Mother and Child Materials: round rags’ filling*, old cloth, foam, cardboard, GI wire, thread 2020
The two forms are in that position because it’s just something I grew up seeing in art (the position of mother and child looking like two beans facing each other). I used the palaman of the round construction rags because they were brightly colored and I wanted to show that my life has been colorful because of the color that she showed me. Armature is wire with foam and the rags are hand sewn so it feels like a stuffed toy.

PLATE 2: PPE Materials: face shields, face masks, stapler, acetate, plant
When thinking about the current situation we are in, tragedy is definitely one of the words that come to mind. But one consequence of this pandemic that we will not notice right away will be its impact on the environment. Where will all the used masks and shields go when covid goes away? They will end up in the landfills and suffocate the earth.

Lockdown Materials: Paper, Board, Acetate 2020
During this pandemic it’s like we’re in our own bubbles. Not able to meet up or touch anyone. In this plate I wanted to explore the opacity of different materials, and how the shadow differed with distance. Interestingly enough, acetate has a more prominent shadow the farther away from the light source. Since I’m new to shadow art this is a pretty subpar work but it was very experimental and I now know how to manipulate materials in the future for any possible shadow puppet works.

Package from the Past (Add to Cart)
Materials: Photographs, Plastic
I decided to take this plate literally, with using photographs as my physical artifacts. I found these old photos of my grandparents and their parents dates ranging from the 1910s to the 1930s. I put some photographs inside an LBC plastic because I wanted it to look like it came from an online buy, like if you bought past memories online and they arrived to you in the present. Some photos are outside while some are still inside because it’s supposed to look like I’m in the midst of an unboxing (youtube unboxing that people do when they buy things online). The more memories you buy the more you add to cart! The photos I chose were from different parts of their lives (marriage, friends, family, school) to show how human lives can be documented in these little packages. How so many details of life can be unpacked or unboxed by these, and even if I did not personally meet them or even without context of who specifically they are, I am given an idea of what happens within them.

Contact Tracing
2021 Plywood, velcro, gloves
As seen in the video, the velcro is soft to touch and the plywood is smooth; however, when you put the gloves on the gloves stick to the velcro surface making it harder to move. I used this as an example to illustrate what we are experiencing right now with COVID-19. The experience is to be made with the gloves on. When you are wearing the gloves you will stick to the surface, just like how in real life we cannot just touch anything we see unlike before. This plate simulates how it would be to touch anything contaminated with the virus, how to get out of the ‘sticky situation’ we’d have to put effort (the pulling of the glove) and it would not be so easy.
