that day, just to make sure the baby was okay since she hadn't visited since she found out. it'd only been a few weeks, but still. they'd seen the baby appear in black and white, the image grainy but they could clearly see the little person in her womb. sheldon had looked delighted but all of these fears began to whirl through her mind and she couldn't shake them away.

as soon as they'd gotten home, she'd retreated to her room and locked the door so that she could be alone. it was rare she shut him out but her fears were closing in and she needed to try to work through it herself. figure out a plan on what to do IF he DID change his mind. eventually, some hours had passed and she'd gotten up to go to the bathroom before retreating back to her room and shutting the door, though the lock was never latched.

she curled back up on the bad, her back facing the door as she struggled to fight off the tears threatening to fall. the door creaking alerted her to his presence, and she felt her body tense but she didn't roll to face him. ❛ what do you need, sheldon? ❜ not SHELLY this time, not when her heart felt like it was breaking at the thought of him not going through with his promise to her, even if she'd known him all their lives it seemed.

she wouldn't blame him if he did change his mind, because this baby wasn't his responsibility. he didn't need to be attached to her and a baby he didn't help make. he'd never want her and that's what tore and clawed at her.

ever since that confrontation in her living room, where isaac had laid out the truth about his feelings for her, serefine had been quiet. it wasn't that she didn't feel the same way for him, but the witch was beyond terrified to allow him into her heart for fear that he'd break it. serefine wasn't so sure that she could survive another broken heart, having suffered one too many times on that front. eventually, she ended up letting him come over and they'd been watching tv when his words rang in her ears. her gaze then dropped to her lap as she couldn't find it in herself to look him in the eye. the woman knew she was the one causing this hurt, putting this wall up between them to keep herself protected. her intentions had never been to cause him hurt, she was merely trying to shield herself from more pain in the long run. this man scared her with the intensity in which he made her feel. "I'm sorry, Isaac." because she was, she was sorry for the pain lingering between them but she wasn't sure how to bring that wall down and seek the warmth he always held. "i don't know how...I didn't mean to..."

since derek had given her the gift of her shop, serefine had been fussing over getting it ready for opening. they'd already had the pack in there, helping with the painting and furniture assembly. today, she needed to get some things organized and maybe on the shelves. she managed to recruit derek into helping. the duo had become closer after their date, serefine beyond happy. but she also decided to be a little brat and tease derek but dressing cute. just because they were supposed to work didn't mean she couldn't look cute doing it?

faded plaid mini skirt, a black MCR shirt and chunky black boots is what she chose to wear today. her blonde waves tied back in a sleek ponytail. she would have to thank lydia at some point for helping her enhance her wardrobe. she always picked clothes for serefine that she actually liked, but were in fashion. and derek always seemed to enjoy the new additions.

"c'mon derek, i wanna get going," she walked downstairs, giving a smile to isaac and stiles who sat on the couch. walking past the beta, she affectionately ran her fingers through his curls before moving on to squeeze stiles' shoulder in affection. her gaze drifted, looking for the man that made her a better version of herself. "derek," there was a slight wine to her voice, lips pouting.

Overall:

-     The whole time I was reading this book I felt like I was missing something.  Like I felt 3 steps behind the story at all times, and not in a good way.  It felt like I missed a lot of information that was supposed to help you understand the whole book.  I also found the dialog to be overly complicated a lot of the times. Like the characters were either talking in circles or just having long winded monologues that were unnecessary.  I did feel like the relationship between Nadya and Malachiasz was very similar to Alina and the Darkling.  But I have a feeling that it will eventually turn out different for them.  I’m hoping that the second book in this series makes a little more sense than this one.  Maybe I won't feel so out of place because it'll be the second in the series and I should know what's going on.
