14 for the Soulcalibur ask?
14. What is your favorite stage?
It's hard to pick just one, so I'll do a small selection. I think what tends to factor into my favorite stages is, like, general atmosphere, nice lighting, good background music track, and an enclosed space/sense of scale -- feeling like you're high up is a bonus, and I tend to hate infinite scroll stages (they always feel kind of generic and boring to me). I also think I'm a bit biased toward SCII and SCIII stages because of the sheer amount of time I spent playing those games (their 1-player modes are quite extensive!).
Kaminoi Castle - Sakura-Dai Gate from Soulcalibur II:

I really like this stage. One of my favorite tracks from this game and I like the stone walls (that you can bounce off of). I like how open and high up this stage is and how you can fall off the edge. Also, the way this stage captures the lighting and colors of twilight. I think why I tend to not like or remember later SC games' stages as much is that the stages are more dynamic and so the lighting changes over the course of the battle, and there isn't just One Beautiful Color Palette you associate with each stage. But the lighting on this stage is optimized to capture perfect sunset vibes with the white walls of the castle tinged a pale purple, and that makes it very memorable for me.
South France Mansion - Library from Soulcalibur II:
youtube
This one is admittedly a bit of a weird stage because like... what's up with that open ledge on one side that you can just fall down from? Why would you design a library this way...? It's very odd. But it's a very memorable stage -- fighting in a mansion library is really cool! And I like how enclosed this stage is, with bookshelves as walls. (I apparently like walls that really feel like part of the stage!) And once again, the golden light filtering in through windows does really make this stage feel like an indoor library in the late afternoon. I really like it!
Eurydice Shrine - Gate of the Gods from Soulcalibur III:
youtube
I love how high up in the mountains this stage looks -- the vistas, the snow gently falling, the strong wind in the stage. It also gives a nice sense of open space, and the flowing water in the background gives this stage a meditative vibe. The music is pretty epic too. Top tier stage.
Thanks for the ask! Ask me Soulcalibur questions.

Images of the Ostrheinsburg Chapel stage from the Soulcalibur II soundtrack booklet, featuring a closer look at the stained glass windows. I found these through the Daily Siegfried Schtauffen Twitter, but as to where the person behind that account got them, I don’t know. I’ve made a crop of the window from the first page so the details are easier to see.
In the first image, at the top left corner, there’s a note from composer Yoshihito Yano:
In order to create a sacred atmosphere, I started with the pipe organ to suit the chapel. I intended to convey the calm before battle. The melody that would become the tune’s theme came to me casually at home, which I remember writing in a hurry because I didn’t have the production equipment at hand.
And at the bottom right is the stage’s description:
Through the crumbling walls, one can see the sad and silent state of the abandoned castle. Four years ago, a hidden battle between Soul Edge and Soul Calibur took place in the ruins of Ostrheinsburg Castle*. The chapel that stands here was caught up in a siege that occurred several years before that battle and later became the center of the Nightmare incident. The worshippers there have long since disappeared.
But mysteriously, the sound of a bell sometimes echos in the chapel when no one is supposed to be there...
A rumor about it somehow began to spread. The bell rings by itself for the chosen warriors.
*Yes, that’s redundant, but it’s a tautological name in Japanese too.
