he's really just a kid that wants his dad's love and attention, that craves everyone's approval in the face of his father's neglect and who wants to take care of his older brother despite everything and everyone pitting them against each other

and he thinks he can gain all of that if he can just become crown prince.

is it any wonder he was so desperate to win the duel. or that he fell apart apart when the goal he'd worked for his entire life was snatched away from him no matter how much he told himself he was okay with the outcome??

sorry i know i already showed theo's face but LOOK AT HIS CUTE LITTLE FACE I LOVE HIM SO MUCH (ﾉ≧▽≦)ﾉ!!

also i need to clarify that he's being completely genuine about being worried about rakiel's health this is not a weird power play he truly doesn't want to risk rakiel for a political move, especially not one that will supposedly benefit him. he accepts it because rakiel was the one that suggested it, it was his hyung's decision but!! it's not something he takes any pleasure with!

there's this really,,, nice private conversation they have right after rakiel makes his proposal to the king, where theo tries to convince rakiel to take it back, to not put himself in danger, that he doesn't want his 'sacrifice'. and he also reassures him that he doesn't have to worry about theodore taking measures against him once he's emperor, he won't even keep him in check in any way, no matter the danger rakiel could pose to his sovereignty, theo won't hold any ill will against him, so he doesn't have to do something like this to gain his favor.

it's!! sweet!! naive and presumptuous and a bit insulting but it comes from a genuine place of worry and care!!

and!! they skipped theo going directly to asterion to call him out for using the llojavi bridge as the place for the duel!! where thousands of people will see it! mind you, no one expects rakiel to be able to win, he has next to no chance of winning from a realistic point of view, in their eyes the only outcome is him suffering a complete and total defeat. and theo doesn't want thousands of people to see his older brother be completely destroyed in a duel he never had a chance to win.

he never wanted to usurp his brother's position like that. he didn't want to confront his hyung like that.

ah. here he is. the mother fucker himself. so rakiel's silver hair doesn't come from him. but his eye color does. incheresting.

and more important!! theo!! baby love of my life hiiiiii <333!!!

he didn't get the silver hair but! he did get the blue eyes. that's a lot more likely tho, both alicia, javier and charlotte had blue eyes. still, his hair is a lot more wavy than rakiel's but it's difficult to tell where that came from without seeing his mom. god he's so cute tho <3

so. neither asterion nor theo have silver hair which means it's not a particularly strong gene like brown hair, but it can skip generations and still come back like red hair which does line up with what i'd theorized before. now if i could just get a glimpse of rakiel's mom i'd be satisfied!

theodore being one of the few people who genuinely mourned for og!rakiel when he died in the original novel,,,, telling rakiel that he didn't have to doubt him for he would never wish him harm or even try to keep him in check as emperor,,, standing up against his father for what he felt was a cruelty against his sick older brother,,,, why were we robbed of rakiel and him bonding more,,, there are mental issues hiding in there i know this give them to me

i don't know what it is about christan that just makes me think he would have so many friends with benefits. he just. he took to being naked so quickly something just tells me he'll turn into the kind of adult who just doesn't have any shame whatsoever in his own body and that would lead into not having much shame in his sexuality either. he'll be attracted to someone and just. go for it. no shits given. only stopping to consider the possible political ramifications of bedding the second imperial prince.

i don't think it would be something serious, not even romantic actually, just two people of around the same age and somewhat equal standing being attracted and deciding that yeah, they could go for it.

i think they could both relate to being younger siblings expected to pick up the slack from their older brothers and being groomed as heirs to the throne of their respective countries even if their circumstances were vastly different. and i dunno, i think christen's new attitude to his own body would do theo some good too. their relationship to their bodies is very different, but after theo's breakdown and subsequent extreme diet, i think it would do him a lot of good to be around someone who feels no shame whatsoever about his body and feels very comfortable in his own skin.

i marked the "they should go to therapy together" mostly because i need someone to drag theo into therapy immediately. and it would do christan some good too lmao

and i just!! want them to have friends!!! these two kids need to be their age so bad!! and having a friend would do them so good!! canon can bite me!!

another one i don't have much to say about! i certainly see the seeds being planted and i wouldn't mind if it happened but as it is the novel has done little to either endear me to it or make me hate it. i would've much preferred if theo had developed a more significant relationship with rakiel the way it was hinted at in the beginning instead of giving him a romance but alas, it seems that wasn't the story bk moon wanted to tell.

i don't know if either of them are aware there are romantic feelings developing in there or if they genuinely just want to be friends, but whatever happens i guess i'm okay with it!

do u think theodore will marry sylvia

honestly?? could go either way! sylvia has a really different look on how time passes compared to humans so if theodore waits for her to decide anything that important he may be looking forward to waiting a couple decades. so if he's willing to do that then maybe yes!

on the other hand maybe sylvia decides to have the equivalent of a vegas wedding and marries theodore less than ten years after meeting each other.

but maybe they decide to remain just friends so they won't be faced with the sad reality that sylvia will live hundreds of years more after theodore dies and so their marriage will just be just a bright but brief spot in her life.

i would be happy with either of these options tbh

part of me is viciously glad that rakiel is awkward and standoffish with asterion. it's honestly the bare minimum that the man deserves after neglecting his child for twenty years. it sucks that only now that rakiel is proving himself does asterion realize how shitty it was of him to push his kids over and over again so they would get stronger. that only now that he faces the risk of losing his son in dangerous situations rather than waiting for him to die from illness does he realize how much it would hurt to lose him and how he'd rather prefer rakiel would just be safe than be a hero.

it's so satisfying to see him realize it's his own fault that his son is uncomfortable and distant in their relationship and that he doesn't have any right to expect anything else from him (even if he doesn't know rakiel isn't doing it to punish him and is dealing with his own issues).

but it's also very sad to realize that if he had shown even a fraction of that concern and care to og!rakiel, his son would've forgiven him immediately. he would've almost certainly let go of all the years he spent being neglected and ignored and been delighted to get the parental approval he spent his entire life seeking.

so i can't fucking wait for asterion to know that this rakiel isn't the son he needs to apologize to. that the one he hurt and pushed and neglected all those years is completely out of his reach. that for all his care and love and concern it is way too late now and that he'll never get the chance to make up for all the damage he did. that by the time he realized how wrong he'd been and decided to change his son was already long gone.

that he lost his son and none of the hurt he put him through was worth it
