BUT I do not want anyone to engage with this so I'm hiding the link - not just because it's ridiculous but because the best way to confine rpf ship drama is to leave it alone. (edit: so I lied abt this asofgsalfga I did reply to one person but only bc they put it in the main tags) I don't rly like blocking but I also don't want to have to create a million filtered tagged posts on my dash - and tbh I don't think anyone I've blocked will care anyway. this way I can still see carlando content for fun but none of the fandom nonsense.

I'm mostly posting this bc up til now I rly wanted to set aside the behavior of the fandom to continue enjoying carlando content but I just can't be bothered anymore. between the larrying and the rampant, disgusting casual misogyny - and ofc the competing with which friendship or fake ship blorbo 1 and 2 are "happier" with asgfjsalfglja. and it's not just this latest thing I get sent tweets and posts abt whole agendas to "prove" that Lando isn't "happy" with Oscar/Martin/insert man who is currently considered threatening to their concepts of Lando's relationships. some ppl even friendzone Max F and Lando and pretend Carlos means more to Lando than him so there's no limits to the insanity.

so for me atp there just isn't enough about carlando to make it worth constantly being reminded that the way too many of it's fans truly believe that these are two men are either as close to each other as they are to their real, acknowledged close friends and/or in a secret gay relationship, that their girlfriend(s) are cold-hearted PR plants/escorts rigged by an evil all-controlling PR department and once the blorbos are freed of homophobic forces (oh god Carlos' old tweets tiktokboom) they can finally have the kind of toxic heteronormative version of a queer relationship that is right with the universe.

like, rpf is only meant to be for fun and more important it is meant to be kept away from anyone involved/the general public !! but when ppl's delu results in the actual women these men choose as their partners being at best aggressively cropped out of pictures and videos* and at worst stalked, harassed, their families and employers harassed, abuse and slander left in comments sections on popular social media and team pages - yea carlando laughing together sometimes and slowed down bro hugging isn't enough lol

it’s also slightly the fact that if you picked a bunch of Lando’s reactions to Carlos and Daniel and no one knew context clues then no one would be able to tell which one he’s reacting to. Carlos/Daniel teases Lando, Lando shriek laughs and goes red, James Corden style gay innuendo, slightly tense undercurrent of men wanting to one up each other with jokes, iterations of bromance that are half sincere and half for the cameras, hashtag hashtag. Lando goes to Daniel's ranch on a whim, dando is special. Lando goes to Carlos' sister's huge society wedding, carlando is special. Lando's family likes Lando which makes carlando special. Lando and Daniel share mutual friends outside of racing which makes dando special. like, it's the same dynamic just rotated around at different times. I enjoy both ships to a certain degree but I'm kind of mystified at ppl choosing to see them as super deep and meaningful and worth fighting over.

side note g o d do I fully embrace that ppl who do these ship competitions and larrying nonsense have ZERO interest in landoscar bc we love Lily and support Lando in his many probable conquests - and bc the Lando and Oscar dynamic isn't a big bromance for the cameras and has no fake gay for fangirl consumption.

like yes pls absolutely consider landoscar inferior to carlando if it means they stay away from inventing conspiracy theories and saying they "just have a bad feeling" about Lily and start attributing everything Lando has achieved to his teammate instead of himself.

also I could be SO incredibly mean using charlos vs carlando and the difference between PR and the public trying to tear one apart but it persisting vs PR and the public being a major factor in the other persisting at all. or the fact that charlos does everything ppl want carlando to do. but there's no point spending more time on people who think that two adult men - who've both said they're as much rivals as friends and the bromance is more what the public sees - are laughing in metrically different and lesser degrees of happiness with their new teammates vs a former teammate.

like, as long as I can now not be exposed to those opinions then they have a perfect right to express them. god knows I'm not saying my blogs is worth a damn but at least I don't trash anyone's gf or try to stunt on other rpf ships for no reason

tl;dr I'm p much done trying to make carlando worthwhile for me to rb or post about. I enjoy seeing it on my dash for myself but that's it! no one will be affected by this change lafhlsahf

*I know there are a few ppl out there who do this bc they have a no-private life policy on their blogs and that's np. they aren't die hard carlando fans tho.

being in school to become an english teacher rn i’m really aware of how political an english language arts classroom can be in the us and how if they aren’t taught right, they can be dangerous and detrimental to Black and Brown students (is teaching grammar as Standard English and correcting AAVE as thought it’s incorrect or the fact that canonical teaching texts are whitewashed and straight and men) so a lot of the work i do is constantly unlearning certain social norms and learning to be better for my future students (knowing that i am a cis white woman). i think a lot of white people don’t realize that being anti-racist is a constant and you have to constantly learn and check yourself. your post breaks my heart bc i never want my students to feel that way about me. i know it’s not your job to teach me, and you are under no obligation to answer this, but is there anything that comes to mind that might help white people push past that barrier you keep encountering? (when i say i work at unlearning everyday i def don’t mean i’m done reformed r*cist. we live in a society built on white supremacy and it’s so ingrained that half of the time people who do not experience the oppression have to learn to how deeply it’s rooted. i come from a small town so i’m a little late to learning. and being an ally or an activist is a constant action rather than a stagnant label. i suppose i would like to know, sincerely, how to better be active rather than performative.)

i think the most obvious thing to do is . ..  just believe people of colour . if they say ‘ hey . . this person seems racist ‘ or ‘ i don’t like this vibe . . ‘ . don’t downplay it or minimise it , or LAUGH IT OFF or assure them they’re wrong . maybe it’s just me , but i honestly think sometimes i just get a Weird Feeling from someone , and no they haven’t done anything outrightly ‘ racist ‘ but they do little weird things , or treat me Slightly differently than they’ll treat their white friends . . and it’s not enough for me to say ‘ you’re a racist ‘ , but it’s enough for me to be like ‘ i kinda get a racist vibe from them . ‘ and i wish more white people believed me when i said that . suddenly every white person is a subject matter expert on racism . objectively , white people know you can’t discriminate against race . they know , for the most part , not to say racial slurs or wear other cultures clothes . they know that . but it’s the smaller more casual bits of racism that they just don’t see and will never see , and more importantly . . never believe . if i have a feeling somebody doesn’t like me because i’m brown / a woman . . 90% of the time i’m proven to be fucking correct ! our guts have TRAINED themselves our whole lives to be on the lookout for people who don’t like us and will never like us , and will treat us differently.  so , please , believe us , if we say we get a weird feeling from someone.

also . . white people listen to white people . if your friend says a racial slur constantly , don’t laugh with them . don’t stay silent. don’t just stare at them . ask them why they said that . make them uncomfortable , just like they make people of colour uncomfortable . stop lowering ur standards when it comes to friends and ppl ur with  , too ! stop letting them get away with that stuff ! it isn’t just up to people of colour to educate u , but u can educate other white ppl !

and please stop inviting me to events that are primarily white ! workplaces are white ! parties are white ! i have to Rearrange myself for every primarily white place i go to , and guess what . . that’s a lot of places !!!! i had to tell a couple of my friends very seriously , ‘ look i appreciate the invite , but everyone there is going to be white ‘ and i’m telling u 1000% right now , that isn’t EVER going to be a safe space for a person of colour . never ever ever.

please be more aware of how many white people there are in a place versus how many people of colour are there . think about it this way . . if u identify as a female , would u feel safe being in a space that’s All Men or predominantly just Men and then a lot of ‘ not like the other girls ‘ type of girls ? no . u probably wouldn’t . it’s exactly the same when ur the only poc in a room /  space . 

i’m not a teacher nor do i know anything about teaching , so i can’t give u advice on what to do in a classroom . also , i’m not ‘ all sayer ‘ on things race , by any means . and i never will be . this is just my Experience and my thoughts and my personal views . i will never claim to say this for all people of colour .

2. What is their voice like?

Right off the bat with a question i cant fully answer. How do you describe a voice?… Well, in DAI he rolls with the Male British Voice but it’s not really how i hc him…. Hmm… Well, it’s like, i guess on the deeper side but not that much - unless he drops a few octaves for… reasons. It got a certain purr to it, that also gets evident when drops deeper. On average, as he usually speaks in a loud and cheerful manner, sounding higher and clearer, you don’t really observe those deep tones his voice gains when he’s speaking relaxed or sleepy or seductive and such. That tingling purr is easily shifted to bone shaking growl territory though when he is angry and/or out for blood. yeah he’s an animalIf this gives you some idea….

4. What is their most embarrassing memory? 

Oh boiii, he got MANY. Yet few that he isn’t fast to admit and let people have fun on his expense, often even laughing at himself with them. But there’s one thing that comes to mind that he tries hard to change in stories.

He used to have very long hair, the exact dark blood red of their mother’s and he had pride in it, thick and strong and brilliant like hers, tied high with her ribbon the smol twins found around where she died (long heroic and tragic story). When his long hair comes up in stories or other chatting he admits that he had “lost it” a few years ago, and if pried further he only says that it was to a sharp dragon spike and fire.

His sister tells a completely different story than what people usually assume from that though, if you are worthy and buy her a drink for it XD

What actually happened is that he rolled into the campfire in his sleep, and his sister fixed his remaining hair into a passable shape with her dragon spike knife, hands shaking from laughter.

You know how he sleeps XD. Brain out cold, body moving around like an octopus, drawn to warmth. Touch is the only sense that has live connection to his brain and can sound the wake up alarm. Having a fire going is a big hazard, he learned the hard way even before the hair incident. On the fateful dawn this happened, his sister kept second watch as always, keeping one eye out and one on Soren, pushing him back under the small tent with her boot when adjustment was necessary. (when alone he ties his belt to stuff and sets traps that pain-jolt him awake if triggered). Everything seemed quiet and peaceful, no big or off movements far and wide, some birds waking, a fox sneaking by, Soren half curled on the tent post, nice and tight… A perfectly average quiet morning. Cold and humid, irking her since her watch started, by dawn the languid, teasing dance of the campfire’s thin flames didn’t help her bladder either. So she just figured she could take two minutes to take a piss. WRONG. In that two minutes Soren got brushed by a small breeze carrying the warmth of the fire, he pooled off of the tent post and unconsciously slid and rolled towards its source….His sister jumped back to their small clearing to Soren’s… well… blaring alarm, pants still halfway down, with a blade out, magic flaring, ready for anything… except for the sight that greeted her. Soren screaming curses in 6 languages while wildly rolling around in the damp high grass, head and shirt on fire.Oh how upset he was, and pissed XD And as he was muttering under his breath and fuming all day his sister poked him constantly with comments that his head appears to be smoking, does he need some more water, and the like.By next evening he was laughing with her, but tried all sorts of bribes to keep her forever silent about this incident. Naturally, he couldn’t succeed.

He soon got so used to his short hair that the newer grew it out again, not having to keep it in mind during fights and climbs and stuff not to mention its weight and maintenance proved to be a nice bonus. Plus he found his new looks easy on the eye. Some cut forms changed sometimes but length not really.

Part of why he doesn’t tell the truth is that he does not want ppl to figure his big weakness of sleep rendering him dead to the world, and not just completely vulnerable, but also endangering himself with his crawling around. Some rogue he is XD But proven friends always get the story from his sister eventually.

8. What’s the weirdest thing they’ve ever eaten?

He ate all kinds of dishes that appear around Thedas as he grew up almost constantly on the road, so there were many that other parts consider weird. He finds this a curious thing. One normal dish to a coast of Antiva is a completely disgusting monstrosity to a mountain town in Nevarra, and so on.

But from an outside point of view the answer may be something like raw worms and the kind he a few times had to resort to for survival.

Or something completely different, considered weird, that he regularly does: eating predatory animals and even some monsters…. Often raw. Its actually his favorite. (can be blamed on all the blood magic work on his body, at least the craving of fresh blood, and the fact that he gains the most energy from meat, and he needs a lot of energy to run his boosted systems. He is kind of accidentally shaped towards a predatory animal by being enhanced. Nobody knows for sure how much this is the woken primal drives and how much just plain weirdness though XD)

18. What kind of music do they enjoy?

Soren LOVES music. He enjoys all kinds of skilled performances, likes to sing too (average singer but got that pleasant purr going for him), but his favorite thing about music is the merry atmosphere it can create and the dancing.So, the upbeat good vibe bits. He loves how people light up from some good music and dancing and he loves to dance, be it a fast paced loud group activity or a sensual slow glide. heck his fighting style is sort of a dance too Music should keep the spirits up, he thinks, and he is pleased to see that it often does. Its like a form of magic in his eyes, and we know how he loves magic… and people… and warming hearts.

32. Pet peeves?

Huh, another hard question. A LOT of things tick him off, and he is hot-blooded with a short fuse when it comes to things he has a displeasure for. (a similar trait of the twins but sister dislikes moooore stuff XD) Mostly things of the rich and ignorant and the festering scum. …But also like, sitting at a tavern’s counter and witnessing a pig say some disgusting slur or abusive shit etc to the servant has his fist instantly replying to it in their stead. No prelude. So I guess those things can also be considered here, tho I honestly newer quite grasped the full meaning of this English expression.

34. Least favorite food?

Green stuff. Let the animals eat weeds, he’ll eat the animals.Oh and if something doesn’t have meet in it, it is not real food. If it has at least a decent amount of sugar, then it’s at least a snack.

35. Least favorite color?

That is something he doesn’t really think much of, but would probably answer with “some muddy nonsense”. Basically anything that looks dirty, faded, washed out or muddy. It reminds him of the dirty alleys, rundown shacks, the old, stained and thrown out rags he more often than not had to wear growing up and he HATED it, like he hates poor quality and crude stuff, and poverty in general.

36. Least favorite smell?

Well, bad odors obviously, but that seems like a too obvious answer so.. least favorite…hmm

Too strong stenches, even if it was meant to be pleasant. Like flowers that ooze like no tomorrow, or someone wearing a bucket of perfume. His heightened senses can’t handle it, makes him kinda nauseous, besides it masks a lot of things he could read from a person’s scent at any given moment. He doesn’t like not knowing things he is used to be able to.

It may be an interesting thing to mention that he also absolutely loathes the scent of food going bad. He picks up on it much sooner than normal senses would, long before it’s considered not good to consume anymore. This puts an extra strain on his feeding problem, with him needing to consume at least the double of what an average man of his build needs for a day, always needing to get fresh stuff.
