Minecraft Snapshot 21w06a
Hello, new snapshot! Hallo, new cave generation!
Today's snapshot introduces a major change in the way caves are generated within Minecraft. You could say that we're now introducing the cave portion of Caves & Cliffs.
This is only the first step in our underground journey, so it is important to note that snapshots depict features in the early stages of development. There are two important caveats to this snapshot:
Old worlds will not be accessible in this snapshot, as there is no upgrade route to the new world's height. All caves in the period y31-y63 will be flooded.
21w06a New Features
- Acoustic caves and aquifers were added
Noise caves and Aquifers
Noise caves are a brand new method of creating caves that offer more natural diversity. They can be quite large sometimes! There are two kinds of noise caves such as cheese caves and cheese caves. Like the holes in Swiss cheese. They are often caverns of different sizes. - Spaghetti caves. Long squiggly tunnels, sometimes wide like tagliatelle. INFO
Changes in 21w06a
- Overworld build and generation limitations have been widened - Mineshafts adapted to larger caves - You can no longer crouch or jump to stop a large dripleaf from tipping - A big dripleaf will now slide rather than break when struck by a projectile - A redstone powered big dripleaf won't tilt (except when hit by a projectile) - The textures of hanging roots and small dripleaves have been updated
- The generation range and build limits were widened by 64 blocks and 64 blocks, respectively, for the total of 384 blocks. Underground features, structures, and caves generate all the way to the level of y -64.
Mineshaft changes
Mineshaft pieces can't produce the same effect if they were floating in the air. Mineshaft corridors are anchored by log pillars when needed - No floating cobwebs
Fixed bugs in 21w06a
MC-214346: Big dripleaf could easily be broken with an arrow in the spawn protection MC-213813. Small dripleaf is capable to destroy any block

The snapshot today introduces a significant modification to the way caves are generated in Minecraft. We're now introducing the cave portion of Caves & Cliffs.
This is just the first step in our underground adventure. Please be aware that snapshots may include features that are not yet in development. Also there are two important cautions about this snapshot:
Old worlds won't be accessible in this snapshot since there is no upgrade path to the new world's height. All caves in the period y31 and y63 will be inundated.
New Features in 21w06a
- Acoustic caves and aquifers are added
Noise caves and Aquifers

There are two types of noise caves that are called cheese caves and cheese caves. Similar to the holes found in Swiss cheese. These often form caverns of various sizes. - Spaghetti caves. Long , squiggly tunnels that are sometimes wide as Tagliatelle.
Changes in 21w06a
- Overworld build and generation limits have been expanded Mineshafts have been adapted to larger caves. You can no longer crouch or leap to prevent a big dripleaf from tilting - A big dripleaf will now be broken rather than tilt when struck by a projectile A big redstone-powered dripleaf will not sway (except when struck by projectiles) The textures of hanging roots and small dripleaves are updated

Found the stronghold! It spawned at a negative y (the new snapshot adds an extra 64 blocks to the top and bottom of the world, I presume they will reset y 0 to bedrock once the full patch comes out). I really hope that doesn’t mean they’ve got rid of high y strongholds, I always love making my portal rooms have direct access to the sky and that will be a pain if I have to dig through 64 blocks.
The structure itself was entirely intact, which is something I’ve never seen in one of my own worlds. usually there is at least one room that has a mineshaft or ravine through it, but this time it was one completely closed off structure.
Popping in to the End, the build limit is still 0 and 256 there, so no change! I to the nether and tested it there, no change either.
I’m probably not going to play any survival in this snapshot, I don’t want to burn myself out before the patch even goes live. But whilst I’ve got it loaded on my pc, anyone got anything they want me to test out/have a look at?

1.17 snapshot 21w06A is adding in edible dirt blocks? You take two dirt blocks and two sugar and it makes two edible dirt blocks. They look like regualr dirt but there are small specs of sugar in the grain. When eaten, it heals up three hunger ( 1 1/2 bars ), and has a high saturation, but there’s a 50% chance of getting nauseous from it. Edible dirt blocks can’t grow grass, mycelum, or podsol, it can’t turn into a snow block, and it can’t be pathed.

The Terrifying Cave Generation of Minecraft Snapshot 21w06a
The Terrifying Cave Generation of Minecraft Snapshot 21w06a
After a very long wait, we’ve finally gotten to the ‘caves’ part of the Caves and Cliffs snapshots. This is very exciting for Minecraft, since a cave update has been both teased and desired for years. While Minecraft’s original cave system is pretty cool, especially with canyons, Snapshot 21w06a threatens to completely demolish it. While only being the tip of the iceberg. 21w06a introduces the…

When I started a new minecraft survival world on 21w06a, I expected to abandon it within a week. The combination of the mooshroom island spawn and that amazing fishing rod convinced me to keep going a bit longer, and now I'm more committed to this world than I've ever been in any minecraft world before. Each time there's a major chunk generation change, I venture a little further from spawn, so I'll have chunks from most of the major snapshots since 21w06a. (I skipped the ironless one.)
so cool
