Symbolism behind chapter 4 of THH body discovery
As some of you probably noticed, Sakura's body discovery look way different from the other ones, that we have seen in this all or all the other games. Why? What does it mean? Sit down and have a nice read.
Yes, I am including the picture of dead Sakura. This game came out more than 10 years ago, don't get surprised for getting spoiled.
Let's start with how it's different than the other body discoveries. We don't see what Makoto (aka the protagonist) had seen or how the body really looked like. Sakura is shown in those golden-white colors, we don't see the background, we just see her with a single light on her. We can barely see any blood here, even though we know that Sakura did have those on herself.
Notice how usually with body discoveries, the creators try to make it as shocking and scary as possible. Loud, scary music plus shaking dark screen with camera zooming on the most bloody parts.
This isn't the case with Sakura.
Sakura's body discovery music is calm and the camera moves slowly. The whole cutscene is not supposed to be a jumpscare or anything. It has those feelings of calmness of some sort.
What does all of this mean, though?
Sakura's death was a suecide as most of you probably know. She knew she was going to die, (unlike, most of the other victims of this killing game who were rather caught by surprise), she was ready to face that death, she planned it (which doesn't mean she wasn't scared at all ofc).
This is why there's so much calmness in her cutscene, it tells us about the way Sakura died. Especially that Sakura's death was a sacrifice, she killed herself knowing she will be saving her friends. That also brings us to Sakura's smile and, that I think can be only seen in this one scene but idk her dying was a way for her to escape the killing game and trick the mastermind. The mastermind wanted to use her to get themselves another murder but she managed to escape that at the end. (Ogami also escapes all the stress and fear she went through the kill game, at that point )That again, proves the peace and maybe some sort of satisfaction in Sakura's death.
Moving on to the light, we can see it's foucsing only on her. The whole background is black, nothing matters here except her. The black background, just like the light coming from above on just her, is there to show the importance of Sakura's death.
Last but not least, I want to talk about the colors. The artists chose to draw Sakura in this golden color palette. I think this is another way of symbolizing Sakura's sacrifice and also her golden heart.
Sakura was an incredibly good person, with a heart bigger than her strength. Her death was special, it was the first sacrifice in the whole series and the first suecide. The creators did an amazing job with this body discovery.
