Mina Lima (Miraphora Mina & Eduardo Lima) both started working together in 2001 to inspire and also create the graphic universe of the Harry Potter series for Warner Bros.

Here is a mix of their work:

I really do like their style, especially how it’s almost like an 80’s pop advert mixed with the wizarding world of Harry Potter, as if it were real. I think their pieces of work are definitely some of my favourite within the movies because it definitely makes the films have a somewhat relatable (for older audiences) and familiar feel to it.

Here is one of my favourite designs of theirs.

The fonts, use of colour and overall design ties this piece all together really nicely. I like how it is also a pop advert related to the Harry Potter universe, if it were real I would (personally) not check it out because of how ridiculous it looks and how dodgy the deals are though I would and do find it rather humorous.

Firstly I do like the random fonts within the advert, I think they were picked out really well and the amount of detail that went into them especially the wording is very thoughtful considering it is based within a made up fantasy world, and definitely would persuade audiences that it is a poster that wouldn’t be used out of the Harry Potter universe.

This poster used to advertise Quidditch is definitely a favourite of mine, the colour scheme used and the way how the colours tint matches each different shade is very well done. The overall style in the poster is very vintage, which I find very pleasing to look at as if it were a real poster from the 80s.

I like this small sticker design for a bottle (?) again Mina always nails the colour scheme within their works, as well as the font and logo. If I were to create my own commercial/advert for this project I would definitely use their work as an inspiration to my own.

Their overall work for the Harry Potter universe has a rustic feel to it, I love old styled papers, magazines, posters etc. It is very well done, especially how the designs make the Harry Potter movies feel more real in my opinion.

For my shoe advert I was inspired by a meme that I saw on instagram. When the mainstream caught on to the price and design of the Margiela Fusion’s, it become a bit of a viral talking point in the the digital social sphere. I wanted to play with that idea, turning a quick social media moment into a provocative piece of guerrilla marketing. Given the context of the memes, I broke down the design language of the internet pornography site Pornhub and reappropriated an old slogan from the company. I put together an advert that in some way laughs with, as well as pushes back to the internet memes. Suggesting to ‘do it yourself’ is not only a playful poke to the direct design of the shoe but it can also tie into the wider perceptions of modern art as a whole.
