More Crookedstar Headcanons!

- Crookedstar likes to meet with other warriors and medicine cats outside of his clan from time to time. He usually meets with a group of cats from the different clans to, quite frankly? Just hang out and not be as hostile to one another. Because they meet in secret every moon or so, Crookedstar and the other cats have vowed to not speak of any drama or issues occurring in their clans. They can speak generally about it, but nothing personal to keep from clans having an advantage.

Some of the cats included are:

- Bluefur and Whitestorm from ThunderClan

- Blackfoot and Runningpaw/nose from ShadowClan

- Talltail and Barkface from WindClan

- Crookedstar likes to meet with the kits and apprentices every moon or two moons to speak with them, play games, and just generally have fun. Usually, he likes to meet with them prior to them heading to bed to have somewhat of a “ghost story time” with Crookedstar, in which Crookedstar shares stories of the past RiverClan, events from his own life, or even makes up stories on the spot with info and other ideas given to him by warriors in the clan.

- Crookedstar considered at one point to give up the life of a clan cat completely. This was prior to him becoming leader and he spent long, long, nights sitting by the river staring at his reflection, contemplating if StarClan really wanted him to be the next leader. He did actually leave at one point, having gone off as a loner/rogue for about two moons, before he returned after meeting his brother by the border.

- Crookedstar has fought in one on one combat before to save his clan from bloodshed. The times this occurred was usually with WindClan and Heatherstar or Tallstar, but neither cat ever went far enough to try and kill one another.

- Crookedstar has not told almost anyone about his past with Mapleshade and the constant training he did as an apprentice. Although he hasn’t told anyone, Brambleberry was the closest cat to ever find out about his promise and why he had been chosen as the next deputy of RiverClan.

- Crookedstar has taken scrutiny before from other warriors in different clans for his jaw and how he looks. While he takes it in stride, most cats who make fun of him are new warriors, apprentices, or kits, who do not know much about the RiverClan leader.

- At one gathering, Crookedstar nearly fought all of ThunderClan by himself due to bickering they had with RiverClan and with the apparent injury of Mudfur, when he had been out gathering herbs. While it was never proven, Mudfur sticks by his testimony and argues to this day that ThunderClan had attacked him across the border in RiverClan completely unprovoked.

- Due to this supposed attack on RiverClan’s medicine cat, Crookedstar declared there would be payment for the attack to Sunstar/Bluestar and had his clan attack them while they were asleep. While normally Crookedstar had been level headed and did not attack other clans without cause, the pure rage of his medicine cat being attacked sent him into a blind fury. Because of this attack, it left ThunderClan’s camp and some of their warriors in shambles for almost a moon and a half. Crookedstar later came to Sunstar/Bluestar personally and apologized, but ThunderClan has always been somewhat wary of the leader and have not fully forgiven him for such an attack.

- Crookedstar, although no longer officially an apprentice of Mapleshade, has been yanked into the Dark Forest for “training sessions” in which Mapleshade chastises the leader and forces him to fight until she allows him to leave. While normally Crookedstar is able to leave without issue, any time he is brought in by force for some reason “locks him out” from the outside world until Mapleshade allows him to depart.

- Crookedstar has accidentally sat in on nine live ceremonies and different medicine cat gathering during the half-moon. While he is usually not anywhere near the moonstone when this happens, Brambleberry has told him that she believes he still holds a special connection to StarClan after everything he had gone through.

Because I’m just watching a bit of YouTube before I go to bed, here’s some headcanons and verses I thought of for Crookedstar!

Headcanons

Crookedstar is one of only a very few cats who ever fell down the gorge and falls between WindClan and RiverClan territory who was able to tell the tale. As the story goes, Crookedstar had been along the border, just checking to make sure everything was alright, when the ground fell out beneath him, sweeping him into the gorge and over the falls. However, he had been knocked out in the fall down, which means when he finally recovered, he had been lying on the banks of a small cavern below the falls with a path back to the surface that was far away from WindClan or RiverClan, but still within a reasonable distance to either camp. It was about the Moonstone distance from the exit of the cavern tunnel to either camp.

Crookedstar also was the first leader to give advice to both WindClan and RiverClan about what to do if a cat fell into the gorge, as mentioned above. While no one has had to use what he’s told them, both clans are thankful for the information he provided and were happy to know he’s ok.

Crookedstar is still haunted by Mapleshade, even after breaking contact with her after receiving his nine lives. She appears in his dreams, causes sickness and other wounds, and also just vaguely stalks him, his friends, or his family around the Four Trees territory. He’s tried multiple times to get StarClan’s help to get rid of her, but they’ve never offered him any assistance.

Crookedstar is proud to call himself the leader of RiverClan that never had issues of prey during leaf-fall or leaf-bare due to the improved hunting tactics he implemented, similar to what he learned in the Dark Forest. These tactics allowed RiverClan cats to hunt almost all prey that ThunderClan cats are used to, allowing RiverClan to have a pretty good selection on source of food when the river ices over.

Crookedstar also is one of few RiverClan leaders to never have been attacked by another clan, kitty pets, rogues, etc., during his tenure as leader of the clan. This is due to the river still playing a factor, but also due to new and improved fighting skills he helped the warriors train to apprenticed and learn themselves. These tactics were used in regards on how to inflict heavy wounds to a cat, but to never go to a point where they would be killed from blood loss or wounds themselves. While he had attacked clans in the past for territory, to take back Sunningrocks, or anything else, the battle tactics that were implemented greatly improved RiverClan’s chances of victory.

Speaking of battle tactics, the RiverClan leader quickly became known for being a ferocious and hard cat to fight in battle when he went up against Heatherstar and WindClan during a battle for land on their borders. RiverClan and Crookedstar had fought so hard, so quickly, and so fearlessly, that WindClan had retreated only minutes into the battle. Crookedstar had taken only one hit during the battle, being a light scratch to his flank from Heatherstar, but he had done much more in return.

Despite Crookedstar having a bunch of warriors who were very good at fighting, he also was well known for being a wise and thoughtful leader for his clan, specifically on how to avoid confrontation. Most land disputes and other battles were sorted through Crookedstar and his deputy sitting with the other clan’s leader and deputy for long talks, with both clans being involved, in order to sort out the issue. Because of this, the other leaders respected him for trying to avoid battle, when possible, and to save lives that might be lost in the process.

Crookedstar never once had any issues with the river after he broke his jaw as a kit. However, he did have one scare during the middle of his leadership tenure when he fell into the river when the ice had cracked along the bank. He was saved by a ThunderClan patrol who had seen him fall in and were able to crack the ice on their side to pull the leader out of the water. Because of this act of bravery, Crookedstar personally visited ThunderClan to thank the patrol who saved his life and offered them all some prey RiverClan had caught during leaf-bare. The warriors accepted the offer graciously and both clans were on smoother terms following the incident.

Due to the issues caused by the Twolegs during new-leaf and green leaf, Crookedstar implemented patrols that were improved by his brother, Oakheart, to keep the twolegs as far away from the clan territories as possible. At one point, with a suggestion from Oakheart, WindClan and RiverClan teamed up to chase twolegs away from their normal camping spots, due to being too close to both borders.

Crookedstar only ever lost one life during battle with another clan as leader. All other lives came from either sickness, or from helping save clan mates / other cats caught in perilous situations, such as being caught in the river current, or having been attacked by a fox.

Crookedstar still receives occasional visits from Brambleberry, even after her passing as medicine cat. He and Mudfur both sometimes meet during the night to allow Brambleberry to visit to “catch up” on clan life and to also offer assistance with visions, omens, or general life advice.

One of Crookedstar’s favorite spots to relax is along the river with ThunderClan and RiverClan, on a smooth rock that is close to the treelike of ThunderClan’s territory. Not only does it allow a good spot to relax in the sun, it provides good shade for any in the area during the heart of greenleaf

Due to RiverClan seeming to always have abundant food sources during most of the year, Crookedstar was one of the first leaders to try and relax the amount of hunting patrols that happened, as well as to not do as many border patrols, as clans did not usually cause too many issues during his time as leader along the borders. Instead, he allowed the clan to do as they pleased within the territory, as long as it wasn’t causing trouble along the borders. This led to a lot of creative things happening in camp, with the addition of some different flowers and designs to the dens within the camp from cats who wanted to try and make them look nicer

Crookedstar usually tried to hold, at least once every moon, an “open forum” for the clan to talk about their grievances with either him, the deputy, the clan, or just other things that had been happening in or around the clan and territories. The point of these meetings were to address any issues quickly, so that appropriate action could be taken to fix them.

Crookedstar did mentor two apprentices during his time as leader, despite the fact that leaders usually didn’t take any on. The reason behind this, was due to an influx of kits from three queens that happened at the same time, with there being 8 kits being born and needing 8 warriors to train them at once. This put strain on the clan for border and hunting patrols, which led Crookedstar to mentor two apprentices to try and ease some of the burden off the other warriors.

Although never specifically mentioned, Crookedstar never had any sour relationships with any of the deputies or leaders within the other clans. He usually tried to maintain good relations with both in the clan, in order to avoid as much conflict as possible.

Verses

Outcast: Crookedkit/paw has left the life of the clan after feeling he does not fit in with the other warriors and his apprentice friends. Despite wanting to stay, to prove them wrong, he moves out to live on the farm with other cats like Fleck.

Dark Forest Mentor: After living a life that was heavily influenced by Mapleshade, Crookedjaw is exiled and shortly after passes to the Dark Forest after a fight with a clan patrol. Once there, he is welcomed by Mapleshade, who helps him train a new batch of warriors for the future.

Saving Lives: After the injury of his broken jaw and the difficulties that Crookedpaw faced when trying to become a warrior, Crookedpaw becomes a medicine cat apprentice under Brambleberry and learns the way of how to help his clan in a different way. However, he still holds his Dark Forest secret close to the chest and is still a formidable warrior in battle, when he’s needed.

Headcanon 1:

Despite the fact that Stormkit had been renamed to Crookedkit by his mother, Rainflower, as a way to treat her son differently and to make him feel bad, the rest of RiverClan supported the injured Crookedkit and deeply respected him as he grew older for surviving such an awful injury.

The injury to his jaw, not only became a fun talking point at gatherings, but was used as a way to honor Crookedjaw(star) later in life for the work he had done for RiverClan and the relentless effort he put into being a better warrior.

It was also looked at as a way of StarClan looking down upon Crookedstar in a favorable light and became a point of pride for Crookedstar later in his life, for surviving the accident.

Headcanon 2:

When Crookedkit had moved into the medicine cat den for a short while, he was treated by Brambleberry for the infection and the jaw itself. While he always deeply respected her for her help, he also thought of her as his foster mother, because Rainflower treated him so poorly.

He always used to talk to her a lot when he was an apprentice, and at one point in time, was almost considered by Brambleberry to have him by her next apprentice. However, Shellheart, Hailstar, and Brambleberry all agreed unanimously that Crookedpaw deserved to become a warrior, as they had all seen his spirit when training and knew he would become a great warrior.

Despite this, Crookedstar continued to treat her well throughout his time in the clan and up until her death during Crookedstar’s venture as leader. He always spoke to her and always enjoyed their conversations, even if they sometimes lasted for hours on end. She always thought of him as her son in return, despite that she could never have kits, and still treats him as such, even after both have joined the ranks of the warriors in StarClan.

Headcanon 3:

After Brambleberry had passed away during Crookedstar’s reign, he held a full ceremony for her, as all clan cats have received. However, despite the normal idea to only sit vigil for the night, Crookedstar did a full vigil for two days and two full nights to honor her passing. Once the clan had taken her and buried her, Crookedstar could be seen lying inside the Medicine Cat den some days, still unable to process she had passed on, despite her long and prosperous life.

Mudfur, throughout all of this, helped the leader with the loss and the two also had long talks about Brambleberry. In the end, the talks helped Crookedstar move on from her loss, but also help him honor the medicine cat’s legacy for all she had done to not just help him, but the clan as a whole.
