The adapting period (tw: starvation, experimentation)
Gordon may care about Benrey, but he doesn’t trust him by any means. He takes time to feel comfortable around him. Just because he isn’t going to let him bleed to death on an alien planet doesn’t mean he trusts him. He knew him when he was younger, yeah, but Benrey has done some bad things. He takes him home, checks for wounds and does his best patch care, and then ties him up and stashes him on the couch.
During the party the science team talks about who should take Benrey. The boomers are going to be travelling, and Tommy lives with his dad who doesn’t even know Benrey is still alive and that would not bode well for the alien. So that left Gordon. He only agreed to house Benrey until he recovered from his wounds, then he’s on his own.
Benrey was too drowsy to really care that he was tied up, thankfully, but was still an annoying little bastard for the first few days. Waking him up, poking fun at him, hitting on him, the usual. He has some incredibly high regen abilities, so Gordon wasn’t expecting it to take long. Soon he’d be better and he could kick this adult man out of his house and have a normal life.
How wrong he was. Yeah this is basically when he learned that Benrey quite literally spent his entire life in captivity. There was no way he could take care of himself, he couldn’t even tie his shoes. So he ended up keeping him for far longer then he expected. He met Joshua and got along great with him, and everything was peaceful.
After a couple of months, they started to get along better and the gay was creeping in. And of COURSE Gman came to him at this point to collect Benrey, which really irked Gordon. He didn’t learn too much about Benrey when he was in captivity, but everytime he says something misguided or has a fear of something he can’t help but wonder whether that is just his personality quirks or if it was sign of something horrible he went through. Like, he thought Benrey was just a picky eater when he refused to eat packaged food but it’s so much worse. And somehow that knowledge made him stubborn enough to tell this otherworldly creature “No”.
Gman has his own plans, though. Cause of course he does.
