SonSal Headcanons
So @ninjakasuga tagged me the other day in a fun little SonSal Headcanons prompt, and I figger, hey, I’ve still got a bit of time to go before I start working on my “Bound For Freedom” stuff (psst, not-so-subtle reminder/self-promotion, it starts Sunday August 16th https://boundforfreedomsonsal.tumblr.com/post/623995131966668800/announcingbound-for-freedom-week-year-2 ), and it’s genuinely flattering to see something inspired by (and pretty squarely aimed at x3) me, so let’s do it to it! 8D
I won’t tag anyone else, but hey, if you see this and feel like taking a crack at it yourself?  Feel free.
Tumblr media
SFW Headcanons:
Pet Names: Sonic calls her “Sal” all the time, obviously, but he eventually starts experimenting with “Nutmeg” when they’re in private.  She’s not crazy about it, but she’s at least willing to see if it grows on her.  As for Sally, she’s started trying out “Blue” on occasion; again, it’s a bit of an awkward fit initially, but Sonic does have some fondness for it.
Habits As A Couple They Develop Together: Finishing each other’s sentences absolutely.  They also start giving their hands a quick squeeze or touch every time they’re about to separate for whatever reason; nothing showy or fancy, it’s practically subconscious after a while.
Favorite Ways Their Significant Other Shows Affection to Them: For both of them, the answer is the same: lying down together, holding each other in their arms, and just...resting.  Sometimes for a few minutes, sometimes for hours, it varies depending on their mood (Sonic especially), but even so, however long it lasts, they always end it feeling satisfied and rejuvenated.
Least Favorite Trait About The Other That Causes Occasional Friction: Obviously, Sonic is very much about Fast Action and Impulse, and Sally’s much more thoughtful and thorough, so they bump heads on that area all the time.  But perhaps more over, Sonic has trouble properly modulating his feelings and learning how to properly express them, which can sometimes be difficult for Sally to process with the necessary patience and care.  Meanwhile, Sally has the opposite problem: she plays her feelings very close to the vest, to the point where it can sometimes be a mystery what she’s feeling, which Sonic can find very frustrating.
The Moment They Fully Realized They Were In Love With Each Other: I’ve actually talked a bit about this before, actually, but suffice it to say in both cases, there really isn’t a single moment they can look back on and say that’s when they knew for sure.  They grew up together; they’ve always cared for each other very closely.  As such, it’s a bit tricky for either of them to pin-point exactly when they realized the direction their feelings had taken them; some time after the coup, surely, and likely at least a few years after they began living in Knothole at least.  But beyond that?  Neither one is sure.
How The Marriage Proposal Goes And Who Asks First: Again, I’ve tackled this notion a bit before, but suffice it to say: Sonic’s the one who asks, and it is simultaneously an Impulse Decision made in the heat of battle (not because he’s scared, either, but simply because that’s when his brain is usually at its most active, so it’s easier for these things not only to come to mind for him, but for there to be little room between the thought entering his head and his decision to act on it) and yet weirdly indirect, less Sonic asking if Sally would like to marry him and more his asking her to imagine what their wedding will look like together with him.  It is, in other words, less his asking something from her, and more about his wanting to share something with her.
Kids?  If Yes, How Many: Arguably, they already have one, and I admit I’m actually not 100% sure if that would prime them for having another, or else kind of put them off the notion.  Still, if it was indeed the former, I’d honestly suspect they’d only have one more; given their respective responsibilities, and the fact that they both grew up pretty wary of how many resources they’d ever have at their disposal, I personally think that’s about as much as they’d be comfortable with.  Though given how these things play out, if they were to, say, have twins a la the 25YL/”Light Mobius” timelines, I think they’d manage.  Then again, part of me thinks they’d adopt, so there’s that to consider too.
I also did the NSFW Headcanons, but for personal reasons I decided not to post them publicly.  If you’re curious, feel free to DM me and I’ll share them in private. ^_^

Get to Know me
Tagged by @mirthfulrealist - Thanks for the tag
Name: Er... Sorry to say I’m not up to sharing my real name on the web... But I sometimes use Layla... I nicked the name from my dog many years ago, and she passed last year, so I’m nowadays in two minds about using it. But I stuggle with names and usernames :-/
Age: Well, a Lady doesn’t state her age... OK, once again I’m being overly cautious with the internet, but I’ll offer the vague answer of mid-twenties.  (Oh gods, I actually have to say “Mid” nowadays - can’t get away with “early” anymore... where’s my life going???)
Favourite Colours: Blues. Was Yellow when I was little, but then Doctor Who returned to our screens, and between Tardises and Sonic Screwdrivers blue became my colour of choice. Moved on from Doctor Who in some ways, but since learning of it’s associations with truth it seems the colour blue is set to stay in my life. Although I’m increasingly fond of browns and blacks... and purples aren’t bad...
When you made this account: Er... (scrolls back through archive) looks to be 4 years since first post is from Jan 2015
Super power: Does procrastination count? No? How about a passion for fandom? Nah, that doesn’t fit either... Well I guess in that case I suppose it must be beta reading/editing. I’ve been told I’m pretty thorough, and it’s something I really enjoy when I get into it - it’s like a puzzle with so many dimensions.
Follower count: 27
Favourite drink: Hot Chocolate... but don’t tend to have that much (cacao and sugar is a token substitute that gets me by). Root Beer. Absinthe... oh, and there are some rather nice gins (Quince, and Elderflower and Grapefruit)
A song you love right now: Cold, Hailey, Windy Night (or the Faun version of it: Diese Kalte Nachte )
Dream Career: I’ve never known, and still don’t. I want to be a renaissance woman, multi-disciplinary, I suppose in part because I can’t think of any single thing I want to do, but like a lot of things.
Dream Vacation: Don’t really do vacations. Spend the summers re-enacting. I’d love to go back to Krakow, Poland someday though.
Hogwarts House: Huffleclaw. Typically been borderline, but tests when I was 11 came out Hufflepuff - something I was at first unsure about but have grown to know and love. After the academia of Uni though tests regularly come out as Ravenclaw. So, yeah, I’m Hufflepuff at heart, but like to think I have an edge.
Favorite Character this Week: This might surprise you: Daryl Dixon, from the Walking Dead. Oh, Vetinari wins my favourite character of the week pretty much every week - he wins favourite character of all time in my book - but I’m biased and it’d hardly be something new and interesting to any who’ve followed me, and not really answering the question.  These past few days I’ve been binge watching the Walking Dead on Amazon Prime, and from season 2 Daryl became a favourite - there’s an integrity, loyalty and good heart within him that I hadn’t expected from some of his first appearances, paired with a great amount of wilderness skills, and a nice character arc through the various series.
Christmas or Halloween: Probably Christmas, as it’s not just Christmas. We celebrate Yule on the 21st/22nd/23rd, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, then Hogswatch along with New Year. So there’s lots of nice food, the fire, the tree and decorations. Somehow firelight seems to make a winter-time festivity to me. When I was little, my parents would also put sooty footprints on the carpet, scatter the reindeer feed we’d leave out and leave glitter around the fireplace - seeing was believing.  Used to be our dogs favourite time of year too - she knew about and loved presents and special seasonal foods, so when I grew up it became about her.
Tagging: @crochetawayhpff, @francinehibiscus @lilsherlockian1975 and hey, anyone else who wants to give it a shot
