Ooh, have you seen Milanese buttonholes? Super labour-intensive and purely aesthetic, but they’re gorgeous. Probably right up Hannibal’s street!

Hannibal’s surgeon’s cuffs
According to Gentleman’s Quarterly and The Art of Manliness, cuff buttons (whether functional or non-functional) are a relic of military “pips” marking rank.
Functioning cuff buttons are also known as “surgeon’s cuffs”, since they allowed army surgeons to roll back their jacket sleeves to quickly perform operations. This let surgeons attend patients spouting blood without removing their coats—an important distinction that set them apart from shirt-sleeved tradesmen of the lower orders. Since surgeons used to be of far higher social class than they usually are today, buttoned cuffs became an indicator of rank and social status. Surgeon’s cuffs are also more labor-intensive to make than non-functioning buttons or a buttonless cuff, and so their presence usually marks a high-quality garment.
Nowadays surgeon’s cuffs indicates high-end or bespoke suits. Some wearers leave one or two buttons undone to reveal that they can afford a bespoke suit -  a subtle sort of flaunting of the wearer’s wealth and refined taste.
sources: (1) (2) (3) and xshiromorix who visited Hannibal’s set including the costuming department and got sources for this wonderful fun fact! :)
The level of detail (’we may never know!) they put into the show is incredible! :)

Promotional illustration for bakerstreetvienna, an end of September Sherlock Holmes convention! We went with a waltzing, “Blue Danube”, kind of romantic theme. Special thanks to Silvia for getting me this assignment!

Gonna preface this by saying that Moffat can go eat shit
Benedict’s net worth is closer to $15 million; $4 million was what he was worth in 2012, and he’s been in a fair number of things since then
Just out of interest:
Jonny Lee Miller net worth: $10 million Martin Freeman net worth: $15 million
I'm not having a pop at Elementary, but Benedict is a lot more famous than anybody on their show. - Moffat

As some of you know, BSBs Curly and Sora (along with areyoutryingtodeduceme) are driving 10,000 miles this summer from London to Ulan Ude, Russia for charity. It’s called The Mongol Rally, and you can learn all about their team, The Nerdventurists, at their website. They’re supporting Cool Earth, which protects rainforests, and The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America.
As a way to raise funds for the trip and charities, Curly has started making fandom candles (FANDLES!) and she’s started a Sherlock Holmes line. So far there’s just Holmes, Watson, and Molly, but more are planned and will be rolling out throughout the month.
Here’s descriptions of those so far!
Sherlock Holmes [link]
Sherlock Holmes is the most brilliant detective, and what better to detect than this brilliant candle? This rich scent is pure Holmes from the deep smell of sandalwood to the light mix of lavender and vanilla to the spark of brilliant citrus. Mmm, smells of deduction.
Dr. John Watson [link]
Steadfast vanilla bean brimming with a swirl of cinnamon perfectly encapsulates the doctor and soldier that Dr. John Watson is. Also, it’s sassy. Sassy John Watson.
Molly Hooper [link]
A light floral scent of cherry blossoms with an undertone of vanilla sweeten this Molly Hooper inspired candle. May you be worthy of Molly Hooper’s love one day. In the meantime, here’s a candle.
These and more are available at the Nerdventurist Bazaar.

The Regimental Tie
Amongst the accessories all Kingsman agents receive, this silk tie is one of the least deadly. But with its navy base and red and white stripes, it is symbolic of the country they represent - and is presumably perfectly serviceable for strangling enemies with anyway.
1. Kingsman x Drake’s Striped Woven Tie £120 / $180 Available here at mrporter.com (more stock soon)
2. T.M. Lewin Navy Slim Tie £35 / $50 Available here at tmlewin.co.uk
3. Hammond & Co. Blue Textured Tie £20 / $30 Available here at debenhams.com
4. Thomas Nash Red Striped Tie £10 / $15 Available here at debenhams.com

Kingsman agents tie their ties in a Windsor knot (don’t forget the dimple!). Make sure you tighten the knot properly, or you may end up looking more like a football commentator…

Benedict Cumberbatch at the 87th Academy Awards
While he sadly didn’t win an Oscar for his outstanding portrayal of Alan Turing in The Imitation Game yesterday, Benedict stood out on the red carpet in a classic black tie alternative!
Suit Farewell Spencer Hart, hello Scabal! Benedict wore a made-to-measure white dinner jacket in a Scabal Festival silk, with a shawl collar and satin trim. His poplin shirt, with French cuffs and vintage black onyx studs, was also from Scabal.
Accessories Scabal provided his silk bow tie and matching pocket square (as well as his socks!), while his black patent leather Oxfords were from Tod’s (available here for £200). Although we didn’t see it very much, his watch was from Cartier.
P.S. Sophie looked absolutely breathtaking in her Lanvin dress!

We're back!
Tumblr media
(GIF credit)
Wear Sherlock was closed two weeks ago, and since then we (the ex-admins) have been working furiously to get everything back up and running. All the posts from the old blog have been reuploaded (some have been freshened up a bit) and are now ready for your perusal once more. Check out the Tags page to get started!
It’ll be business as usual here as we continue to post items from the actors’ wardrobes and hopefully run a giveaway or two during the long wait until Series 4. We’ll also be working with the Baker Street Babes to expand the blog in new and exciting ways, so watch this space!
We hope you will enjoy Sherlock Unravelled; we really do love doing this and have no intention of stopping any time soon!
- Jun and Risa
P.S. We’re on Twitter too!

To those of you who are worried about the loss of reference material (as well as more content) - don't worry, there are plans afoot for something new...
Goodbye from Wear Sherlock
Dear followers and visitors,
It is with sadness that I write this post, informing you all that Wear Sherlock and its associated accounts will be closing. This is due to personal reasons I do not wish to disclose in such a public space, and I hope you can understand.
I’d like to thank the blog’s wonderful admins, thegeekinterpreter and sherlockmolly, who have put in countless hours of hard work for Wear Sherlock over the last few years. The blog really wouldn’t have been the same without them. I would also like to thank the brilliant 221bcon for their friendliness and expertise, and to whom I will pass on the remaining donations that Wear Sherlock received. To everyone who contributed to this blog, submitted their finds, and offered their help, thank you – I am truly grateful for your support.
There are many alternative sites that feature the props and costumes from BBC Sherlock. I would suggest visiting Sherlockology’s props and costume pages here, and this highly detailed pinterest page.
Thank you all for following and interacting with Wear Sherlock over the last four years, it has been really fun and I hope you enjoyed the blog. Goodbye :)
Caz
