Do you know where I could get my hands on cheaper second hand fur? I really want a nice coat but no luck at my local thrift
absolutely !!
goodwillfinds, shopgoodwill, your local craigslist (if you have one), facebook marketplace, and ebay are the best places i've found to get good secondhand furs.
i suggest using really vague terms like 'fur' 'vintage fur' 'brown fur' instead of specifying what you want because most people incorrectly label furs.
some notes: don't pay over $20 for vintage rabbit, use secondhand sources to verify that it's real fur and that it's the correct type of fur, also unless you really know what you're looking for don't purchase furs with shedding or rips-- it's almost never repairable.

Someone must have donated a ridiculous amount because they're is SO MUCH AG stuff on shopgoodwill right now if you want random huge clothing lots or specific furniture or lightly used dolls or to really grow your book collection you should go look

I did not actually dress up any dolls for Purim (maybe this weekend), but I missed doing something with them, so I took Anne out on one of the first springy days

We mostly just looked at the water. My intention was to get her with one of the newly bloomed cherry trees that she would find so lovely, but they were all in yards.

Finally got a chance to go do some writing at the coffee shop again and Rebecca came with me, all bundled up and ready for a fall treat 🍁🎃

Rebecca was my big tax refund treat!! And everyone was right, she's so so beautiful. You can't really see it here, but her eyes are a lovely mix of green and brown. Her hair is a basic brown but instead of being boring it's a mix of shades, and I love the effect. I needed somewhere pretty to take her, so I drove to a church down the street with all these blooming cherry trees out front. I think the pictures turned out so lovely.

I love her clothes, too. It's just cool enough still for a shawl. Her necklace is short but the perfect length for this top. Her hair curls like mine when it was long. She's definitely my mini me.

My #1 post of 2022
I really want Rebecca, I've wanted her since she came out when I was 13, but part of me is scared I'll finally spend real money on a new doll and she'll get here and I'll realize she's too generic and uninteresting looking. I know dolls are often much more beautiful in person. Can y'all show me pictures of your Rebeccas looking lovely?

a nice breakdown of what its like to be a system trying to create my dream
~Whore Home~
So we (the collective) are going to be moving into a new space with our longterm partner within the upcoming months. With this knowledge, we've been working on acquiring things for the home in advance.
This process can be documented as follows
Goes onto shopgoodwill.com
Spends hours scrolling and liking random used homegoods on shopgoodwill
Finally decides to bid on a few
immediateregret.jpg
Request a few bids to be cancelled
Loses out on the rest
Wins 2 out of around 20 bids
Its a dishwear set and limited edition Garfield Cups from the 1970s
New fronter pops in, informs that the cups have sus history but that they cannot recall what's sus
Googles the cups
The Garfield cups are not only lead paint, but also cancer red paint too
Informs significant other of win of cancer garfield cups
Significant other states that they've used those cups before
worriedpog.jpg
Informs significant others older sibling
Immediately gets shamed by the older sibling for not informing their grandma immediately that the cups are cancerous
This becomes an inside joke (We have yet to inform her)
Starts a mini obsession over lead painted cups from the 1970s.
Finds out lead paint is in everything that was produced before the 2000s, and that some manufacturers still use lead paint.
cryingoverleadpaint.jpg
Mini lead paint fixation.
Swears to purchase the full line of lead paint Care Bear Pizza Hut cups to join the Garfield cups on the fireplace mantle.
Buys two brand new Care Bear antique plushies to sit on said nonexistent mantle with said unowned Care Bear cups.
The hunt continues for objects.
Anyway, that's just one of the experiences I've had trying to get things for this new home. I've gone thrifting multiple other times since then, and have gotten many items that I'm super happy with.
Now, item acquiring and obsessing isn't the only thing we've been struggling with.
We've also been struggling to settle on an aesthetic. We love boho, witchy, cottagecore styles but those don't always go together well, especially because of the clash in tones (upbeat bright colors vs darker colors).
We've even downloaded Pinterest to help us identify an overall style that most fronters enjoy.
It really doesn't help that my partner feels either way about it, and has practically given me free range and complete control over decor.

So I’ve got a new prospect on used LEGO.
If you haven’t heard about shopgoodwill (website) you should check it out! It’s basically Good Will online.
(I’m not sure how “good” Good Will is, they seem to be a good company, hiring special needs persons, people out of our bullshit prison systems, but I haven’t looked into them. I’d hope that they’re not pulling nefarious business practices behind the scenes.)
Anyways, they have so much stuff! It’s set up like eBay, as in everything is auctioned off, some with a Buy It Now option.
So they naturally have TONS of bulk LEGO lots.
What I’ve found out, is most of these lots are indeed, bulk and completely random. Unless there is a section of a set partially built, it will be hard to identify what could possibly be in the bulk lot.
Alas, through various methods, it’s possible to identity what could be in a lot by singular pieces and sticker sheets/applied stickers.
For instance: there is a dark blueish gray wheel piece I saw in a lot. That singular piece was only ever included in two sets. One set had 20 wheels, the other set had 2 wheels.
The lot contained about 7 wheels. Leading me to believe the set with 20 wheels was in that lot. While it’s not guaranteed that EVERY piece for the set will be in the lot, it’s a good indicator as to what sets make up said lot.
Or in another instance, I could see an applied sticker on a light gray 1/3rd 4x3x8 cylinder piece. The sticker was Star Wars as you could see Aurebesh glyphs. First I looked up all the Star Wars sticker sheets on Bricklink and that cylinder piece. And lo and behold, the cylinder was included in around 6 Starwars sets, but the sticker sheet was only included in one, the latest iteration of the Droid Escape from Episode 4.
It’s dumb but I find it so fun, it’s like a treasure hunt.
I just posted about LEGO coming on Sunday, and that is from shopgoodwill. I scored about $300+ in used retired sets for about $70. Scooooooore.

I love scrolling through shopgoodwill for the interesting things that come up. Currently my favorite is a Felicity in Molly's shirt and what I think are generic pants, who looks to be in decent quality (only problem was a few flyaways in the wig), who's starting bid is only $9.99. I've never seen an AG doll in good enough quality start so low, most on goodwill go for around $20+, wonder if there's some hidden problems.
Yeah! I look at the listings all the time. I like seeing which dolls get donated the most, and I watch a lot of auctions I’ll never bid on just to get an idea of how much money they sell for. I’ve seen so many Tenney dolls the past few months. It feels like there’s one or two listed every week now, and they always sell for high prices. I didn’t see the Felicity you mentioned so either her auction is over or I scrolled right past. But yeah, dolls that end their auctions with 0 or 1 bid at $10 are usually fixer uppers, and have things like cut hair, wonky eyes, and stains. If you have to replace the wigs then that’s an additional cost. So she may have issues. Or maybe Felicity isn’t in very high demand right now unless she has her original outfit and untouched hair.  The starting bids seem to vary based on which particular Goodwill is listing them, I think. Some places start their bidding on dolls at $30 but shipping is 1 cent.
