There’s something so funny about Max with El in hand running straight into thegap and then we see Mike, positioned most closely toward thegap in the group, walk right on by it.
“You were wearing whatever shit your mommy bought you from the goddamn gap.”
Perfectly matches the speech Eddie just gave about forced conformity. Mike was wearing what his mom bought for him to wear, and, as we can see in this shot, Mike is now wearing something he specifically wears for himself. Because this shirt represents a part of who he really is.
But then he goes to Lenora. He metaphorically returns to ‘thegap,’ wearing clothes that aren’t what he would truly wear. His airport outfit, as we know, isn’t a reflection of who Mike really is.
