I’m not sure I agree that the prince of Egypt never casts doubt on the existence of other gods,
Whenever the pharo’s magicians perform their own attempted miracles like conjuring snakes it’s alway’s done in shadow or behind a curtain, thus making it entirely plausible they’re just doing magic tricks, slight of hand and whatnot.
This is not a religious discussion simply a movie analyst’s lol.
this is true, and it's a point I kind of dislike about the movie, but what I've meant to say is that the movie never outright says that the Egyptian g-ds aren't real. (and if I did say "the movie never casts doubt" then my bad oopsie uwu)
this is 100% a display of "the Egyptian g-ds are doing nothing and the magicians are using tricks", but at no point does a character say "your g-ds are false! they're not doing anything! your magicians are a scam!" the most obvious interpretation is that the Egyptian g-ds are false, sure, but there's still room for other interpretations, such as:
the Egyptian g-ds can't perform the same type of miracles, and thus the magicians have to rely on tricks.
the magicians don't actually believe in the g-ds they worship and are abusing the role they're in.
the magicians assume they have to perform the same miracles because they've never seen their g-ds perform these types of miracles, so they're lacking faith (not tfhe same as having no faith).
meta argument: if the movie showed the magicians perform real miracles, that would mean that the Egyptian g-ds were 100% real in the story, and thus they're taking a stance. having it up for interpretation is much safer for a faithful interpretation of the story.
these are all potential interpretations that don't outright deny the existence of the Egyptian g-ds in the movie, but explain it as the them either not being as powerful or their followers lacking the same amount of faith the Hebrews have in their g-d.
and there's another g-d mentioned in the movie, I'm not sure from what religion, but it was the religion Moses's wife believed in, they've mentioned a g-d in their song or smth. that god's existence was never put into question and barely even mentioned. (she wasn't a Hebrew was she? I can't remember her outside of the movie)
and last thing, the g-d of the Hebrews was always presented AS the g-d of the Hebrews, and never just g-d, that's how he presented himself to Moses as well.
tldr: yeah, the movie isn't doing that much to present the Egyptian g-ds as real, but it's not outright dismissing them either, there's room for interpretation for both sides of the argument, and I believe that's intentional. again this is just looking at the movie and not the original story.
Acknowledging and condemning antisemitism isn’t “weaponizing” it and Al Jazeera is owned by a terrorist organization I’m so fucking sick of everything everyone fuck off
literally cannot reblog a single post by random fandom accounts on this webbed site because every single time i search israel on their blog it’s always blood libel misinformation o’clock. meanwhile they don’t have a word to say about any other geopolitical issue to have ever happened.
i know i’ve complained about this before but jesus christ
hey good faith question- do you mind elaborating on judaism’s belief of g-d not being the ‘one true g-d’ and just the ‘g-d of the hebrews?
sure, but keep in mind that I wasn't raised in a religious house, so I'm not an expert and this could be inaccurate, you could wait to see if other people would elaborate in reblogs or replies.
a lot of religions have the belief that they worship the true g-d(s) and everyone else is wrong and are worshipping (a) false g-d(s). I believe Christianity works like that.
in the Tanach, there is no claim that other religions' g-ds don't exist, in fact, there are instances were miracles from other g-ds happen, but the jewish g-d is described as unique and stronger than others.
for example, in the story of The Exodus (is that how יציאת מצרים is called in english), when Moses comes to the Pharaoh for the first time to ask to release the Hebrews, he showcases Hashem's (the Jewish g-d) strength by turning his staff into a snake, the Pharaoh's magicians(?) then proceed to also turn their staffs into snakes, but Moses's snake eats theirs. the story doesn't show their g-ds as non-existent, they gave the magicians the same powers as Hashem, but the power of Hashem was stronger and thus Moses's snake won over the other snakes.
foreign worship is banned in Judaism, not because the foreign g-ds are false, but because they're not Hashem, I don't know how to explain it but that's how it works.
I can maybe count on one hand the amount of antizionist goyim I've interacted with who were able to hold a civil conversation about politics without dismissing the other side for being "zionists" (and by that I mean, start spewing slurs and death threats)
and I've had dozens of interactions in the past 4 months.
Living in the islamic regime is like waking up every morning to the news of one more innocent person getting the death penalty because they just wanted to live and be free.
why do we even need to beg goyim to stop being antisemitic at protests???
with any other issue, it's ALWAYS "always be respectful of other cultures no matter what, don't be bigoted, being bigoted is for right wingers ☺️", why is Judaism any different???
how did leftists, who are made of so many queer and poc people, who KNOW how hard it is to be a minority and fight for rights and discrimination, get to the point where most diaspora Jews feel unsafe IN THEIR VICINITY.
fucking hell, be as much anti-Israel as you want, blame the country for the government's actions, idfc anymore, but why are you letting things escalate so much that you're chanting "there is only one solution", "go back to Poland", "globalize the intifada" and target Jewish facilities and people?????
what the fuck did diaspora Jews do??? are they personally shooting Palestinians in the head??? are they publicly calling for Gaza to be bombed to the ground??? because the only one I saw chanting for the destruction of a major city is antizionists in columbia chanting "burn Tel Aviv to the ground".
For too many people "free speech" means the freedom for yourself and the people you agree with to say whatever you want and not face any consequences whatsoever.
