It’s definitely one that works, just can hurt a little bit making that pinch with my bony fingers—shooting glove makes it easier. So I extend the thumb to hold the nocks down (the muscle and bone structure in my thumbs is messed up as I’ve grown ‘cause of my EDS—the first digit makes a 90 degree angle just making a thumbs-up) and the forefinger is already up over the odd feather. So for me it’s tricky to decide which to use. Have to keep testing I guess

Don’t just aim for a target face. Contrary to popular belief it’s actually easier to aim/hone your focus on something three dimensional and shoot at that instead of a two dimensional picture. So once you’ve landed your first successful arrow, use that. Or you can take some thing like a cup and pin the bottom of it to your target face and aim for the inside of the cup. Or you can put bottles and cans on a fence and shoot at them. Things like that

“Aim small, miss small.”
I grabbed this arrow that was in our trash bin (the shaft was broken so I pulled the nock out to save), jammed it into the ground like a stake and shot downhill directly at it. Mostly the closest I could hit was where the fletching would rub it, I only heard that CLACK of hitting it—grazing it, no damage—once. One my last three arrows I changed my grip on the third one so that the thumb and forefinger were out and not tensed. I shot that last arrow and then SNAP! Broke the useless arrow in half. Luckily there’s enough left where I can try the same thing again. It’ll just be shorter.

July 14th, 2020. I draw back to bowstring so that my curled middle finger touches the point of my jaw (not underneath it) while the index finger holds the arrow against the right side of the bow. I release cleanly, both hands still, having better control with my back and shoulder muscles in play. That’s a detail that a lot of beginner archers don’t think about and then it has a ripple effect. You need to know from the beginning to use your shoulders, not rely on your arms to do all the work because otherwise you’ll mess up your shots

Let’s face it I’m not exactly Howard Hill. I was trying to hit the bottle but instead I hit the first arrow’s shaft directly and split it like a twig—just a sliver of that outer layer holding the two pieces together. Those were my last two of the repaired/replacement arrows still intact so I better start using the yellow ones that I haven’t tried out yet.
Those yellow-fletched ones make me think Green Arrow and the Canaries, like he goes armed with “canary arrows” in his quiver or something.

Shot through the container and off the railing and look! Still two arrows left in my hand. I shot those two kneeling down with the bow tilted to the right

That’s the distance (15 yards, give or take) and my first attempt groupings with the Slavic draw, middle and ring fingers anchored at the point of the jaw for added power.
I cut the palm side off of my old shooting glove a while back so that the nocks wouldn’t get caught in it and hinder any successive shooting. It’s not as heavily layered as my newer one so it should help build up the muscles in my fingers and thus exercise self-control on the release.

I shot this arrow and then shot my second arrow directly at it and broke the nock. Just replaced it with one of the spares; spares from the dozens of other arrows I’ve broken over the last few years

“Trick shooting is fun 😊🏹”
Shot one of my new arrows into the coffee container and carried it through the air (Also, new rule I’ve set; for the sake of not breaking more arrows with my style of trick shooting, if I can penetrate the plastic with one arrow then that’s the “kill shot” from now on, don’t need to pincushion it).
That fourth picture, first try in another “3 arrows 3 chances” round. Went all the way through to the fletches, held the coffee container up.

PUNCH!
Quite a few times my arrow would hit the target and poke out the other side. This time I wasn’t pulling back to the point of my jaw. My goal is speed shooting and I can’t risk overdrawing and getting the arrows stuck in the bow (again). I used the middle and ring fingers right behind the corner of my mouth, easier to aim and gauge distance/elevation that way. Back straight, shoulder blades pushed together, elbow raised properly, both hands static on the release, and still able to get the full length of the arrow 🏹 Impact. That’s what you want from shooting a bow and arrow, to deliver hard impact, to make it PUNCH your target

(Wouldn’t upload the video with the pictures at the same time)
Speed loading test with the Slavic draw without drawing back of course since I’m inside right now. So far so good I think. People can say what they want about the 2018 Robin Hood but look at my pictures/groupings to see what the film and behind-the-scenes taught me how to do!
The thumb goes to the base where the first two fingers meet, keep the tight pinch and it separates the extra arrows from the first one nocked

Let’s face it, Gatorade bottles are way stiff and they’re not exactly flat. Only a precise shot with a ton of impact will pin it. It took a bunch of tries to actually puncture it. A few times I missed just by a few inches (so I’d have to go all across the yard and back to get my arrows) or I would hit it and the bottle would just bounce off and the arrow would deflect. Now, something to be said about marksmanship practice when you end up sending one arrow right through another one splintering it. I also tried setting the bottle on its side to shoot an arrow into it—through the lid. But I couldn’t do it, unfortunately, so I put it on top of my target rig, tried shooting toward it however many times, and then finally knocked it off. The arrow went through and dragged the bottle to the lawn with it

The first arrow knocked it off the corner of the railing there (if you look close you can see it in the grass). I went down to the ground and the second arrow went through and shoved the bottle down the first arrow shaft. The third one I had to try again but succeeded in breaking the top of the bottle.

Maybe this will be my “ritual” whenever I finish a water bottle or Gatorade bottle I’ll just shoot at it before throwing it in the recyclable bin LOL
Remember- only a direct and precise shot will pin the bottle. Plus, the way two eyes and brain work together, it’s easier to hit something three-dimensional as opposed to a flat target face. I only half-close my left one just enough so I’m not seeing two arrows (because of the difference between both eyes)

With that third arrow in the middle, I was barely aiming at all. I just walked away from the target, turned around and took the shot. In all honesty, if you’re trying to reach that goal of shooting an arrow per second or two arrows per second, how much time do you have to aim? Trick question. You don’t. You’re mainly focusing on the target and where your bow is pointing, so you have to rely on instinct when it comes to speed shooting. It’s the kind of thing that requires more training but it’s totally worth it when you get tight grouping like this. #arrow #hawkeye #saracenarchery #arabarchery #speedshooting #bambooarrow #targetpractice #archerylifestyle #slavicdraw I modified my shooting glove too, taking some good advice for the sake of dexterity when holding extra arrows in the draw hand https://www.instagram.com/p/CcGVSN_rGuO/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
