My train of thought last night: “Oh, tomorrow is Mihai Eminescu’s birthday! So that means it’s our National Culture Day! And that means...free entry to art museums!”
I visited the Frederic and Cecilia Cuțescu-Storck Museum (seen above) and the Theodor Aman Museum today.

Today is our national day of culture, and rightfully so, yes? Of course, today is also my dear Mihai’s birthday. Mihai Eminescu, that is; the national poet.
The picture-perfect romantic poet, the perfect romantic figure of genius. His long, combed hair and heavy eyes were always lost in thoughts... goodness... I remember what promise he had, even as a young man at the National Theatre...
Ah! Excuse me! His work and visage are still very omnipresent, even today. Ah, what a day to re-read Luceafărul - “The Morning Star” - as if I needed an excuse. A beautiful poem. The longest love poem in the world, even today, and such a beautiful tale! How a princess falls in love with the valiant morning star! Oh, the depths of my breast ache from the desire of thy fierce love! My heavy, big eyes also ache, when into them thine shove!

Such beautiful work! Made into a beautiful opera, too!

Happy Birthday Mihai Eminescu! And also today is the National Day of Culture in Romania. 🇷🇴 #throwback . Today there are 170 years since he was born. . Eminescu is for Romanians a model of a misunderstood genius poet and writer. . This drawing was done back in 2014, when I was drawing different people as chibis. It was also the time when I started to get used to digital painting. . #ellycolor #mihaieminescu #poet #mihaieminescu170 #lamultiani #ziuaculturiinationale #poetroman #nationaldayofculture #happybirthday #comemorativedrawing #chibi #chibidrawing #chibiart #poem #desenomagial #romanianartist #romanianillustrator #tb #romania https://www.instagram.com/p/B7WRylSBzEZ/?igshid=11shdq5hu0opl

April 22 marks the birthday of Veronica Micle, the poetess and the beloved of the Romanian literary genius Mihai Eminescu. Eugen Doga composed over 40 works to her poems which became part of the music series “Dialogues of Love” about the two poets’ love story.
Before meeting Mihai Eminescu she had already been familiar with his poetry and had written about it in verse: “I knew only your name, better if I hadn’t known you. And wished to see you just once. To dedicate my life to you and make you my idol.”
She fell in love with him; they dedicated poems to each other. “Who knows if Eminescu would have been the same as we know him today without this vixen that ruined his life but who, actually, goaded him to create. It is hard to find any place in Eminescu’s work that is not in some way touched by the image of Veronica Micle,” says Eugen Doga.
