It Won't Scar
Shadow rounded the corner of the hall and stopped in his tracks.
The wall ahead had been crushed inward. In the center of the crater, Sonic. A few feet away stood Omega. Neither had noticed him yet.
“. . . ouch.” Sonic peeled himself from the drywall.
Crumbs of white were brushed from blue, falling to the floor. It was quiet enough to hear each particle hit the laminate tile.
“Sorry about that.”
“DO NOT DO IT AGAIN. NEXT TIME I WILL NOT LEAVE YOU INTACT.”
“I won’t, but, just, don’t sneak up on me like that. You nearly scared the skin off me.”
“AND YOU HAVE DAMAGED MINE.”
Omega moved his arm, revealing a sparking gash across his chest.
And for a moment, Shadow’s heart stopped beating in his. “What the fuck did you just do?”
“Woah! Shads, it’s not what you-”
Shadow shoved Sonic back into the wall, coating his quills with dust again. He gathered chaos energy and his palms began to crackle
A large hand planted itself on his shoulder. “SHADOW. DESIST.”
“I’m so sorry, Shadow. I-”
“You hurt him!” Shadow jabbed a finger into his chest.
“DESIST. BOTH OF YOU.”
Shadow turned around to face Omega. “He hurt you.”
“MY DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION IS OPERATIONAL, YES.”
“He could’ve killed you!”
“NEGATIVE. DESIST FROM THAT LINE OF RATIONALE IMMEDIATELY.” Omega leaned forward. “YOU ARE A FOOL FOR THINKING ME SO FRAGILE.”
“You’ve seen what he’s capable of doing to those like you!”
“I AM THE ULTIMATE ROBOT! I AM SUPERIOR TO THOSE WORTHLESS CONSUMER MODELS!”
“Yeah, you are. Absolutely.” Sonic said, before adding quietly, “I don’t know many other robots who could’ve caught me mid-spindash, buddy.”
Shadow ran out of words. The audacity, his brain finally suggested, but he couldn’t get his lips to move, so he simply glared.
“SONIC IS CORRECT. SHADOW, THERE IS A REASON I TRAIN WITH YOU. YOU, AS THE ULTIMATE LIFEFORM, ARE THE ONLY ORGANIC CAPABLE OF GIVING ME A CHALLENGE. SONIC IS NO MATCH.”
“Hey, I wouldn’t go that far.”
“I WOULD.”
“Rude!”
“YOU ARE THE RUDE ONE. NEXT TIME YOU WISH TO CHALLENGE ME, REQUEST A PROPER SPAR.”
“Yeah. . . sorry. Really, I am. That was stupid. I shouldn’t’ve-”
“Yes. You shouldn’t have.” Shadow snapped.
“Here, lemme call Tails. He can fix you up.”
“NEGATIVE. HIS CURRENT LOCATION IS 286 MILES AWAY. BY THE TIME IT WILL TAKE HIM TO PREPARE YOUR AIRPLANE AND ARRIVE HERE, I WILL HAVE REPAIRED THIS DAMAGE.”
“You can do that?”
Omega tapped his chestplate. “‘TIS BUT A SCRATCH.”
