Potential scientific awards include the 'Best Science Award' and the 'This Science Was Good' award, given by 'The Society for Good Scientists'.
According to 'City Ordinance 12.546B' the crime of not knowing how to play the guitar is punishable by a max fine of $12,000 and 3 years in prison.
Olive Garden in NV hangs patrons in oblong green sacks from 'branches' like leaves and waiters bring them giant olives to eat (half the size of the diners body).
Falafel smells like chocolate and a 'falafel sandwich' is pita-less falafel balls, vegetables, maple syrup and tahini.
During the Civil War people were trying to shoot lasers into alternate universes (according to Carlos).
There are dating apps called Lurk and Void in NV. Lurk involves having to find where your date is hiding.
Nilanjana's drink at Tourniquet was a Mulch Mojito and Darryl's was a Sangria Manhatten. Both weren't very good and one contained pine-sol. Darryl's manhatten comes with ice engraved with his social security number.
Charlie Bair gets his haunting license (lets you come back as a ghost) and two days later is swallowed into a pit whilst working at the Ralph's.
Claire from city hall has skin like rice paper with pulsing blue veins underneath like a cave fish.
Orangemilk is good for hangovers.
Buddy the golden retriever is a constellation.
Larry confirms that you don't have to eat or drink in the DOW, day and night happen suddenly and the light of the sun and moon is there but there is no visible sun or moon. The landscape is exactly like NV except for the lack of buildings.
There's a reality show called Orbs! and it's spineoff SphereZone. There's also So you think you can slowly freeze to death?

Luisa and Mark are two of the many scientists who also work with Carlos. They both have stations either side of Nilanjana.
Luisa is doing an experiment which involves being visibly disappointed in potatoes to see if they respond to it in any way. She sees science as a gateway to fame and awards and insists that everyone should be doing science for this reason. She thinks Nils isn't living up to her full potential and that her pesiticide experiment sounds more like performance art. She uses harvested parts of Carlos' failed machine to make a potato garden she's sure she'll win awards for. She isn't interested in dating or 'friend dates', truly being interested only in her potatoes.
Mark is trying to make a machine that lets out a blinding flash followed by a startling bang but was getting the order wrong for weeks before he was helped by Jamillah, a Joyous Congregation member. He has a crush on Luisa. At the end of the story he's also added 'a puff of smoke' to the list of things his machine can do, utilising parts harvested from Carlos' failed machine.
Connie is a scientist who is briefly mentioned going with Nilanjana to the shop 'Watch Yourself' to tell the worker there (coincidentally, Darryl) that time doesn't work in NV. She disappeared investigating the plastic flamingos from the first novel. She was, at that point, Nilanjana's only friend basically until the very end of the books plot where Nils has bonded more with others.
The labs emergency station contains a roll of paper towels and nothing else.
The lab is in the science district, a rough industrial area. It's made dangerous by frequent feuds between rival groups of scientists.
All scientists wardrobes consist of mostly lab coats.
Scientists will often dare each other to knock on the door of the house which doesn't exist and then run away.

WTNV quick rundown - It Devours! - Joyous Congregation&members
Click here for the plot points! Click here for facts about Nilanjana! Click here for facts about Darryl! Click here for facts about Night Vale and it's citizens (including Cecil and Carlos) in It Devours! Click here for stuff about the other scientists! Click here for misc interesting facts I found!
Stephanie is a young woman who befriended Darryl when they were both children. She is studying for a degree in theology and wants to become a Church Elder (which she does in the end). She is good at volleyball and enjoys the academic side of her religion. She and Darryl end up dating.
Jamillah is a young woman who never lets go of her power drill and understands a lot about machines despite not being too interested in science. She does the illustrations for the churchs pamphlets.
Martin McCaffry is a church member who used to work for the TSA out at the NV airport. He was unhappy with his job and continuously made drawings of an elongated dark figure with no memory of making them. He tried setting traps, making sacrifices and even using a future predicting machine to try and catch it. Eventually, he met a church member called May who turned him onto the religion and a new (worse paying) job overseeing the summer camp counsellers. This doesn't help him either. He eventually becomes consumed with drawing the figure and spends all his time making them, but has never been happier.
The church urges all of it's members to present a happy face to the world with the intention of spreading joy but outside presentation is valued higher than actual feelings.
A religious gesture in the JC is to make a 'circling motion with an upright fist'. If returned, the participants than make eye contact and hum a single low note for ten seconds.
They believe the Smiling God has always been here even before the Big Bang. It lives beneath the earth but used to live with people except people 'weren't ready' and so it had to go away. The DOW is heaven.
The Smiling God uses exclusively it/it's pronouns and has a wide smile with a vast field of teeth.
Blood-letting is part of worshipping a Smiling God.
It is believed to devour your sins, unwanted desires, regrets and worst memories, things you wish you did and didn't and vice versa.
The Central Church of the JC in NV used to practice out of storefronts in half-empty strip malls but earlier 'this year' a proper church was constructed a few miles off of route 800. It's tall silver steeple is visible from the highway and it looks like a mix of a church and an office building. It has huge old looking doors with ringed knockers in the shape of centipedes. The real door to enter is a more office-building looking one around the side.
The JC believe in the '11 stages of human education' which are: birth, earthly nourishment, divine nourishment, friendship, love, awareness, family, enlightment, community and the Devouring. Depictions of these in the church often include foxes, for reasons not fully understood but a possible theory is just that Kevin (their prophet, who apparently brought them the Book of Devouring from 'heaven'/the DOW and would preach on his show) just really liked foxes.
There are classrooms in the church, full of toys like dolls and candles and cars with human faces painted on them. There's also books like 'Felicia finds an obelisk' and 'Smiley the centipede accidentally swallows the Earth'. There is a board with the question 'What is Divine Pain?' on it. The teacher is called Ms French (or was when Darryl was young).
The congregation religious outfits consist of long shapeless yellow robes and big square hats with mesh that covers the face.
Once a year the church holds a 'Youth Culling' where children can choose to become full members.
Before services, church members fast so their hunger will remind them of the Smiling God's hunger.
The Congregation has missionaries in Venezuela, Mexico and Double Mexico. Darryl teaches them Double Spanish.
Gordon hates and fears books.
The Book of Devouring is bound in centipede skin and has a pattern made of nails with wire strung between them on the cover, which makes the interlocking triangles of the centipedes hunting pattern. It is written on the yellow pages of a legal pad and contains diary-like entries of observations and many drawings of the triangular movement patterns. The invocation to summon a Smiling God involves wearing fox masks, jumping up and down and having a tray of milk and teeth.

The structure of NV works like this - there is a ring of mountains around the desert with NV in the middle and (formerly DB) Red Mesa and Pine Cliffs elsewhere. Downtown NV is the towns center which contains city hall, the radio station, several hooded figures at all times, the library, a shimmering vortex blocked off by yellow police tape, dangerous stray dogs and propaganda loudspeakers on every corner.
Beyond downtown is Old Town NV, a residential and shopping district developed in the 1930's which fell into disrepair post-war but is seeing a regenesis of homeowners, shops, tall metal trees and predatory cats. Beyond OTNV are the sand wastes then the scrublands, then the used car lot, then Old Woman Josie's house and finally, Larry Leroy's house.
Larry is fairly old (though has become quicker with age) and has lived alone for as long as he can remember. He owns a phone (broken) and a wheeless car with an underground shed full of canned goods/bottled water and a years worth of preserved pork sausages hidden underneath. He got the car by trading his shotgun for it. Larry has never felt safe around guns after he got stung by a scorpion reaching for his dads hunting rifle on a father-son hunting trip. He is not scared of scorpions though and likes that they eat pests like squirrels.
Larry wants to be remembered not through the fleeting memories of offspring but the immortality he believes art brings. His fave thing to make is dioramas of historical events and famous scenes from books. All of these are ahistorical/alternate versions such as W.E.B. DuBois riding on the back of a five-headed dragon called Rachel McDaniels or Dorothy bombing Kansas from a war balloon. His parents used to tell him that history didn't exist because it wasn't happening any more. His heroes are; W.E.B. DuBois, Helen Keller, Redd Foxx, Luis Valdez and Toni Morrison. He also writes poetry and makes patchwork quilts.
Included in his will are letters and items to be distributed to Sarah Sultan (the dioramas), Leann Hart and Cecil (obituary he's written for himself) and Michelle Nyugen (polka music written and preformed by himself using a concertina and a microcassette recorder).
The vague yet menacing government agency creates and mails everyone an earthquake calender each month to tell them when the scheduled earthquakes are.
Carlos rarely invites people back into his private lab. He spends time in there doing science but also making construction paper collage love notes for Cecil and writing down his fave numbers.
Carlos takes days off work to be with Janice (as do Steve, Abby and Cecil) when Janice gets her frequent checkups on her eyes, kidneys and spine. When Cecil is in danger, Carlos goes into an unproductive worry stupor, pacing his office trying not to call into the station to ask if Cecil is okay. On date nights, Carlos puts gel in his hair and wears his most striking lab coat.
Carlos dislikes talking about his time in the DOW, despite which he's become obsessed with it. He eventually reveals that this is because he spent ten years there instead of the year he was gone in NV, not eating or drinking or really feeling like he was existing, just endlessly ringing the moutain unable to get anywhere and away from the people he loved.
Neat is one of Carlos' fave words. He doesn't get when a question is rhetorical, or a joke, and dislikes being touched including comforted physically. However, he does sometimes like it when Cecil strokes his ears but other times not. He has a hard time predicting his own responses to things and can't articulate his feelings via words or process them very well inside of himself. He also loses speech when overwhelmed.
Carlos says that the thing he found weirdest about NV was how nobody else thought it was weird, that Cecil helped him feel better and even fond of that aspect and that sometimes when Cecil wakes up he [Cecil] will mutter "how did I end up this lucky?"
Carlos likes mint ice cream. He's a heavy sleeper.
Most birds in NV are computers produced and owned by the government.
Helicopters in NV 'don't take fuel'.
Big Rico's real name is Richie Goldblum. His brother is the mailman, Arnie Goldblum (who is two years older). They had a hard time growing up Jewish in NV as it's 'not exactly brimming with Jews' and Arnie believes that his brother changed his name to better fit in and distance himself from his culture. They also used to tease him for being small despite not being small, so the 'big' part is a play on that. Big Rico also pretty much admits to murdering competitors and feeding them to the worms he keeps in his basement.
Basimah Bishara, scared of the sudden pits and weary of the dangers of NV, decides to go to college in California. Mab, the bus driver, was almost swallowed and witnessed the sinking of Big Rico's and the full light that came from it which stung her skin. Terry Williams, age 7, was traumitised by seeing Big Rico's sink but wouldn't feel any full effects until he moved out of NV and at age 33 had a break down in a restaurant parking lot.
Jackie Fierro has decided to skip to 25. She is dating Sheriff Sam.
The Tourniquet bartender, Arjun, has been given near infinite knowledge of the universe which is shattering his mind. He also spies for the city council. He wears 'cool vintage prohibition era clothes' aka a snuggie and a mesh trucker hat. He can carve ice with his teeth.
Sex in NV is highly regulated. You have to fill out forms in triplicate providing a medical history then enter your individual Sex PIN to verify identity and interest. Then the forms have to be notorised and various blood tests and results gotten before sex.
There is a 'reincarnation programme' at the NV zoo where they will teach an animal of your choice to act like you (for a huge fee). Results are middling but the richest of citizens often sign up.
Janice doesn't like science, she likes sports but Carlos assures her that sports are science.
Cecil and Carlos think that tarantulas are adorable.
Pamela drives a purple PT cruiser.
Cecil has at least some chest hair, which Carlos likes to bury his face in when he's upset.
Josh Crayton is dating a boy called Grant.
Hank, a sentient patch of haze, works at the Staples.

Darryl Ramirez is a young man from the former Desert Bluffs who is a devoted follower of a Smiling God and a member of the Joyous Congregation. He used to attend the church just as a place to be when his parents were away on business, but was later taken in by them when his parents died and raised by the church. After the events of the book he briefly questions his faith before renewing it with greater fervor.
He firmly states that he believes that the centipede was not really a Smiling God (likely correct, since Larry Leroy confirms that the creature was reacting to the portals but not creating them and generally just behaved like a normal but giant animal) and that Pastor Munn and Kevin were misguided.
He always sounds sarcastic due to his JC education
He used to work at a shop called Watch Yourself, where he first met Nils (and another scientist called Connie) after she tried to tell him that time didn't work in NV and he refused to believe her (he later reveals that he didn't want to believe that time wasn't linear as it made it seem like things like his parents deaths could somehow be undone).
Darryl became the Wordsmith due to being able to better explain himself via writing and thus earning the nickname is school and sticking with it when asked to make pamphlets for the Joyous Congregation.
Darryl eats meat occasionally though not much recently as it's 'hard to tell what they're putting in meat nowadays' by which he means things like 50cents off coupons for American Airlines and AOL CD's.
Darryl is a heavy sleeper.

Larry Leroy feels a sudden heat under his feet, followed by a rumbling, followed by a pit opening under his house taking it and him with it.
Following this, Carlos invites Nilanjana into his private lab to tell her that he's been trying to take readings on the House that Doesn't Exist because of it's links to the desert otherworld, which he wants to study and protect others from. However, when he turns on his machine, a great rumbling starts which messes up his readings. He asked City Council about it and although they denied creating the rumbling they mentioned that a 'Wordsmith' had warned them about something coming from the DOW and told him to stop. He asks Nils to try and find the source of the rumbling.
Nils tried to go to where Carlos detected the rumbling but it was crawling with agents so she goes to the coffee shop 'the Spikey Hammer'. Darryl is there and hands her a religious pamphlet. Later, whilst she's inspecting the pit where Larry's house used to be she drops it. With a helicopter and it's agent hovering over her shoulder, she reads it and sees it's written by the Wordsmith possibly linking the church to everything. She decides to investigate the church.
Before she can invesitigate, Darryl sees her and offers to give her a tour. They are met during the tour by Gordon, the Pastors assistent, who quizzes her on her interest. Nilanjana gives a brief answer about looking for 'something more', meets Stephanie and Jamilliah (other church members) and leaves.
Nils checks up on Carlos. His new attempt at using his machine is interrupted by Pamela Winchell bursting in and warning him to not continue doing what he's doing. The machine is working whilst she speaks and a pit opens next door, swallowing Big Rico's. Pamela denies involvement. The pit is much the same as the other, except it is full of earthworms.
During the next stage of her investigation (in which she decides the pattern of the pits indicates it's a creature making them) she is once more watched by the helicopter and is then met by Darryl, who asks her on a date which she accepts. Their date goes well, ending with them going to her place and having sex.
The next day, at the Moonlite, Nilanjana is honest about her reasons for going to the church and Darryl reveals that he is the Wordsmith. He says that he only talked to city council to convert them, not to warn them of anything and certainly not to turn them against Carlos.
She meets back up with Carlos. Nils realises that the pattern of holes Carlos has observed look a lot like a animal burrowing underground and links it with how a Smiling God is described and portrayed.
Nilanjana decides to sneak into the Hall of Public Records to get more information. She pretends to need the bathroom, but sneaks off. She is found by Pamela, arrested and taken to the abandoned mineshaft overnight.
Carlos meets up with her when she's let out and tries to get her to stop with her investigation. Nilanjana insists that she must continue and Carlos promises to support her even if he doesn't approve of what she's doing because it's putting her in danger.
Darryl confides in Stephanie and Jamillah the real reason for Nils interest and they work together to try and get to the bottom of things.
Nils wants to infiltrate the church and asks Darryl to help her. He agrees to prove their innocence and spends the night. They dress Nils up in Darryl's full body covering religious gear and sneak her into a service. Meanwhile, Darryl sneaks into the offices to investigate.
When Testimonials are called, Gordon tries to get 'Darryl' to speak. To get out of doing so and thus revealing herself Nils throws up and then rushes out. She pretends to lock herself in a bathroom but heads to the offices to find the real Darryl instead, giving him his stuff back. He says he found some documents talking about an 'invocation' and 'the book of devouring' which he's never heard of. Nils tries to leave but is caught and brought back inside.
Pastor Munn reveals that they (at least she and Gordon) believe that the Smiling God is an actual real live giant centipede which is going to devour them all. Darryl is shocked because he believed it was all metaphorical. The church is indeed trying to summon the beast on purpose.
Nils tries to explain what she's learnt to Carlos at the grand reopening of Big Rico's. She tries to tell him what is happening but keeps getting interupted. Suddenly Hooded Figures surround the pit and John Peters. Nils rushes one of the figures to save John Peters. She eventually gets to explain everything to Carlos. Through further investigation they figure out that the Hooded Figures are always gather around entrances to the DOW which means the pit is also an entrance to the DOW.
Darryl is questioned on his faith by the Pastor and backed up by his friends. They are then shown the Book of Devouring.
Another pit has opened in the school gym during the basketball practice. Nils hurries over, knowing that Janice will have been there and wanting to support Carlos.
Janice is unhurt but her wheelchair is broken. She helped to get people out of the way, but many did get swallowed by the pit. Cecil, Carlos, Abby and Steve are there. Carlos is visibly very upset and says he won't be letting anyone stop him from now on. Abby is holding it in as she usually cries only when she's alone such as in the shower. Pamela arrives to give an emergency press conference. When confronted, she admits that they are trying to stop Carlos but they are not making the holes and also want to stop the Smiling God.
Nilanjana leaves and is followed by the church van, she turns the tables and corners the van. Inside are Darryl, Stephanie and Jamillah who show her that they've stolen the book of devouring. They go back to the lab where Darryl explains that they believe that their leaders have hijacked the religion and changed it into something it's not. The scientists and church members end up arguing, except Nils and Stephanie who read the book and figure out that the interlocking triangles allow them to track where the centipede will emerge/where the portal to the DOW is, one of which is ofc where Larry Leroy's house used to be.
Nils asks Carlos to help but he's too wrapped up in his own experiment. They decide that their only option is to summon the creature themselves. Nils secretly plans to use a pesticide capsule to kill the centipede.
They preform the ritual in the book and summon the centipede. They distract the centipede whilst Nils finishes her pesticide capsule. Darryl helps her get the beast to swallow it but it doesn't kill it. The centipede notices NV and heads towards town.
They know it will come through the House that doesn't exist so head there. They are met by Pastor Munn and Gordon. The centipede emerges from the house, devours the pastor and Gordon and goes on a rampage.
Nils notices that it only 'devours' places rich in insects meaning it's probably just an animal after all and is just hungry. They lead it to the pit in Big Rico's place which is full of earthworms and trap it under there with a tarp laid down by the helicopter pilot Nils befriended. Carlos them appears and sets the creature on fire, killing it.
This however does not stop the rumbling when Carlos turns on his machine. Larry Leroy appears and tells them that he wasn't devoured by anything. That there was a mechanical sound and he ended up in the DOW, eventually working his way back. Nils realises that it's Carlos' machine which has been causing the portals all this time and that if he doesn't stop the veil between the worlds will rip wide open. He gets defensive and refuses to stop at first, eventually seeing sense and stopping his machine.
Nils is promoted to Carlos' main assistent, which allows her to do as she pleases with her science and also to watch him and make sure he's not accidentally dangerous again.

Nilanjana Sikdar is a scientist who works with Carlos. She is from Indiana originally, and like most scientists simply felt the urge to come to NV because it was the most scientifically interesting place on Earth (something she suddenly knew). She simply drove randomly and ended up in NV. She has been in NV for 4 years.
She enjoys working with different bacteria to create products with medical or pesticide related applications. She is very neat and becomes irritated when things are not exactly aligned or symmetrical.
She is not interested in winning awards or being famous for her science. The pesiticide she was developing was intended to be used to kill wood-boring beetles without making them scream.
Her passion for science comes from wanting to 'fill in the empty circle of human knowledge' so that people don't have to believe in myths. She likes order and tidy knowledge. She's enjoyed killing bugs and looking at them through microscopes since she was a child and didn't have many friends. She wasn't bullied but also wasn't invited to parties.
At the start of the story, Nils isn't sure if she's happy, insisting she's fine and doesn't need to be happy. She feels like an outsider to NV who will never understand it or fit in, but becomes fiercely defensive of the town and it's people towards the end, realising that she does belong in NV and 'being fine' is something she can slowly work on.
Nils is interested in men and has had boyfriends before Darryl but they also didn't work out. She shows a little interest in Kareem.
Nils doesn't eat meat. She celebrates Diwali.
Sometimes when she tries to return home, Nilanjana ends up at different times in her parents lives. She once returned to find her mother was only six and her father wasn't around due to not immigrating to the US yet. Her mother is the one who got her interested in science in the first place.
Nilanjana's coffee of choice is a huge 20 ounce filter coffee with exactly 2 tablespoons of milk and 3 packets of sugar (sometimes she'll put half a teaspoon of whatever spices the shop has out such as cinnamon, nutmeg, paprika or metal shavings). She brings her own measuring spoons for this. She cares less about taste more about getting some hot caffeine down her.
Nils equipment that she always carries includes a decibel meter, a number of glass jars and a thick metal box with a series of blinking lights across the front and unmarked coloured buttons on the top. Computer permits are not easily given, so the box is a work around to that problem.
Nils is overweight. She is a light sleeper.
Nils fave ice-cream is chocolate with just a little dried pasta mixed in to give it texture.
All NV citizens are acquired to own a TV and cable, Nils doesn't watch TV but doesn't mind paying to support the less fortunate like TV execs.
Nils likes Larry Leroy but does not like John Peters.

WTNV quick rundown - 88 - Things Fall Apart
Featuring the voice of Maureen Johnson as (Ex)-Intern Maureen, Kate Jones as Michelle Nyugen, Emma Frankland as Emma Frankland as Sheriff Sam, Erica Livingston as Maggie Penebaker, Christoper Loar as Donald Penebaker and Dylan Marron as Carlos the Scientist.
[sound of phone ringing in earpiece] Citywide utility failures continue to haunt us, but not as much as the strangers who do not appear to move. Welcome to the Night Vale Public Utilities phone line.
Night Vale is experiencing city wide power outages, polluted water supplies and several gas leaks (hinted to be due to the Strangers in some way). Cecil is desperately trying to get through to NV Utilities Department but it's proving difficult due to the snippy attitude in Maggie Penebakers recorded lines (this is the first time she says her name, I believe, previously just being heard as the female voice on the phone line).
Carlos calls Cecil to see if he's alright and to ask him to come home, since he doesn't have power to run his show right now. Cecil says he has to do his job and find a way to report what is going on. Carlos wishes him good luck and to stay safe.
Apparently Maggie and Carlos are friends (or at least, she used to assist him in the lab) and she has a backup generator they can use.
Cecil calls Sheriff Sam to see if they know anything about the Strangers and to ask whether the Strangers are also targetting the previous citziens of Desert Bluffs. When Sam is derogatory towards the ex-DB citizens, Cecil stands up for them. Sam reports that some of the DB citizens have 'gone somewheere that feels more like home'. They also say that two sinkholes have opened up on route 800 and the dam along the NV lake (a dusty hole) broke.
Cecil calls Michelle to help him locate Maureen. Michelle reveals that Maureen is the leader of the army of strangers, and that Chad and his 'evil dog' are Maureen's boss. She also gives him Maureen's number. Michelle says that Maureen let her get up close to a Stranger. The Strangers can devour your soul, which starts a long and permenant process of transforming into a Stranger yourself. They only stand and breathe because they are in eternal torment and that's all they can do.
Maureen's phone goes straight to voicemail. Cecil leaves a message saying that he's proud of her and what's she's doing (and that he's finally worked out that it's former intern Chad Boenger behind this) but that he's worried he won't see Carlos again and didn't even say 'I love you' before hanging up when they last talked. He asks Maureen if he'll be able to see Carlos again, implying but not saying that he hopes she won't lead the Strangers to kill everyone.
Cecil gets a call from a Stranger, who of course only breathes slowly down the phone. A dog barks. The episode ends.
Weather: "Palestine" by Sam Baker, featuring Carrie Elkin.
Carlos called Cecil 'poot' and Cecil called Carlos 'bunny'.
There is a John Peter in NV who is a pharmacist. Cecil gets his prescription (whatever that is) from him.
Cards In Favour Of Humanity is a game in NV.
Michelle claims her previous monologue was 'private' but she also sent the tape in to Cecil with a label asking it to be played. She expresses her secret insecurities against this episode by questioning whether Cecil would think badly for her for actually liking something.
Proverb: Wanna feel old? People born in 2014 have already graduated college, don't know what a trombone is, are are all named after gourds.

WTNV quick rundown - 75 - Through The Narrow Place
It’s not the destination. It’s the endless, exhausting journey. Welcome to Night Vale.
This episode is about the Annual Marathon Through The Narrow Place. It's a 'family friendly charity race', a 26 mile or so course along the Crooked Path, down into the Deepening, and, ultimately, Through the Narrow Place. All the town is forced to take part by the terrifying Harbingers of the Distant Prince (who have beaks and stomach eyes), and all participants will be devoured by the Narrow Place. Cecil is really nonchalant about it being the end of everyone and seems to think it's fun.
Cecil and Carlos are also taking part, in matching lycra shorts. Carlos is wearing a 'running labcoat' and Cecil is allowed to bring his mobile broadcasting equipment.
They are all forced to run. They go through and on to the other side except there is no other side. They send messages in morse code to the people they once had been, asking for help, but they could not help due to being outside of the Narrow Place. The Distant Prince was pleased. He gathered his Harbingers to him for the celebration. They cooed and merged in and out with each other, taking startling forms.  NV citizens wore black coats and had never existed. The Distant Prince wore a golden coat and had always existed. "All darkness is just a thickness of birds. There is rustling in every shadow. Every surface is alive. We wore black coats and we went through it. We went Through the Narrow Place."
The race board president is Susan Willman, whose mouth is described as black and featureless inside.

The hostile take over of Strex, laying off of all people in DB and using of all Strex funds to create opera in NV results in yet more cuts in DB including removing sanitation services. The people in DB are suffering more and more and no appeals for help are working.
Cecil assumes that everyone wants to hear more about Khoshekh. Khoshekh has 'entered the time of his life where his skull is completely visible'. The kittens are also doing well. Cecil's fave kitten is Mixtape, whose anterior spines are coming in. Cecil has to dress up in protective gear and take anti-toxins just to interact with the cats.
Cecil does an 'agony aunt' still advice section called 'hey there Cecil'. He answers three questions from anon people, although one is very clearly Diane Crayton.
Stay tuned next for a different you, and a different you, and a different you again, each you denying their multiple nature. And from the Narrow Place, where we wear black coats, and have never existed, Good night, Night Vale. Good night.
Proverb: Drake would like to add you to his professional network on Linkedin.

WTNV quick rundown - 94 - All Right
Pick up the rest of what I've done, including live shows and books, here! (or use the tags).
It’s all right. All right. Allll right. Aaaaaaalllll right. Welcome to Night Vale. (important to note that the sound moves towards the right channel during this opening)
The gimmick of the episode is that Cecil is reporting only from one side because there is a dangerous creature on the loose since it was 'accidentally' released into NV by the Federal Government and he needs everyone to be able to hear him and their environment. It is assumed everyone is wearing headphones because it is now law to do so.
Cecil gives a series of instructions to his 'listeners' during this time, intending to aid in their safety though at times accidentally bringing them closer to danger.
The creature ends up devouring a man called Wayne Ferry and then seemingly leaving, so that everyone else is safe.
Weather: "Plough" by Speedy Ortiz
City Council finally got a cell phone, a single one, so they all fight over it and often mistype or send a long string of dance emojis.
Cecil seems to suggest having a conversation with nothing just in case there's actually something there it's just really quiet.
Citizens in old town NV are hearing a low whump whump whump from underground.
Cecil gets distracted talking about humming, during which a horrible accident happens on route 99.
And as you exist in this world, half-hearing my half-voice, remember: you’re all right. [fade back to center] You are allllll right.  All right Night Vale. Good night.

I am Kevin/I identify as Kevin of Desert Bluffs. You may know the more common word 'otherkin' or 'fictionkin'.
Despite this I use third person to reference myself for the comfort of those who don't believe in alterhumanism/fictionkin etc and to discuss differences between myself and this worlds fictional Kevin.
Weary of other me's, but I'll give it a try if you want to talk. I'm less comfortable relating to fictives but again may try.
Needless to say, if you're antikin and mean about it you will just be blocked. Honest questions are appreciated though!

WTNV Quick Rundown - 7 - History Week
Hello again! To catch up with previous (or future, I guess? depending on when you're reading this) rundowns, click here or go to my blog and look under the tag #wtnv quick rundown
This is a series where I take a look at each episode of the podcast and each live show (where able) and write you, dear reader, old fan or new, a nice bulletpoint list of lore, facts, quotes and interesting things so you don't have to go through the whole thing yourself if you don't want to or can't. Let's begin!
It is almost complete. It is almost complete. At last. Welcome to Night Vale.
It's History Week in Night Vale. Time to, as City Council says, “Poke about in the black recesses of the past until it devours our fragile present.” Cecil's contribution is to basically infodump some Night Vale lore such as-!
Night Vale has evidence of settlers as early as 4000BC, as well as dark figures that would watch them from the distance. The cave paintings in Night Vale however have been mostly power-washed away by someone who 'on religious grounds' did not believe in the past.
The first white men arrived in 1745. There were four parties of explorers who looked at the terrible waterless desert and moved on, but the final party shrugged and decided to stay. (Cecil once more insults Desert Bluffs for just kinda existing, he lived on spite back in this time lol).
In 1824 there was the first meeting of the Town Elder Council, the predecessor of the City Council. They were crimson robes and soft meat crowns (as previously mentioned). In this meeting they invented several things which Night Vale still uses such as the City Council membership, their 'lovely byzantine' tax system and brutal penalties for mistakes and the official town song, chant and moan. Cecil is to report for re-education the next day for saying this. 'Oh dear' he remarks.
In 1943, everyone in Night Vale chanted for the USA's victory in the war and maintained the belief that their chanting was a deciding factor in the victory. City Council erected a seven story monument in Grove Park saying so, until a federal lawsuit made them take it down (the outside world is aware of NV??).
In 2052, The Scion of the Dark Order will descend, realize he mistimed the prophecy, and re-ascend. The seventh siege of the Great Night Vale Temple will rage on. The plague of buzzing boils will kill thousands, and annoy thousands more with its buzzing. The City Council will reveal its true form and eat half of Night Vale’s population. Approval ratings for the mayor will hover in the low 40s, which will be surprising, as there will have been no mayor for over thirty years.
Cecil also tells us what he did 'yesterday'. Basically just ordinary stuff, except for Old Woman Josie digging up a box from her garden and then burying it somewhere else.
The Night Vale Tourism Board(NVTB) director is called Madeline LeFleur. She is asking that whoever is telepathically attacking tourists to please stop. If you have information on who or what is doing it (thus reducing tourists and the money they bring) you will receive a free puppy. The downtown municipal offices are overrun with puppies.
'The Apache Tracker' has vanished, which Cecil is glad for because he 'made the whole town look ignorant and racist'. His home is also gone, replaced by bucolic meadow that neighbourhood children refuse to enter.
Crews from the Department of Public Safety will be repainting highway lane markers. Designed by contemporary artists Kara Walker: White dashes and double-yellow lane dividers will be replaced with colourful ceramic mosaics depicting disgruntled South American workers rising en masse against an abusive capitalist hegemony. Protective steel barriers will be replaced by provocative butcher-paper silhouettes of slavery-era self-mutilation, reflective of centuries of slow genocide and dehumanization by western imperialists.
Exits 15 to 17 along Route 800 will be closed for the next two Saturdays because of the biennial Lee Marvin Film Retrospective. Lee Marvin is, for some reason, pretty significant to NV lore.
Many citizens are dissatisfied with the NV library because: the public computers for internet use are outdated and slow, the lending period of 14 days is not nearly long enough to read lengthier books, the fatality rate is well above the national average for public libraries, the library bloodstone circle does not appear to have seen any maintenance or cleaning in some time, there are reports of a faceless spectre moving about the biographies section, picking off lone browsers one by one and that biographies section is far too small and contains 33 copies of the official biography of Helen Hunt, and no other books.
There is then a significantly long section parodying ideas about gun control as the NV High School is implementing metal detectors. The shadow government apparently gives all kids uzi's and rifles and the metal detectors are bad apparently it infringes on 'this clandestine operation's rights as a vast underground conspiracy of giant mega-corporations and corrupt world leaders to bear arms via teenage paramilitary proxies.'
The school board argues that those without firearms won't use them and will instead actually get an education.
Cecil is outraged at the idea of taking away the firearms. But he also says that “Praise the beams; Praise o ye knowing beams that guide our lives, our hearts, our souls. Praise o highest to ye all-powerful beams!” is part of the pledge of allegiance so yeah pinch of salt due to the commentary aspect of NV.
And now for a word from our sponsors. That word is “carp.”

The Night Vale Business Association says that the Night Vale Harbor and Waterfront Recreation Area did not ever actually exist. It was a shared hallucination effecting everyone. They are proud to declare that they have never suffered any sort of disastrous business failure or lost massive amounts of money building waterfront facilities in a desert. They recommend consulting your dream interpretation manuals to determine exactly what this Night Vale Harbour vision could mean. They also said that if you happen to stumble on the waterfront buildings out in the desert exactly where you remembered them and they seem real, that’s because you are still hallucinating and should seek medical treatment or have a 'member' of the City Council howl at you if you are of the olden faith and do not believe in modern medicine.
But most importantly: all of us, all of us here in Night Vale, in America, in the world, in the secret orbital bases, all of us got through another day. We passed the time, from one end of twelve to the other, without stopping once. Well done, us. Good job, people who experience time. Time experiencers, good job. And, from this moment in history, the one that’s happening right now, good night. - why didn't he sign off right HISSSS
