egg and server consistency: a retrospective

so, the other day I got hit with the thought, "who's even still in the qsmp anymore?" in a like, logging in consistently sense. not a leaving permanently sense. and it made me realize how this drop happens every time the eggs go away.

like don't get me wrong. I know the french are gone in solidarity with pomme, and some others likely don't want to join until they know what's going on with the legal stuff.

but eggs in general. why do they do this.

I've seen people say the eggs are the heart of the server. they're the core of it. and I think that's really unfair. like. don't get me wrong. I am an egg loving fool. but to say they are the beating heart and core of the server ignores the cultural and language boarders qsmp has managed to cross.

The meetups. The culture exchange. The language learning. Bad wanting YD to log on because they can actually communicate on the server. Aka friendships that would never have happened otherwise.

THAT is the heart of this server.

However, thinking back on Chunsik (춘식)'s introduction, I think the eggs' core purpose was hit on the head. They are a built in friend. A built in lore mate. You take care of them, and they keep you from being alone in the world.

Do you have a weird timezone? One of the eggs are bound to be up. Most of the streamers at cons during a new members arrival? Whelp here come the egg squad. Your character has lore they need to keep secret but they need a trusted sounding board to show the audience? Whelp that's your whole child. Who could you trust more? Your characters egg shaped child sure does! YOU REFUSE TO GO TO SLEEP MR HALO? Well between like 5 eggs surely someone can keep you company. You don't think anyone cares about your characters spiral?

The system was designed, on purpose or not, to make the players CARE. This was their friend that they could only see on here, because of the behind the scenes rules, that they had to help to keep around on a mechanic level. So of course they were logging in day after day.

hey everyone! i want to first off thank everyone for your support bc it's meant a lot to me throughout this whole shitshow <3 in better news too, for everyone following the last 4 months of my life and how shitty those have been, i've been grinding my butt off over on twitch and i'll be eligible to get paid next month! not an insane amount, by any means, but enough to cover some bills which i'm so excited about because it means things are turning around.

as of right now, shit's still pretty rough and there's no way to get an advanced payout so i'll have to wait until the 12th for that. i've sold pretty much everything i could sell that i own, and i've been doing some odd translation jobs but it just hasn't even remotely come close to something livable for me. i have around 20€ to my name and that's because a friend was kind enough to help me.

i have to show up at everyone's doorstep on tumblr dot com standing at the doorway, but i know in a different time i would've urged anyone to ask for help every single time they needed it so i'm taking a page out of my own book and putting this out there in case anyone wants to help <3 it'd mean so much to me if you could reblog, but either way thank you for letting me step on my soapbox and have a beautiful day! this is my p*ypal <3

Abusive corporation claims to make changes, passive aggressively blames the whistleblowers for things not changing to turn people against them, and release new shiny content to distract from the work place abuse and win back support from fans

Egg admins are still being iced out while qstudios profits off their hard work.

Events are set up last minute 2 days in advance.

RP actors are still very active on the server even tho one of the first things Q said was that there would be no actors on the server until everyone is paid.

Nothing has changed. And the distraction is working.

kinda hate the philosophy some people here have of "just shut up about all the issues with the server oh my god :/// youre so annoying ://///" like they try and peddle it as not "spreading negativity" but you know its actually mostly because they dont wanna feel bad about supporting workplace abuse (the other smaller bit is just people who are too parasocial with a company to care about the workers)

i just wish they could've left dapper and pomme's beds together in bad's home. they're gone, can they just rest now? can their characters have a happy ending? if theyre kidnapped by the federation, then that's it, that's their ending. bad's not gonna get them back. there's not gonna be a reunion scene.
