Twisted Wonderland Kaiju!AU Worldbuilding
I've been thinking for a while, and I realized that I needed to consolidate/create an essential "worldbuilding sheet" that lists ideas for the AU that I didn't think I'd be able to properly fit into the story. I didn't think I'd be able to get MIRA to explain either since there are aspects of this AU that the researchers and Yuu wouldn't be able to find out about that easily.
Plus, this is also a good way for me to introduce some of the ideas I've discussed with some friends on a Discord server!
To make it easier to note which points are just my comments/thoughts, I've put them in bold and itallics. Other stuff that's meant to be read like a description/summary will be in normal text. I'll likely be updating this post as more ideas come to mind so I can keep track of everything, but I will be announcing whenever there's an update!
///------///
Author Note: Put into perspective, the Kaiju living in the same world as humans is akin to the movie “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs” or “Journey to the Center of the Earth”. In this AU, there is a whole second world deep beneath the ocean to the point that the cavern has created its own unique weather system and developed an ecosystem that seems almost prehistoric. This is supposed to tie into the game and how Yuu is in a whole new world of magical beings, except they’re giant Kaiju!
The initial discovery of the world beneath the sea was by pure chance when it became clear that ships and airplanes had begun vanishing. By pinpointing the last known locations of the ships, they were able to discover a massive cave opening big enough to fit a large ship. Inside is a cave system of tunnels and water slides that travel deep into the earth before spitting out the lucky few who managed to survive the trip to the new ocean. Depending on the location of the opening they emerge from, the vessel may either arrive in a safe location or near the territory of massive aquatic predators. Not far from these openings, however, is the very island the story takes place.
Despite how destructive Kaiju can be, there are some who have cleared up the debris from these ships and planes. In fact, those particular Kaiju are the reason that the beach Yuu awoke near the "ship graveyard" as the beach will be nicknamed.
There are two entrances into this mysterious underground ecosystem: the cave system, and a massive whirlpool. Given its dangerous nature, ships often steer clear of it when it does form and was merely noted by the researchers as being there in favor of studying the island. The ones who discovered this secret entrance was a ship carrying poachers seeking to take advantage of the newly discovered creatures and resources on the island, only to find themselves caught in the whirlpool before arriving on the other side. Not ideal, but highly effective for sneaking past the security around the cave.
If the researchers learned of the existence of the whirlpool entrance, it would be theorized that the whirlpool formed long ago to draw water into the cavernous void beneath the crust. This would explain why it became a virtual time capsule of an ecosystem of mega fauna. Another theory is that the whirlpools form from the unstable energy created by the island itself. (A/N: It’s actually created by blot crystals lying at the bottom of the sea growing from the bones of a deceased Phantom Kaiju that had tried to escape the island to wreak havoc on the surface world but never made it out of the opening it had created. It’s quite possible that—even though the Phantom Kaiju isn’t moving—it is very much still “alive”.)
The magnetic disruption caused by the blot crystals over the whirlpool and near the cave are what essentially pulled in various aerial and sea-based vessels, which is why Yuu/Reader/MC finds the planes on the beach. One plane happened to get impaled on one of the blot crystals before it emerged on the other side, though how exactly it got on the beach is a mystery…
Blot comes in two forms: crystalline, and ooze. The crystal form—though relatively “safe”—generates a miasma fog that deters most creatures from approaching it, though it can still cause one to fall ill when exposed to the mist. Even the smallest fragment emits the miasma, making handling it difficult and dangerous. In ooze form, however, it can be unassuming and easily mistaken for tar pits at first glance. While not as numerous as the crystal form, it is by far the most dangerous. Any creature that falls into or consumes the ooze will become infected, their body slowly creating blot crystals all over their body. Once the crystals have completely overgrown on the body, the blot “controls” its new host to seek out its goal—though what it is or what it wants is unknown.
Kaiju have some form of immunity to the blot itself as it comes from the same source as their natural magic, though this does not mean they’re entirely protected. Depending on the amount of blot buildup, a Kaiju may grow sick or—in extreme cases—will be consumed by the blot and become little more than mindless husks over time. Should the latter situation happen and the infected Kaiju isn’t freed from its Overblot state, the Primal Guardians (aka the staff) have to put it down before it can escape the island and head for the surface world. (A/N: If you’ve seen Genndy Tartakovsky’s “Primal” and the episode “Plague of Madness”, that’s the general vibe of chaos and terror I’d imagine Kaiju Overblots have—minus the whole “body falling apart” deal!)
On the island itself (known as the “Night Raven Continent” due to the massive raven like formation at the top of one the mountains), crystals grow everywhere and form in greater concentrations around pools of energy located in key areas in each territory. The crystals contain strong magical energies that the Kaiju can feast on like rock candy when they require a boost, but the effects of this can be the equivalent of a “sugar crash” in terms of energy exhaustion. The pools of energy are safe for consumption, though transport of samples for research has been unsuccessful by researchers as the potency fades to little more than pure mountain water.
A/N: I wanted to find a way to include the starshards and sunshards in the game mechanics as a way for Kaiju to recharge in this AU, since the shards give you more “energy” to do exams or fight in the crafter’s gauntlet. Having there be pools of purple-blue “stardust” energy or “sunlight” energy seemed like an interesting thing to include, and I like the idea of magic glowy water! c:
A/N: The Great Seven exist in this AU, though their depictions come in the form of ancient statues scattered across the island and the very few painted murals left behind by the humans who dwelled on the island. As Kaiju, they are MUCH bigger than the current generations to the point one could literally call them “world-shapers”. The current Kaiju believe that the “Primordial Seven” were responsible for creating the underground world and all the islands within. This massive cave system goes all around the world and each have their own Kaiju and creatures (aka the Sunset Savanna, Scalding Sands, Briar Valley, etc).
Over time, researchers have begun to notice a pattern of behavior that the Kaiju will display on the continent. Every five years, most of the Kaiju will migrate to other islands far away. Given the distance and how treacherous the waters are, it’s been difficult for exploration teams to travel far enough to see these other islands. However, this migration seems to cycle through different seasons as Kaiju from other islands will visit as well. It’s unknown if this is a stop for them to rest before continuing on their way to their destination. Researchers began to call this the “Great Kaiju Migration”. In some cases, Kaiju visiting the island may exhibit nesting behavior and will have their litter/clutch. They only move on before or after their babies are able to walk and will carry them on their back. Those who have strong magic potential will be left in the care of the Primal Guardians.
Kaiju who have the potential to be strong or have a unique energy will either migrate to the island or are brought over by their parent(s) to grow and learn under the guidance of the Primal Guardians. Trein/Elderclaw is the oldest known caretaker who watched over young Kaiju, though now the mantle has been passed on to Crowley/Nevermore and Crewel/Crewelfang.
A/N: While most of the Kaiju raised on the island would be the mob students from the game, some of the main cast were also raised on the island by the staff due to being abandoned by their parent(s), given up for a better opportunity to grow, or were orphaned after losing their family to an attacking Kaiju/Phantom Kaiju. Silver, Deuce, Epel, and Ruggie are current known examples of Kaiju who were orphaned for some reason or given up by their family so they can grow and develop in an environment that can train them right. There may be others, I just haven't figured out who aside from those currently listed!

I sent an ask earlier and I am so sorry for spamming but I've been having brain worms for the Kaiju!au.
Like we sad Vargas and Kalim being all friendly but imagine little baby Cheka playing with Yuu.
Also, just imagine Cater, Vil, or Rook doing dancing from some music player that Yuu found. Which also makes me ask if they get their own little hideaway for their human buisness. (God Crowley when his hatchling leave the nest...)
And finally, when Yuu finally gets to cook, meat or fish, are the Boys gonna try to demand they have some. I just imagine Yuu giving a piece to grim and his pupils blow out from how good it is....and then words goes around and it's all over for any peaceful cooking with Yuu.
I'm actually in the process of answering that one! I just gotta figure out a few scenarios for it to make it fun~! >v< And please don't worry about spamming me with asks if you have ideas or thoughts you wanna share about my AUs! I love receiving these kind of asks! :D
Putting under a read more because I got a little carried away 😂
----
Oooh my goodness, someone teach lil’ kaiju Cheka to be gentle with the tiny human! X’D To be honest, I almost didn't put him or Falena in the AU...buuuuut now that I think about it, that would be a crime against adorableness, and I will not stand for this! Ò.Ó I shall rectify this~!
In the AU, Cheka would be a little bigger than Grim would be in terms of height. Not quite twice his height, but still pretty big! Now imagine the lil’ ragamuffin sweetheart just trotting along with Yuu perched on his back, playfully marching across a log bridge with Grim trotting behind singing “Hakuna Matata” while Ruggie and Jack have to keep an eye on them (because we know Leona would be taking a nap and hiding from his nephew even in this AU). The only difference between this version of the two is that whenever Cheka pounces on his uncle in a play fight, Leona actually will react as though he got hurt to encourage the hunting instinct.
Hey, he may not be happy having his nephew bugging him, but he knows it’s important to know how to survive (and he’d never hear the end of it from his brother or his brother’s mate)!
When it comes to doing “human business”, it’s agreed that there is a need for privacy even amongst kaiju, so if the human disappears for a short time behind a rock or in a bush, it’s not going to be questioned by curious kaiju. Luckily Yuu won’t have to worry about poison oak or poison ivy! Most of the poisonous plants that can cause an itchy reaction are too high up for them to reach, so it’s mainly the kaiju who would experience the terrible itchy curse. Good thing they’ve got Crewel to mix up some natural medicine for them—good luck making most of them take it though! XD
Anyway, moving on: music! One of the best ways to soothe the soul and calm the savage beast. When Yuu manages to get near one of the other abandoned facilities and gets to explore it with Grim (who is literally the only one small enough to fit inside with them), it was actually Grim who stumbled across a music player. He thought it was some weirdly shaped snack or chew toy.
This resulted in a bit of a tug-of-war between Yuu and Grim, and now Yuu has a new (slightly chewed) music player! Let’s see how it transpired and what resulted afterwards, shall we?
//
“Let’s see…junk, junk, trash…wow, did they really even leave anything worth using in this place?”
Digging around in the pile, Yuu sighed as they sat back and stared at the room. Of course, this place had been ransacked already…though by who exactly was unclear, but it seemed like things had been torn apart and whatever components or guts the tech had before was now gone. But there had to be something they could use in this place, right?
Crunch!
“Pleh!”
“Grimfang, no! Stop trying to eat the plastic you lil’ gargoyle!” Yuu scolded, sighing as Grimfang spat out a few shards that got stuck in his teeth. “Ugh…one of these days you’re going to eat something you shouldn’t, you know that? Don’t come crying to me when you get a tummy ache.”
He shook his head with a snort, giving Yuu a look that suggested he was offended by the very notion that he might get a tummy ache…or at least, that’s how Yuu interpreted it. It was odd how expressive the kaiju seemed to be, seeming almost…human-like in a way, though sometimes Yuu wondered if it was just their mind humanizing them to have company.
“Well, don’t say I didn’t warn you.” Turning back, Yuu scanned the wreckage to try and find something they could at least bring back. Even a writing utensil would do! “Okay…maybe we should try the next room and see what we can find.”
As they turned to go, they heard the familiar sound of tooth scraping against metal and sighed. What has he found this time?
“Grim, if I have to pull another pipe out of your gullet again, I’m gonna-” Yuu began before freezing, eyes growing wide at the familiar shape between Grim’s paws as he tried to gnaw on the corner: a music player. “H-hey, hey! No! Grim! Drop it!”
“Rrraowl!” he rumbled in response, his paws pulling the player into his chest fur protectively.
“Grimfang, no! That’s not a chew toy—hey! Get back here, you malevolent little gargoyle!!”
“Nyaarr!!”
“GRIIIIIM!!!!”
//Later//
The sound of static filled the den as Yuu sat in the nest, using Grimfang’s side as a pillow while they fiddled with the large and heavy music player. It had been one helluva chase around the facility, but eventually they triumphed and claimed their prize! Aside from a slight chewing on the frame, the kaiju’s fangs hadn’t really penetrated the shell and everything seemed to be in working order. To their disappointment though, they couldn’t get a radio signal no matter how many buttons they pushed or how much they turned the dial.
“Hey, MIRA? Does this island have any sort of radio signal or something?” they asked the computer around their wrist. “I can’t get anything on this player.”
“Greetings, Uhm Yuu. Answer: negative. This particular system cannot receive the signals from radio transmissions. Due to the nature of the island and its inhabitants, it is difficult to build and maintain any semblance of a tower to transmit signals across the terrain, requiring different methods to communicate with other facilities.”
“Darn it! So that means I can’t do anything with this hunk of junk?”
“Negative. As it is in proximity, I am able to access the system wirelessly and play music from the database.”
Eyes growing wide, Yuu asked, “There’s a music database…?”
“Affirmative. I have access to a wide selection of music from all manner of media pre-downloaded from the Dark Mirror Server. Dr. Willows was an avid enjoyer of music and always kept an up-to-date selection for her playlists to aid in her work. Would you like to create your own playlists?”
“Yes!”
“Mrr…?”
//End Scene//
And thus began Yuu’s task to set up their musical playlists…much to the kaiju’s confusion even when Grim tried to explain what he could translate. For the most part, they just figured it was a weird human thing…until Yuu played the first song. Was it some beautiful, soothing song, or an excitable bop that made them excited? Nope. It was neither: what was meant to be a fun introduction to a song turned into what essentially boils down to a warped death metal demonic screech and garbled static. The sound was so terrifying that Grimfang looked like a puffy ball of daggers, and Nevermore flared up his wings like some puffy shield in a panic.
That’s why it’s important to check the volume of the music before you play it first!
It was after that when Yuu noticed a difference in the kaiju when they played certain songs—namely instrumentals. For some like Pridefang, they noticed how much more relaxed he was when harp music was playing, while when it came to wind based music like flutes or chimes, Crystalflayer/Vil would croon and sing along and the more canine-like kaiju would practically fall asleep.
Then there were the silly moments with the music.
When Goldmaker/Kalim was visiting, Yuu was playing the song “Cus I’m Happy” at random…when they noticed the shiny beetle/dragon kaiju doing the tippy-tap dance like a dog on all six legs, bouncing here and there in time to the music like a kid jumping on the bed.
And then there was the time that Bruiser/Deuce and Feralfang/Epel were tugging on something that looked somewhat like a giant leather ball that had been popped (or at least, they thought it was a ball, though it could be a bit of carcass too). It didn’t seem like they were fighting over food and more like they were just…playing. It wasn’t until they had stood frozen in place for a moment that Yuu played the song “Cotton Eyed Joe”—
And they both tugged in time to the beat. (A/N: click link for doggos in reference to the song/scene!)
Aaaah, the joys of music!
Now as for the food, as good as fruit and the vegetables were, it was a little harder to find sources of protein that were safe for human consumption on the island…or at least, sources that didn’t want to eat or swallow them whole or were out of reach. Plus, they had a continuous source of fresh meat brought to them and Grimfang throughout the day with no hassle. They just needed a way to…prepare it.
When Yuu manages to light a fire in a makeshift firepit (guided by MIRA’s survival database), Nevermore was certainly surprised to find that his hatchling had finally accepted the meat offering and confused at what they were doing with it near the fire. It’s incredibly rare for any kaiju to actually “cook” their meat, and whatever constitutes as cooked meat would be little more than chewy charcoal, so if it turns out that’s what the little human likes then so long as they eat their fruits and veggies, he’ll allow it.
//
“Aaaaand…done!” Yuu uttered, tugging one of the sticks bearing individual chunks out of the ground. They could feel the juices from the meat that had dripped down the makeshift skewer, forcing them to take care as they adjusted it in their grip to avoid the hot parts before they took a tentative bite.
Just like the fruit, the meat was tender and full of flavor as the juices dripped down their chin with each bite. It wasn’t perfect, but it was so good to have a cooked meal again that Yuu didn’t care. They’d even been lucky to find a wall of salt when they’d gone exploring with Grimfang, so at least the meat had a little extra flavor to it! MIRA had mentioned before that the island had many herbs and spices that could be used for cooking. If they could get a hold of some of these, then their meals would be so much more fulfilling!
Curious sniffing caught their attention as they turned to see Grimfang, cerulean eyes staring at the chunks still cooking on the sticks around the fire. He’d long since finished his portion, so there was no way that he should still be hungry…right?
“Mrrlh?” he grumbled, carefully pawing at the dirt near one of the sticks but not actually touching it before giving Yuu a look.
“No, this is mine. You had yours already,” Yuu told him, turning their attention back to their food.
“Prrrrrr…”
‘…oh no…’ Slowly they turned their attention back to Grimfang…and immediately they found themselves struck by the biggest, brightest pair of kitten eyes they’d ever seen, the kaiju’s forelegs curling up to his chest as he rolled over onto his side to reveal his soft, fluffy tummy. ‘…darn it, why did I have to watch those kitten videos around him!?’
His paws began to open and close, mimicking the kneading motion that the kittens in the video had done earlier.
“…augh! Fine! But just this once, got it?” Yuu said, heaving a sigh as they took another stick out of the ground and—after playing hot-potato with the cooked flesh—tossed it into Grimfang’s waiting jaws with a snap. He was purring in triumph, giving Yuu a smug looking grin…
Before he froze, pupils growing so wide that they nearly engulfed the blue of his eyes. His whole body began to shiver, jaw slack as drool began to drip from his maw. Then—rearing back on his hind legs—his paws pressed against his cheeks as he swayed almost in pure bliss, a series of trills and chirps coming from him.
“Huh. Well, uh…glad you like my cooking, Gri—hey! Hey, hey, hey, hey! NO! Grim! You had yours, the rest are mine! Stoooop! Nevermore!!”
//The next day//
“Okay, here’s what’s going to happen: I’m going to cook some of this meat using the ingredients we just picked from the forest, and while the big hunk cooks on the spit, we’ll snack on the smaller pieces. This side is yours, and this side is mine. Got it so far?”
“Mrp!”
“Good. Don’t even think about stealing my share, or I’m never cooking anything again. Got it?”
“Myah!”
Shniff-shniff…
“Huh…? Wha-!? Scrapper, no! This is mine! I-wait, I-! What are you all even doing here!? Guys!”
//The next day//
“……did you guys know that Scrapper, Shellshock, Ashsong, and Heartbinder could even cook, or is this new?” Yuu asked, watching as Ashsong’s tentacles moved the herbs and spices across the cooking meat, Heartbinder’s claws and teeth ripping chunks off and handing them to the clover-marked Shellshock as he put them on skewers. Ashsong’s wings would occasionally flap, causing the flames to flare up with new life. Scrapper used his jaws to turn the makeshift spit that one of the kaiju had carved to turn the meat in a slow circle.
“Nyawr.”
“Thaaaat’s what I thought…more please!”
//
As it turns out, once the kaiju learn the secret to amazing food, it becomes one of the few things that keeps them from bickering and fighting and even have them cooperate together just to get a taste. It was a strange sight to see, and even MIRA commented that this was highly unusual behavior that hadn’t been recorded by scientists before. This raised far more questions than answers. Sure, the kaiju were dangerous, but they were intelligent.
Too intelligent…

Okay so. All of these questions are for the Kaiju Au.
Is the MC able to understand the kaiju or vice versa?
Why some of the categories in a few characters marked as unknown?
Do the kaiju have any human resemblance or are just 100% monstrous?
How does the MC gets close to the whole cast without being eaten?! I know they have the serum were they smell like a hatchling, but some species of animals don’t care about that and still eat or kill their newborns.
What was their first encounter with the Hearts gang and who was the first?
My, my, my! So many good questions~! OvO Let’s see if we can answer these!
First: at the moment, the MC/reader cannot understand what the Kaiju are saying save for the few who managed to mimic certain words (which is very few, and even then, they rarely use the words in the first place). Similarly, the Kaiju cannot understand the MC’s words. They do, however, recognize body language, facial expressions, and even tones of voice.
According to the researchers, there had been some speculation on whether or not it’s possible to teach them to speak, with certain Kaiju appearing to be skilled mimics (aka Ace, Jamil, Rook, Lilia, and Crowley). Unfortunately, due to funding and resources being limited, people had to be rearranged to different projects and left a virtual skeletal crew of one to try and continue this. So, it never really progressed beyond the few recordings of the researchers testing the Kaiju’s responses to specific words.
To answer your question about those with unknown categories, I based that mostly on the fact that we know very little to nothing of the magical skill of the characters in game (aka the staff for example). By extension, this means that they are the most reclusive and confusing of the Kaiju that the researchers have been studying, to the point that they don’t even know what category to put them under in the first place. Compared to the others who have been recorded fighting one another, there are those who either have not shown what their abilities are or haven’t had to demonstrate it.
For example, the other Kaiju will stop fighting if say Crowley or Crewel were to intervene, though it’s been noted to resemble a scolding before the two groups are separated. For those like Malleus and Lilia though, it’s because one has only partially been studied due to his reclusive nature (Malleus) while the other rarely seems interested in participating in any fighting and seems more inclined to watch (Lilia) and only intervening if it gets dangerously close to turning deadly.
When it comes to the Kaiju’s designs appearance-wise, for the most part their faces are more beastly than human (Crowley being an example given his head is more crow/raven than humanoid), but there are quite a few who have some semblance of their human faces! I’ve gotta sit down and do some sketches, but it can be a bit of a mix where they have either completely beastly faces (in which case it would be easy to tell who is who, like Crowley, Crewel, Malleus, and Jack for example), or they’ll have humanoid faces that look close to how they appear in game with some monster features (like off the top of my head: Cater and Riddle!). To put it simply, there’s about a 75-80% chance that the majority of them will bear little physical resemblance to their humanoid selves in game, while the remaining percentage will have humanoid traits.
As I mentioned before in another post, the serum won’t last forever and will likely wear off eventually. By that time, however, this will have given Yuu/MC/the Reader enough time for Grim, Crowley/Nevermore, and Crewel/Crewelfang to adopt them into the pack. Of course, Crowley, being the caretaker he is, would likely be the one who pretty much adopted the MC and, on occasion, near constantly gets assistance from Crewel to make sure they’re taken care of. This, in effect, means that the MC has not one, but two giant Kaiju in their corner to stare down/scold any of the other Kaiju packs thinking of hurting or eating the tiny human. Granted, this doesn’t guarantee that there aren’t some who’ll try and push their luck (like Floyd), but if anything, they at least have a better chance of getting close to a Kaiju without getting eaten!
The moment MC finds their weak spots for scritchies like they did Grim, though? Hoo boy, some of these Kaiju are going to demand more! Such a dilemma when MC is so small, so their hands and arms are going to be very tired before long. Grim is by far the easiest to pet, though! 🤣
As for the first encounter with Heartslabyul and who was the first one they met…well, technically, their first encounter was in the second chapter in the valley. But their official encounter with any of the Heartslabyul gang happens a few days after the valley incident when Yuu and Grim try to sneak away from the den while their “guardians” are either away or asleep, and it just so happens to be Ace/Slyfang that comes across them first and takes them to the Heartlands territory!
You can imagine the sheer amount of scolding that he got from both Riddle/Ragebloom and Crowley/Nevermore and Crewel/Crewelfang gave him afterwards. 😅 But in a way it worked out in Yuu’s favor as this led to more curiosity from the other Kaiju, so they wound up getting new visitors wanting to see them (and this is how they discovered that Cater’s/Flashwing’s moth and feather fluff is much softer than Crowley’s feathers…they temporarily got lost in the floof several times before the others realized that Yuu was fond of Cater’s coat and let them just enjoy nap time).
Honestly, the sheer amount of chaotic shenanigans as Yuu tries to befriend these giant creatures is going to be hilarious and absolutely terrifying! But hey, at least they’ll have a whole army of Kaiju to carry them around the island and protect them from the smaller scavenger creatures. Yuu is literally that one picture of a mama doggo curled up around a single pup: the safest human in the world~!

Hi! I’ve been following all your AU’s since they started and I love all of them! I think my favorite is actually turning out to be the Kaiju au though. Seeing as that’s my favorite, I wanted to ask something about it.
So, you said that the fruit and even the soil on the island is overly fertile and nutrient filled, will Yuu, who is still only a teenager, get affected by their long term stay on the island?🤔 Like, will they grow differently, have their DNA or abilities altered at all? I would see them growing bigger than average, growing faster, getting stronger, just all of the human possible abilities that the Top Evolved of humans can achieve! Like being less affected by extreme weather, better eyesight, better hearing etc.☺️
I love your writing and am waiting very excitedly for more stuff to come out!😄🥰
If they aren’t taken can I either be 🍄 or ❄️ anon please?😊 Stay healthy and get plenty sleep! And don’t forget to drink your water! 🥰💙
Hello there, 🍄 Anon! :D ( ❄️ Anon is also acceptable since those hadn’t been taken yet)
That means a lot to hear that you love all the AUs, and that you’ve been following them since I started working on them! ;;v;; And I get it! The Kaiju!AU is starting to turn into one of my favorites, though I love all of them. >v<
Anyway, I did indeed say that the soil was very rich. It may not be kaiju related (though still has giant monsters), but I drew inspiration for the island from the game Monster Hunter World and how the island’s environment is constantly changing and growing with vibrant life with the migration of the Elder Dragons like Zorah Magdaros. If you’ve not played the game or beat the main story before it goes into the Iceborne expansion, I don’t want to spoil it too much because the mystery and discovery of it was the fun part (at least for me)!
Anyway, the soil creating such a nutrient rich environment for plant-life was developed through the magic influence of the kaiju that lived on the island over the years to sustain themselves. Yes, they do eat the prey species that dwell on the island or in the water (and as MIRA mentioned in the second chapter, kaiju can eat one another to grow stronger), but for the most part it’s easier for them to consume the fruits, berries, roots, etc. across the island as it gives them the same amount of energy—if not more—than just consuming meat.
That doesn’t exactly mean Leona in this AU is more inclined to eat his veggies though! 😂
Now, as for the effects that it has on humans themselves…well, you’ve also gotta keep in mind normal human biology. In most cases, boys will stop growing around 16-18 years old whereas girls will stop growing around 14-16 years old (according to Google, so now you know why Riddle looked up to see if he would still grow! 😆). However, you do raise an interesting point that there would be long term effects to Yuu (or any human) dwelling on the island for a long period of time the more they consume the food grown from the soil.
That being said, however, I’d imagine that because the long-term effects of the food are largely unknown to the researchers, they likely would have started cultivating their own food sources using soil they brought from the mainland. Sure, they have eaten the food on the island, but for the most part it was in emergencies as only select few are willing or even potentially testing to see the effects it has on the human body. Meanwhile, some people didn’t care and just went for it because hey, giant food that tastes great? Why not!
Effects wise though, the amount of nutrients that a human would gain from said island’s bounty would be akin to a “super food” times ten. Health wise, those who might have had problems either physically or internally would find themselves essentially getting “repaired” from the inside due to the magic/energy that essentially flows through the island’s ecosystem. The reason being for this is that—much like how Crowley said that rest and maintaining a healthy lifestyle can help clear the built-up blot—the food on the island essentially helps to purge the blot in kaiju after a territorial fight. Hence, why the food can purge toxins and other unhealthy things in a human’s body—it treats it the same way as it would blot!
Now, it’s not a “be all, cure all” sort of deal, but pretty darn close given how tiny we are compared to the kaiju themselves!
Speed, strength, sight…it does help improve it in humans for sure, behaving like the super foods would and essentially leading their systems and body to a healthier lifestyle like having more energy to move around and do things and increasing cell regeneration to heal the body faster while they sleep. However, scientists have been observing the DNA samples of those who consistently consume food from the island and noted that the strains seem…healthier. Segments that once suggested a history of biological health issues have been either replaced by a new healthy strain or are simply…no longer there, filled in by a strange energy (hint: it’s magic, but there is a very, very, very small chance of the person developing magical abilities like the kaiju and may manifest in the family tree somewhere. In Yuu’s/reader’s case, though, you’re free to have fun with that as one of the lucky ones if that’s what you want!).
Yuu is definitely going to start developing some new physical capabilities the longer they’re on the island surrounded by kaiju and eating the food available, that much is true. But…that’s only the beginning behind what I have planned for our intrepid main character/reader. One I shall delve into lore wise as I progress in the chapters and random little skits~ >w>
That’s all I’ve got off the top of my head, and some things may adjust as ideas come to me! I’m still developing this world as I go now that I’ve got the base worldbuilding concepts down, and you guys are the ones who ask the interesting questions that get the ol’ noodle doodle brain thinking. It’s fun, and it delves into the speculative biology/evolution aspect of worldbuilding that I love so much! Keep throwing more worldbuilding questions at me, and I shall be a happy faun~! >w<
Thanks again for stopping by, remember to drink water and eat good food! :D
Also, in case you guys have never heard of it: speculative evolution focuses on hypothetical scenarios in the evolution of life, and a significant form of fictional biology. Think of it as how writers speculate the type of environment that an animal or a being lives in as well as how their biology allows them to survive and adapt to it or how they developed/evolved natural resistances over time! Like how giraffes developed long necks over generations to be able to reach the leaves in the tall trees, or how apes developed the use of tools to obtain food easier.

Hehe wait does the lil human get treated like a dormouse in a teapot by the heartslabyul Kaiju? I feel like that would be cute (*´ω`*)
Pffft!! Dawww that sounds so adorable and also terrifying when you're so tiny 🤣
On one hand, the jam made from the mashing of the local fruit is delicious, but they don't want to feel sticky from it all! Not that it would last long enough for them to take a bath when Grim is more than happy to lick the jam off their face (and if the lil' human has hair regardless of the length, then they'll wind up with one helluva cowlick!)
The observations of the different packs of kaiju has been one of great interest amongst the researchers, but none more than the Heartslabyul pack and the incredibly unusual behaviors demonstrated by them. It seems as though there is no real rhyme or reason behind them, let alone how Ragebloom (aka Riddle) seemed most persistent in running around for several hours around a cave system beneath the ocean waves whenever it rains and he gets drenched.
Could it have something to do with why they're never found during rainstorms or why they immediately bolt for cover when it does start to rain? Such a mystery...

Yoooo that kaiju!au of yours is amazing! Hehe, I'm kinda curious about what was running through Crowley's head when he scooped up our lil protag - may I ask about RSA though? Would they be like researchers on video logs (like the ones mentioned in the rules page iirc) or other kaiju just hanging around
(also also I hope you have a nice day lol)
Thank you so much! It took me a while to figure out how I was going to work the opening, but it all came together in the end~! ÙwÚ
Well, given that Yuu and Grim had landed in the serum, it did as was designed (a little too well) and confused his senses into making him believe that they were both newborn hatchlings even if they're both technically teenagers or adults! Now, normally he would have taken his time to try and figure out what was going on with these two and why one looked like the little ones he'd often seen running around, but if you paid close attention to what happened right after he scooped the two up...well, let's just say that I left a little foreshadowing on one of this AU's antagonists who will be appearing in the future, and our little protagonist is the main target~ >w>
At the moment, I've mostly considered keeping RSA as fellow kaiju that live on a separate island not entirely close enough to cause a territorial dispute but still enough that it would be chaos and mischief abound...though I might consider having them be researchers since you brought it up. There's just so little information on RSA other than what we've been given so far, and I do want to work with them...but aside from Che'nya and Neige and even Ambrose, I don't want to settle on one idea if it turns out something better comes along. 😣
......then again......I just had another idea, though given that this idea is part of plot point that hasn't even been revealed yet, so I'm gonna have to do a little brainstorming~ ÒwÓ
For the researchers, for the most part they will be technically "OCs" (which is a first for me on any of these AUs), which would be the equivalent of the mob students but given names. These characters are going to be designed to help move the plot along and explain the world that we've found ourselves in through video logs accessed by MIRA and the Dark Mirror.
Of course, I'm also considering possibly allowing some suggestions for researchers and their roles, though I'd have to figure out how I'm gonna go about that since I just thought of that. 🤔
Also thank you! So far my day has been wonderful! Got some much-needed kitty cuddles this morning, saw all the lovely responses and asks regarding this AU, and I'm having so much fun answering these asks on my day off before the weekend! What could be better~? :D

Sorry for sending so many of these one after the other lmao
Do any Kaiju like cuddles?
WAit I gotta double check but if Sebek is, like, part crocodile/alligator do he,,, carry babies on mouth to keep them safe,,,? (I can imagine the terror any humans woulda felt the first time THAT happened lmao)
ALSO does cay-kun have an odd fixation on cameras? Like his human twst counterpart lol
This AU is making my brain run wild lmfao
Hey, that's perfectly fine! You guys are pretty much the reason I'm able to even think of things to help with the worldbuilding and taking things into consideration I hadn't even thought of! If your brain is running wild with ideas, don't hesitate to share them with me~! >v<
Sebek is a hybrid between a crocodile and a cougar according to the species list, so you can imagine that the first time Yuu and Grim found themselves being carried around in the pouch inside his jaws, they were understandably terrified out of their mind 😂 It doesn't get much less terrifying afterwards, but once they realize he's keeping them safe it becomes somewhat more bearable. At least it's not completely dark with the transparent membrane! They just need their hearing to be spared from the sheer volume of the sounds he makes 😔
Well, given that Cay-Cay is based on a bird and a moth, he most certainly is attracted to the shiny lenses of cameras! It's hard to say for sure when he figured out that they were meant to take photos of the kaiju and environment, but he started displaying unusual behavior shortly after the researchers began their studies: setting up flora around him in what could be considered a decorative display, shifting between light and dark shadows using his wings, and making sure to tilt his head just right before the image is taken. Researchers have sworn that he's hamming it up each time, but it's been an interesting behavior that they never thought they'd observe beyond him grooming himself in the water's reflection!
As for any kaiju that might like cuddles...I suppose it depends on which group you study! One thing is certain though: very rarely will you ever find a kaiju sleeping alone at night due to the temperatures on the island reaching below freezing temperatures even in the hottest places during daylight.
Within their own pack, kaiju are highly social creatures and can be observed grooming each other or displaying playful like behaviors similar to how cats and dogs might play (let's just say that one researcher wanted to test something, and now laser pointers or any variation of the sort has been banned from the island). When it is time to rest, however, there seems to be a pecking order of sorts amongst some of them.
For example: Vil is less likely to have anyone from his pack use him as a "pillow" yet is perfectly content using his wings to keep the others warm (much to Epel's annoyance, but it's hard to argue being nestled under warm, soft feathers when the earth is nothing but frost and ice outside, so he'll take the warm!). Meanwhile, Heartslabyul will pile up together in a large "cuddle pile" to the point it's hard to tell where one starts and the other ends!
When there are perceived hatchlings nearby, however, it's instinct to have them in the center of such piles to keep them warm, meaning that it's the safest place you could ever be!

Kaji is adorable Au but I would be shitting myself constantly.
Is the boys more softer in this or more like their canon?
Yuu will be fighting bugs for protein.
And for the water,Have you seen how sea life blands in the water perfectly.Yuu just minding their business gathering water for drinking and BOO a smiley Floyd staring into your soul.
Love your work
As much as I love these guys, I would be freaking out too 😂
Eeeeeeh...the boys are somewhat softer, though for the most part they're run by feral instincts and only kept under control by the pack mentality of whoever is in charge. They are intelligent, but if I had to compare it, imagine these monsters having the same chaotic aggression and "I do what I want" attitude and combine it with a feral cat who won't hesitate to either claw the hell out of your hand or will decide to hesitantly receive scritchies from you...except on a much larger scale. óvò;
Well you're right in that Yuu might have to learn to defend themselves. It's the game "Grounded" all over again, except instead of being shrunk to the size of an ant everything is huge and ready to try and take a bite out of them or not know where they're stepping. Luckily they won't always have to worry about hunting for themselves for the time being! Not with Crowley and the other staff making sure they get plenty of food!...granted, they'd need to figure out how to make a fire to cook everything, but at least MIRA will be able to inform them on what's safe to eat and what can make them sick!
Honestly? I can see Yuu getting absolutely terrified by kaiju!Floyd while trying to get some fresh water. Despite being aquatic and mostly found in salt water, that doesn't mean they're weak to fresh water: they just have to find a channel that's big enough to swim through to a large water source!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you love what I create, and I'll keep doing my best to make more good content~! >w<

Twisted Wonderland Kaiju!AU Note:
So in the summary here that discusses the cast and tools and such, it occurred to me that "basic clothing" was a bit too vague and up to interpretation like say a T-shirt and pants or shorts. So to help with visualization and draw more inspiration from the game, the clothing that Yuu was wearing is the same uniform that we see our Overblot boys wearing in chapter 6 (English server peeps, you are in for one HELLUVA rollercoaster ride of chaos when that chapter drops)! The outfit design in question would be more suitable given that duller colors are much harder to spot compared to bright and obnoxious colors that some animals can see very well, so it wouldn't exactly do well to have any humans wandering around the island looking like a tasty snack for some hungry predator or looking like a play thing for some massive kaiju. >.>;
I'll do some more development on the researchers and whatnot, but I wanted to make note of this while the thought was in my head. UvU
Spoilers for English server players under the cut with reference to the outfits from chapter 6 in question, but that's the only spoiler I will give for now! I know some people don't like getting spoilers until the actual thing drops.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is what I would imagine the outfit Yuu wears in the prologue of the Kaiju!AU. The only difference is that they won't have the collar around their neck as you see with Riddle in the battle scene!

Hiii this might sound stupid, but regarding your Kaiju AU- would the ORCA (or whatever they called it in the godzilla movies) exist on the island? The one where they combine sounds to communicate with the Kaiju.
You can ignore this if you're uncomfortable answering it lol
Ooooh this isn't stupid or uncomfortable at all, Nonny! 👀 In fact, you've given me information that I hadn't found on my initial searching for ideas! (I still need to rewatch the Godzilla movies, but I'll get to that. Right now, I'm focused on the monster vibes versus the human/researcher vibes~!)
You are right in that it's called the ORCA in the series, by the way! :D
Now, as for the Kaiju!AU...
I'd have to say yes, there were attempts to create a system that would mimic the sounds made by kaiju to try and communicate with them. Tests were relatively unsuccessful in the earlier days (which led to another incident where Crystalflayer got offended and impaled the facility with giant crystals--no one was killed, but more than one person needed a change of clothes afterwards!), so the researchers went through a lot of trial and error to try and find the right combination.
Eventually, they did accomplish this by observing the reactions of the kaiju to recordings of their alphas (though these "songs" didn't work on Nevermore and the other ancients). The first test involved replicating Ragebloom's calls to his pack mates on Slyfang and Bruiser, which resulted in the two of them falling in line. An unusual reaction, but promising for research potential!
...of course, just like the ORCA in the Godzilla series, it wouldn't be long before someone decides to use it for their own selfish desires.
As of now (translation: until I figure out how to incorporate this into the plot/lore and what to name this thing), no one knows what happened to this device or if it's even still functioning. All that is known is that using it unleashed unspeakable horrors slumbering under the island...and they will stop at nothing until all have been consumed by the inky darkness within.

hello! i came here from ao3 after reading the first fic instalment and, wow, am i hooked. one question, what do the categories mean? is it like scp classes/danger levels?
Hello! Glad to have you here, and I'm glad you liked the fic! :D
Okay, so basically yes, the categories would be comparable to SCP classes/danger levels. Category I is essentially the weakest while category IV and V are the most dangerous/catastrophic to deal with.
So essentially, all the dorm leaders would be category IV and V to indicate their danger due to their overblot from the game and their magical potential. I just translated it to match them! :D

so, a Godzilla like au? I feel like a big question would be if the kaiju can understand Yuu? If not are there certain words or phrases they understand?
Yup! Godzilla-like AU~! UvU
To a degree the kaiju can understand what Yuu/the humans on the island were saying, but as for the actual meanings and such they rely on tone and visual cues to get the intent behind what's being said.
The ones who have spent more time around the researchers have a bit more of an understanding on some of the words that are used and the intent behind them based on how the researchers introduced them to the language. It was akin to how we would teach young kids how to say certain words using visuals--car while showing a car, cat while showing a cat, tree while showing a tree, rock while showing a rock, etc...
They can't really speak the words due to either their vocal chords or the structure of their mouth (though some can come very close), but they can understand it well enough to know what the researchers "want" (one kaiju with a navy-blue spade-like marking on its face brought them an entire tree like a dog with a stick and the researchers had to deal with a massive tree blocking their facility for a few days).
Of course, kaiju have a different method of communication outside of roars, snarls, hisses, and bellows that only vaguely uses low frequencies. There is, however, one unique method of communication that is entirely unique to the kaiju themselves.
Researchers have been struggling to figure out how to describe this sensation or give it a name, the only explanation they have being that they would see flashes of color in their mind or waves of shifting colors that undulate in time with the sounds the kaiju made. Some can experience it better than others, but not on the same level as another kaiju according to the scans they managed to get. The only thing they could think of calling it is, "resonance echoes", an effect that Yuu will soon experience.
To put it simply, it would be akin to echolocation or the fact that elephants can communicate through vibrations to one another (or if you've seen "Abominable" then it would be akin to that, just less visual for most kaiju while some like Malleus can manifest it to that degree)!
I'll be elaborating more on the "resonance echoes" in future posts, but for now this is me worldbuilding more for this AU as I work through the next part, which should hopefully be done soon once I can get the characters to cooperate. 😂

I have question, in the Kaiju au. Are the peeps ij the island aware of humans or no?
The majority of them are aware, yes! For the most part they don't really bother with the human researchers that hide in their little "burrows". What good would it do wasting energy on chasing small creatures not even bigger than a fang? It would be the equivalent of a tiger trying to get into an ant hill for a small mouthful when there's a perfectly good wild boar right there!
Of course, that doesn't mean that they want anything to do with these human researchers. Only a select few will allow themselves to even venture close enough to examine these tiny creatures, let alone let any of these tiny creatures get close enough to even touch them (let alone collect samples). Otherwise, they pretty much just ignore them.
Now, for those humans who want to capture the giant monsters for other purposes......
Well, let's just say that there's a reason the beach Yuu/MC/Reader woke up on has a lot of new additions to it. 🙃

What if Kaiju!Rook can mimic other Kaijus sounds and voice. It's almost the same sound, and when researchers analyze the sound Rook make with the Kaiju he was copying, the match of the vocalization is about 95-98%
I thought maybe this can be the equivalent of Rook's French.
In reference to this ask here:
Ooooooh, that’s an interesting theory there! In a way, it matches what marine biologists discovered when it came to orcas and dolphins: the orcas communicated with dolphins using dolphin-like whistles, clicks, and buzzes to communicate with their social partners!
If we take that into consideration with Rook and his normal language, it would be safe to say that—much like how he taught Ace how to talk to the lost hedgehogs Ace’s dorm uniform card—he’s very skilled at mimicry and communication. So how would this translate in Kaiju language? How would it sound to human ears?
Well, normally, when he speaks in his native language, it sounds musical—like windchimes mixed with a low rumbling tremor that fills the air with a thrum (kinda like a pleasant tingling sensation if he's right next to you). Which can be quite jarring hearing it come from something that looks like he should be as loud as Leona, given he looks like a lion made of stone (with mantis limbs for hunting/striking). Perhaps due to the nature of his body structure, there’s a hollowness in his chest or throat that allows wind to pass through and mimic the sounds of wind-based instruments like an ocarina made of clay? Hmm...something to think about. 🤔
Either way, this same skill allows him to replicate the tones and pitches of the other Kaiju so he can communicate with them, mimicking Vil and Epel more often than not since he spends more time with them as part of their pack (or perhaps Vil calls it a flock? Hmm…). Though on occasion when he either doesn’t know the word or doesn’t feel it would be strong enough, he will revert to his original language. This same skill—however—may also have been the catalyst for the researchers to get so close to making a breakthrough in communicating with the Kaiju themselves!
If only their efforts hadn’t been cut so short before Yuu’s awakening... U.U

Hi I just wanted to send this to you. I hope you are having a good holiday, despite your phone dying on you. I wanted to thank you so much for having these fun and interesting aus for twisted wonderland. I can't wait to read more of your work. I recently got obsessed with the kaiju au and can't wait to see more of your writting for it!
Awww thank you Nonny! That's so sweet of you ;;v;;
Despite the phone situation, I had a pretty good holiday and spent time making cookies with my mom! And so far I'm loving the new phone, just getting used to some of the new controls. XD
Thank you so much for the kind words! I love each of the AUs I've been working on, and I've actually got two or three new AUs in the works. It might be a while before I reveal those ones because I love making sure the worldbuilding is settled as well as the "how Yuu arrived/awoke in (AU) Twisted Wonderland" planned out. In the meantime though, I'll keep working on the AUs I currently have!
I'm getting close to completing the next part of the Kaiju!AU I've been writing, so I hope you enjoy it when I get it finished and posted! >v<
