Here’s a a fun tidbit! I’ve been working on a design for my future attempts at Vtubing! I’ve seriously been working on this for about two years now maybe?
I’ve always had trouble feeling like a username really stuck. I left my original popular one because I had one of those, that’s the old you you need a new you, phases where I was slightly embarrassed by what my old work seemed to center around. Mostly it was me making a lot of suggestive artwork and I wasn’t as into that anymore. Still not a great idea to leave the one account that actually had a teensy bit of clout, but too late now! Sorry anyway, the username Chimera Candy came to be as I always felt it difficult to come up with a singular aspect of myself to put forward as the artsona to represent me as a whole. I love just about all colors, I liked the idea of being represented by various animals, foods, etc. So Chimera was a perfect way to handle the mixed themes I saw for myself! Then the designing part! I wanted to try to reference a bunch of 90′s nostalgia toys :Worms on Strings, Tamagotchi, Polly Pocket. Beanie Baby Etc. As well as fashion that was sort of reminiscent of 90′s/00′s. There are definitely Lisa Frank vibes.
The jump from the first to second design was a result of me worrying the asymmetry and various patterns would be too much for rigging properly. Besides what’s more 90′s than overalls right? The next major jump was because I’m not a fan of shorts at all, so trying to lengthen the overalls felt necessary. Plus I had learned a lot more from watching other vtubers draw their vtuber models and wanted to try out different proportions. Not much changed between this model and the next. Hair went from purple to brown, since my hair is brown and I wanted it to be a little less fantastical and closer to myself. I removed a lot of the 90′s toys as I didn’t want to have to worry about anything that could be copyright on my vtuber.
From there it’s mostly hair style, eyes style, different outfit variations, what type of animal aspects I wanted to put where, and if I wanted to go more fantasy or more realistic to myself, etc. However, none of them every felt...right. It’s hard to explain. You can see I even basically finished the entire artwork for the 8th design. You can also see I started to return back to the first design because I really did like aspects of it! I think part of the problem was that I has drawn myself too skinny. Like yes she’s a thicker girl, but I had struggled in the past with really accepting my chub and felt it was time to lean more into that. I also felt the Chimera wasn’t coming through enough. She just kinda looked like a cat girl with horns and dragon wings?  That’s when I decided to try something a bit different. I knew it was a risk as not many people would want to draw a half person, half animal character to this degree but centaur felt right! That brings us to the most current iteration. The animals picked for my chimera were Tiger/Lion, Unicorn, and Snake/Dragon. I feel like this design shows that the most, especially Snake/Dragon which I feel was definitely missing from previous designs! I also wanted to add more candy reference so her shirt is supposed to subtly give a pinata sort of feel. This design has a lot going on! I know! But... I think I’m on the right track! Who knows there may be more, probably definitely more iterations in the future but...I’m enjoying myself!
