The tmg album bracket has made me think and like. As much as I love some old classic low sound quality boom box JD songs I really do think that their studio stuff is like, undeniably better. Or not even studio necessarily, just like, post-2000. They're audibly better musicians, dealing with more interesting topics and making more interesting rhythmic and tonal decisions. I totally understand liking the old stuff more (even though I don't, personally, my fav era is probably 2003-2010) but you've gotta admit, John Darnielle and the band as a whole has gotten miles more skillful than when it started

#tmg #theres this tendency to be like 'oh the old stuff was best' when talking about musicians and its just like... not true for them #the goats have been doing it like 30 years and it keeps being good! better even!

I love expressing ridiculous opinions abt tMG albums bc random ppl invariably come out of the woodwork to tell me I'm wrong and it's this hilarious 0-stakes ready-made insta-argument and it's awesome. Also I didn't include any of the compilation albums (or their components) bc that image is big enough already so there

Put together a head-to-head bracket for comparing each of tMG’s albums. Albums were seeded in order of release, with Zopilote Machine as highest seed and Goths as lowest seed. Everything lined up perfectly thanks to Goths being their 16th LP
