#very much in the ‘left handedness is the devil’ era

my mother taught me to crochet when i was young. she was left handed, so she taught me how in the bathroom mirror so her hands would be in the right position.
she learned to crochet from her grandmother, who was right handed. her grandma was the one that originally used the bathroom mirror to teach her granddaughter properly.
i find something poetic about that. here in this bathroom mirror, through generations, we adapt to our young who have a different way of learning and interacting with the world

When Crowley does something nice for Aziraphale, he’s on his right side instead of his left
Ya know how Crowley is always to the left of Aziraphale? Because of the whole, “left side is evil” thing?
Examples for those of you who don’t know:
[ Matthew 25:41
“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.]
[Historically, the left side, and subsequently left-handedness, was considered negative in many cultures. The Latin word sinistra originally meant "left" but took on meanings of "evil" or "unlucky" by the Classical Latin era, and this double meaning survives in European derivatives of Latin, and in the English word "sinister".]
So if the left side is evil, that means the right side is the opposite, no?
Well, I realized that every single time Crowley does something nice for Aziraphale, he’s on his right side instead of his left.
1.) Cleaning the stain off Aziraphale’s coat

Aziraphale was actually the one to turn that way (because the stain was on his right shoulder). Could signify the fact that Aziraphale is the one pushing Crowley into doing good? Which he literally did during this scene.
2.) “They’re murdering each other?”, “No, they aren’t, they’re all having miraculous escapes.”
Tumblr media
Crowley was on Aziraphale’s left UP UNTIL this exact second. Aziraphale stayed behind, looking out the window, and Crowley went over to the right instead. Again, he’s doing good, by not letting the people kill each other.
3.) Agreeing to miracle Hamlet’s success for Aziraphale’s sake

Again, on his right side.
4.) Saving Aziraphale from guillotine

5.) Saving Aziraphale from the Nazis

6.) After saving the books
Tumblr media
Crowley starts off on the left side as usual. Then when he hands over the books, they meet in the middle, equal, face to face. And then he goes off to Aziraphale’s right side.
There were more scenes than this where Crowley was on the right side (such as the entire Bandstand scene) but most of them were in the car, which I honestly don’t feel counts entirely because the steering wheel is on the right side of the Bentley (except maybe during the Holy Water scene, because Aziraphale did go against Heaven to do that). I’m going to fit all of those scenes in in a part 2 of this post.
But this particular post is just pointing out the fact that Crowley was on Aziraphale’s right side when doing kind or nice things, particularly for the angel, which I found interesting! Had to have been deliberate. Ultimately, I feel it stands for the fact that Aziraphale basically brings out the side of him that isn’t very demonic at all -- Aziraphale is what creates that balance. They are yin and yang, after all, and yin/yang do have tiny pieces in the middle, the color of the other side. Neither is fully good or fully evil, they’re both BOTH, just one is more dominant than the other.
The two of them basically ARE yin and yang personified (or, occultified, heh). They are so much more than husbands, they’re - well, ineffable.

how quickly alucard regenerates depends on his control release state ( how much of his power his binding sigils restrict )
level 3 / default state. when fatally wounded, he’s forced to break down the entire manifested body into sticky black ooze and completely reform it
level 2 / a relative mid-point. he’ll quickly repair lost limbs and bullet wounds, but decapitations still require a full restart.
levels 1 & 0 / instantaneous repairs to being even fatally mutilated. can still function without a head, or after being literally split in two.
alucard is left handed, though originally trained to use his right. vlad, after all, was raised in an era and religious climate where left-handedness was a sign of the devil. he’s now functionally ambidextrous, but, post-death, returns to favouring his left.
he’s able to ‘speak’ without opening his mouth in whatever form it is he’s taken. likewise, his voice and lip movements may sometimes appear out of sync.
in that same vein of visual errors, he’s not too noticeably inhuman until you’ve spent enough time with him. alucard is a very good mimic, and while he’s certainly strange and striking-looking, his off-putting nature is something that’s very difficult to place. there is no singular root cause, but rather, many small and missable cues:
he casts no shadow unless consciously creating one
he has absolutely no scent at all
his skin isn’t cold, but neither is it warm
he doesn’t breathe unless he’s smoking
he almost never blinks
his hair will move independent of wind or motion and changes lengths at whim
he’ll move without sound, or the sound will be mistimed
his voice might sound immediately near even when he’s a block away
he has no true form. even the ocean of blood and bodies integra dubs his ‘true face’ isn’t really it; he’s just a shapeless hungry void stuffed into varying bags of skin.
