Willow - Three days post-op

Double TPLO surger went well, the specialist said she was glad we decided to do both together as her right leg was only a few weeks away from going, although still had some miniscus left, which was a bonus. We had a hell of a time with the vets/overnight vets but I’ll leave that alone for now.

Nothing gory below the cut, just some bruising and a very sleepy dog.

Day 1 - Home Time

Looking like roadkill. Dopey, grumpy and ready to go home. We were waiting for the vet to pick up her pain meds at this point, Willow was giving some serious stink-eye to the lovely vet tech who had sat with her after surgery, just in case she suddenly had the urge to whisk her back into the building for more poking and prodding.

You gotta be sure of these things.

She ate, she drank, she slept, she utterly refused to be helped by the sling..Overall she was a very good patient, if a bit stressed and unsure.

Day 2 - Will you stop standing up

Willows’ acceptance of me icing her legs vanished with the dawn, so she was more puffy and bruised, and pretty aware of when the pain meds wore off. Plus it was stupidly hot and the flies were being a bother, so there was some stress panting and uncomfortable shifting during the afternoon.

By this point she’d figured out that she could pivot on her hips, then shift her weight forward and kind of just..walk on her hands until her legs were clear of the bed..or a step..which she proved TOO MANY TIMES.

But! She drank, she ate, she pooped and she was very happy to see Echo for a while.

They spent a good few minutes just mushing their faces together and licking each others teeth...pathetic really.

Day 3 - That is today, my dudes

She is brighter, a little cheeky, seeking fuss and enjoying being upsidedown again.

The swelling and bruising has gone down since yesterday and she seems a lot more relaxed with life. Her main problems at the moment are getting her feet when when she drinks ( I have to hold to the bowl out to her, but the water flicks on her toes which she HATES) and dropping too much rice in her bed. She’s an enthusiastic, if a little bit of a messy eater.

We were a little concerned about managing her stress levels, as she worries so much about so many things, but I don’t think we needed to..

Breakfast, drugs, a big drink and big poop make for a pretty content pup.
