Why do people hate on the emoji movie jailbreak is literally not cis or straight (I like to hc her as a trans lesbian but I think we can agree nobody in their right mind will look at her and say ah yes a cisgender heterosexual character) and she's such a huge comfort character for me
SOOOOO TRUE
though to be fair, most of the hate is about how the emoji movie is a bland cooperate film filled with product placement and designed to make money. which is a fair thing to hate the movie for haha
but without that context, it's not that bad of a movie imo. the writing and many aspects of the plot could Definitely use improvement, but i really like the art direction in the movie! also it has jailbreak
what really got me interested in the emoji movie (other than just dance being in it since i'm a huge just dance fan...) is how it literally is a gay allegory! this screenshot is from an interview of the director of the emoji movie:
Tumblr media
the allegory was intentionally broadened (which imo is to the movie's detriment, since it gives the movie a generic, comfortable to the masses "be yourself message"), but it's gay origins are still there!
and that leads me to........
jailbreak is literally so not cishet!!! and it's not just how she looks... they literally act so lgbt
ik a lot of the few emoji movie fans like genebreak but honestly i don't see her being attracted to men (or gene specifically)
like.... look at this scene! jailbreak is so happy that gene wants to stay the way it is but gets so uncomfortable when he says it’s because he wants to be romantic partners with her
youtube
(the line "I'm not just some princess, Gene, waiting for my prince." has such a non cis and straight energy....)
i think she’s aromantic because i self-project but i also love the lesbian jailbreak headcanon
and gender? omg she is so transgender
i think jailbreak is transmasc nonbinary because it really fits with their backstory of being "born” as a princess emoji, hating it, and being forced to leave textopolis in order to dress and live the way she wants to. (and also her having a canonical, feminine deadname)
but this ask got me thinking of a transfem jailbreak interpretation that i also love? like imagine:
jailbreak was assigned to be a prince at birth, but HATED IT. she made a huge stink out of not wanting to be a boy so her parents went “ok fiiine you can be a princess instead” and she was like “aww yeah”. however, she soon found out that while she liked being a girl, she did not like the rigid gender+social norms and dress code of being a princess. still, she couldn’t complain too much or else her parents would be like “oh so you want to be a prince now? 🤨“
so she begrudgingly stays a princess until she leaves and starts expressing herself in the way she wants to and moral of the story is you don’t need to fit into traditional femininity to be a trans woman!
alright idk how to end this post. i have a lot of thoughts on the emoji movie and also jailbreak
tl;dr trans rights
