Free Cuba 🇨🇺 ✊🏾 …………………………. A force to be reckoned with, this tiny island has been the center of a known political gambit that many are all too familiar with. As beautiful a country as it is, the intricacies in its history, namely the standing of its government, has rendered the will of its people stagnant. Yes, there were things that I had learned regarding the construct of its society that truly disappointed me, but I have hope that the Cuban people will one day regain their voice. ………………………….. One way to do this is supporting tourism and cultural activities created and run by the Cuban people. ⚡️Pro Tip : You will likely need a visa when entering Cuba. Be sure that the terms of your visa indicate - “Support of the Cuban People” To many people this might seem obvious. When you travel, of course you want to support local forms of tourism. But to the Cuban people…it means much more than that. This type of support fuels the opportunity for them to regain their voice. 🗣️ ➡️ For the people, by the people 🇨🇺: 🔹That money goes toward meat 🍖 (often obtained on the black market) being placed on tables to feed their families and you, as a tourist. 🔹 At least some compensation for the native cowboys and others who work tirelessly to make those Cuban cigars that are handed over to the government, and made millions internationally. 🔹 Milk, in powdered form, being made available only for households with children up until the age of six. These are just examples. If you understand the realities of the people, you will understand why and how far your dollars stretch. 🚨[Save + Share] A few months ago I had the pleasure of attending @nomadnessfest . There I met @vkarel and she introduced me to her tourism company @greet.her . Created with the intent of pairing women travelers with local women tour guides in other countries, to date they serve 89 countries. The proceeds go directly to the guides. ……………………… The first place I visited in Morocco was : 📍 Marrakech As I wasn’t sure what to expect for this trip, I decided to book a guide for a one-day tour of Marrakech the day I landed. I already knew a lot of what I wanted to see, but having a guide really helped me to : 🔸 Navigate 🔸 Further understand cultural norms 🔸 Learn the history of certain places, and 🔸 Learn Arabic And so, I was paired up with a wonderful guide named Heather! 💕 [Swipe to see a pic of us] She really showed me the ropes as to how to get around. She taught me how to bargain for prices, be it items or taxi rides. She even checked-in with me almost everyday throughout the duration of my trip. Oh and I forgot to mention, she was a classic at photography! 👌🏾 ………………………. Drink orange 🍊 juice, & take a nice picture 📸 ……………………… So says the sign I’m perched up next to. [Please excuse that glaring light streak. This is the best we could do. 😆] While walking with new travel friends 🥰, we happened upon this elderly gentleman selling freshly squeezed orange juice. His little setup was so adorable, that I just could not pass up the opportunity to snap pictures of it. This gentleman must be very well known, cause he and his little stand are all over Pinterest! He speaks no English, but he is such a sweetheart! 😆💙 If you are passing through Chefchaouen and want to pay him a visit, be sure to walk down : 📍Blue Street I promise you won’t miss him! With less than 24hrs in Jordan, you’d really think I probably couldn’t see much. But trust and believe, where there is a will, there is a way! ☝🏾 With a flight ✈️ at 4:45pm…I had to be real creative. Every time, I asked someone for advice on how best to get an area, most would tell me “Oh it’s just 15 minutes walking.” I have learned that 90% of the time if you are told this, you better double that time - make it 30 minutes. 😂 Plus, I could see the place that I wanted to go to located on top of a hill or mountain of some sort, from the cafe I ate it. With all the winding streets and heat, I know that trek was no 15 minutes on foot. Lol ………………………. So how did I really get around so quickly? Uber ⚡️ProTip : Before traveling to a country, see what taxi-hailing or ride-sharing services exist. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy walking, busing, or even the train, but you’d be surprised how cheap some of the taxi prices are in certain countries. For example, a 15-20 min ride to the main site I wanted to see in Jordan cost me about $2 USD.
