If it would please you, maybe an analysis on Ayayaya or the TEN x WINWIN lovely choreography?
of course! below cut~
ten x winwin
this was niceeee. one thing i noticed and really appreciated is how they were able to effectively utilize the space despite only having two performers. there are very few formations you can do with two people… but, knowing the two sides of the sets + their outfits were opposites, they used this to convey messages of conflict throughout the choreography. this complimented some clear (yet not cringey) body language they were using
a lot of the time, fancy videography can be dangerous when when it’s not on the same page as the choreography, but i felt that it was able to bring out nuances to help with interpreting the choreography. there were different filming angles used that helped shine light on different emotions and different images. two examples would be: a) when the camera filmed ten from a lower angle to convey winwin’s position of power; and b) having ten in the foreground despite barely moving while winwin was doing a bunch of stuff in the back to show ten’s serene expression to contrast winwin’s intensity.
in terms technique and execution, the lines were very clean (winwin has very pretty dance lines for contemp + the amount of control he had on his flip was crazy) and their movements were nice and full (esp. ten’s… he’s more able to use his torso for bigger movement, despite being smaller). of the two, i prefer ten’s dancing because his musicality is a lot stronger (i.e. you can hear the music when you watch him dance) vs. winwin who seems to lack a bit in textures. my only critique would be that there was a point where some isolation moves came in with the hi-hats, but their execution lacked some control (that was a small part tho)
ayayaya
disclaimer: im going at this as objectively as possible and looking ONLY at the dance aspect of it. pls no flame. u know i love all the members
performance-wise, i think izone did pretty well considering that this was their first stab at a concept like this. it’s hard to do when you’re not familiar with a certain concept and you have limited time to practice it. there are many good points and each of them perform with their own colour which is what makes it interesting to watch.
unfortunately, in all honesty, technique-wise, this is a pretty simple choreography (probably beginner level hip hop class at an established hip hop studio), and formations are pretty simple, but the performance was not clean :( . this kind of shines light on an overall problem in kpop - you CANNOT skip learning dance foundation. just like how you can’t build a stable building on top of some mudslide foundation, you’ll always have a ridiculous glass ceiling over your head if you don’t learn the proper foundations of dance. and no… this cannot be explained by ‘they need to not dance that hard because they are singing or need to save energy’ :( . having a dance instructor teach them proper foundation would make cleaning this a LOT easier because they would all have the same base knowledge instead of having to individually puzzle how to do certain movements (kind of like being taught how to spell a word vs sounding it out yourself without knowing how the language works). hyewon and yuri did not train for very long and i dont think sakura really got a solid foundation of the basics. if they were able to get this knowledge through OTR, their pathing for movements would be similar to each other and to eunbi chaeyeon and minju... just doing this would bring the performance together much better!
and a whole other topic... lee chaeyeon is a god holy heck… a big big thing i notice is that she’s so good at using her head while dancing and it really shows in this choreography. i could watch her fancam 1000 times in a row and find something new to be wowed at every time. her movements are so light but not flaily at all and you can tell 1000% she’s really enjoying herself on stage... i love it
