you were a knight of the sky.
the endless sky, your battlefield yet home to you.
pegasus or wyvern, it did not matter what helped you take to the skies.
the only thing that mattered was you were in the sky.
the heroes lovingly called you the “dancer of the sky”. taking the title with modesty, you held your head high and departed to each battle with optimism and bravery.
but even if the skies were all you could ask for in your short life, your heart felt it yearning for something more.
“summoner,” fáfnir called out to you, his soft voice ringing through the halls. “can you deliver this to reginn?”
snapping out of your daydream, you answered. “of course,” you grabbed the parcel from fáfnir’s hands, feeling the subtle warmth radiating from his gloves.
“i...” you blushed, looking down. the last thing you needed was the king of niðavellir aware of your love for him. “i’ll get this to her straight away!” immediately turning away from the pale man, you rushed off to find reginn and create some distance between the both of you.
you walked down the halls, admiring the various tapestries hung on the walls of the askran castle. blue tapestry adorned with the askran symbol and gold lining...it truly fit a castle like this. you held the parcel with a slight grip, face heating up again from the memory of the sudden encounter with the man who captivated your heart.
"sigh...i can't let myself get so in my dreams." you closed your eyes for a second, only to find yourself on the ground, parcel spilled and the wind knocked out of your sail. when you opened your eyes to see your assailant, it was none other than who the parcel was supposed to go to.
"reginn?" you winced as you got up, dusting yourself off. "why were you running?" reginn bowed and apologized. "i'm sorry!! i was told that fáfnir wanted to give me something but i didnt know he had sent someone to give it to me!" reginn winced at seeing the contents of the parcel spilled out.
"i thought fáfnir wanted me to come over, so i spent some time running around looking for him," reginn carefully put all the contents back into the parcel. "but i never thought he'd asked you." the young girl giggled, a merry bells sounding laugh.
"what do you mean by that?" you narrowed your eyes, not sure what the princess of niðavellir could be implying.
reginn tensed, a nervous smile making to her lips. "oh! well..." she quickly grabbed her parcel. "well i gotta go. i'll see you soon summoner!" just as fast as she ran into you, she ran off once again. as much as you didn't want to admit it, the conversation with reginn had piqued your interest more than it should have.
"never thought he asked me..?" you continued walking, your next stop to the stables. if anything could clear your mind, it was flying on your beloved steed in the never ending sky. "it's probably nothing to really think about, i suppose." you reached your destination, greeting your pegasus with a smile. "hey," you stroked their mane, them snorting in delight. "you're ready to fly again?" they neighed in agreement.
you saddled up and got on, departing into the sky, feeling the wind caress your body. you sighed in happiness feeling the wind in your hair, the wind kissing your skin. nothing as far as you knew could ever beat the feeling of flying. "if only fáfnir could..." you breathed out, drunk on the exhilaration. you blushed deeply at the realization of what you just said. "like fáfnir would like to fly, he doesn't even like it." you fly down, deciding to go rest up for the day.
that was your plan, until your plan has reached an adrupt start. there was a familiar man in the distance awaiting you. you squinted, only to immediately go wide eyed. you flew down, not wanting to keep the king of a nation waiting. "is there," you got off your pegasus, petting their snout. "i can help you with?" you turned around to meet him, your blush shown greatly from the cold airs of askr.
"i wanted," he made his way towards you and your pegasus, brushing the hair ever so slightly. "to ask if you could teach me to fly." if you could be any more red in the face, that moment was certainly now.
"i..can teach you right now!" you tensed up, getting on first. "here," you reached your hand out to fáfnir, smiling a little. "take my hand." the man gripped your hand gently and smiled back, propping himself next to you. you tensed your shoulders and blushed.
"you can um...put your arms around my waist so you don't fall off." fáfnir snaked his arms around your waist, gently embracing you. "like this?" he asked. "i um yeah like that!!" you blurted, overwhelmed from all the interactions with fáfnir. "hold on tight," you grabbed the reins. "it's time we fly!"
you both soared into the sky, feeling the air surround you in coldness. you laughed from the feeling and fáfnir held onto you a little more tighter, not sure of this new experience and what new feelings it brought forth.
"you can trust me." you looked back at him, a reassuring smile. "these feelings...are unknown." he remarked. "thats ok if they are." you told your pegasus to go a little slow. "it's all part of trying new things."
fáfnir knew how different you were in the sky compared to the ground. on the ground, you were shy. but in the sky, you were just as free as it was. he admired that about you. as much as flying in the sky was unknown and strange to fáfnir, the love and admiration he felt for you was familiar and welcomed.
