have spent my study time the past few days learning some basic sign language & the respect i already had for people who are skilled in such a physically complex language has tripled

#i keep tripping over myself; obviously its going to be like that as a beginner #but its much more difficult than I expected in all honesty #not that i thought itd be easy by any means #decided to start learning bc theres an elderly man at the local markets i go to who is deaf #& i want to be able to communicate with him at least on a basic level in a way thats easier for him #although i suppose its also a good skill to have in general #anyways; just gotta keep practicing #itll be a while before i see him again so hopefully by then ill be less… bad at it lmao

tbh i still can’t understand why anyone would not want to learn other languages. like you can open a book full of once alien-like symbols, and actually know what it’s saying. it’s gotta be one of the best feelings in the world
