Although it’s important that those of us in the aromantic community correct the assumption that ALL of us fit into the “cold emotionless aro” stereotype, it is just as important that we remember some aros do fit that stereotype, and that that’s okay. Some aros, especially neurodivergent aros, not only don’t love but also lack empathy, lack interest in close emotional bonds, don’t feel sadness/grief/anger/fear when they’re supposed to, have trouble expressing and/or feeling intense emotions, etc.

It’s very easy to fall into the trap of trying to justify our collective humanity and right to exist by attempting to distance ourselves from these individuals. However, in doing so, we not only harm many individual members of our community but also stifle the aro community as a whole. We are a community that relies heavily on dismantling the notion that certain feelings — namely romantic feelings — are a prerequisite for humanity. We cannot afford to undermine that goal by throwing “cold” and “scary” aros under the bus to make ourselves look more palatable. And even if we could afford to do so, it would not be worth it to gain societal approval of our identity at the expense of the actual people in our community.

Heyo! I’m Avi, I’m a twenty-four year old aro/ace nonbinary (they/them), and an all around Chaotic Dumbass™.

I’ve been roleplaying on Tumblr for like uhhh thirteen years? Almost? And roleplaying in general for like fourteen. I tend to fall back on writing OCs, mostly of the fandomless variety, but I do have quite a few muses for canon characters that I love to write as.

I’m currently trying to overcome some pretty bad depression, anxiety disorder, and other mental illness stuff. I’ve mostly been good for the past year, but some days are worse than others so if you ever see me drop offline unannounced or if replies take a slow turn, please be understanding.

I’m an aspiring game developer with a couple of drafts for possible games in the works. The only game making software I’ve got at the moment though is RPG Maker 2003, and I’m still figuring things out with it, so who knows if I’ll ever get anything done with it.

I also have a hobby in acting and sometimes do performances at the local community theater. Some shows I’ve been in include The Nightmare Before Christmas (Oogie-Boogie), The Princess Bride (Vizzini), The Breakfast Club (The Basketcase/Allison Reynolds), The Wizard of Oz (The Wicked Witch), and many others. I’ve been acting for a long while, so there’s been quite a few performances.

I also love playing Dungeons and Dragons. I’ve got several characters running around, and am currently running a long-term game on a Discord server. I am also a somewhat active member in the First Drafthouse, which is a server for the Toonkind homebrew race. My characters there include Marian Marcutio, Abby K. Debra, Azha Eridanus, Ami the Angel, Arata Satomi, and Dillan B. Cynd.

My personal blog is aviaviator, which is almost always running on a next-to-full queue (ten posts per day), I have an art blog over at artsavi where I dump a lot of doodles and such, and I’ve got a writing blog for one shots and shorts for various fandoms and fandomless stories over at aviwrites.
