Elected to the NY State Assy. in 1903, as a Democrat, and served continuously until 1915, being the #democrat floor leader during the latter years. He was made president of the Board of Aldermen of Greater NY in 1917, and was elected Governor of NY State for terms extending over 1919-20 and 1923-28. Was the defeated candidate for President in 1928, when his opponent #herberthoover was elected. A corner plate block of four, 3-cents, stamps.
