So back in original vanguard/G era I couldn’t really afford a proper deck. I had a half built Blaster royals deck and a couple of other 1/4th built decks I wanted to build but couldn’t scrape together the funds for. As a result, I was lucky if I’d win ONE game when I went to my locals or a game or two whenever I played with my friends. I just could not afford the current cards. As a result I never bothered with trying to win and learn and just had fun and was happy I was able to play Vanguard AT ALL. Fast forward to current day when I finally can afford MULTIPLE fully built decks...and I’m still getting my ass kicked. At first, again, I didn’t care because I’ve always been a Johnny , win or loss the joy of the game was what mattered.  Just a few minutes ago I was on the phone with one of my best friends discussing tier lists and why certian clans and decks were good or bad and I made the observation that Accel (Nova Grapplers in particular) are anomalies within Vanguard because they attempt to operate more like a ‘traditional’ aggro deck from one of the more ‘traditional’ TCGs, (Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic or Hearthstone) in the sense that they flood the board with a bunch of tiny minions and then zerg rush you down. I then made an observation that I surprised myself with  “Vanguard isn’t like other trading card games; the skills and knowledge that you’ve gained from playing Magic or Hearthstone don’t translate over to Vanguard at all.” I don’t think I’ve gone into this on this blog yet but I’ve put a LOT of time and energy into Yu-Gi-Oh!, Hearthstone and to a lesser extent Magic, and am a fairly ‘good’ player at those games which is why losing so often and so badly at Vanguard felt off to me. I was trying to play a Mario Kart like it was Call of Duty. If I want to become a decent player and live up to what my decks deserve from their player, I’ve gotta go back to basics and do a LOT of learning...

So, is it just me, or is Royal Paladin the most boring deck to play in Standard? You call dudes, draw cards and at some point attack for really big numbers. Which is the same thing that every other clan does. I get that they're supposed to be the deck of the main character but they're TOO generic.
I think part of it is because neither Alfred nor Soul Saver do what main/boss Vanguards are SUPPOSED to do in this reboot and encapsulate what the clan is clan is all about. The original Alfred could call any unit from deck and got power for each unit you had. This new Alfred only calls Blaster Blade and gets power for having Blaster Blade? Not to mention Soul Saver Dragon feels clunky as fuck and runs off a huge soulblast?
Because of Soul Saver, Royals now feel like a soul-focused clan which they were NEVER about before. Not mention they only have 2 cards that soul charge and only one of them is playable.
Personally, I'd like to see something of a return to form: Change Alfred to a CB2 to call 1 unit from deck and give him 2k for each RG as opposed to 10 for JUST blaster blade and maybe give him a critical if you've got a full field. This way you're incentivised to flood the board which is what Royals are all about.
On similar lines make Soul Saver soul blast 1 G3 and give all RG 5k for every other RG on the field. That way the clans motto of working together to gain strength is reflected in their gameplay
These are just off the top of my head of course, don't know how actually balanced they'd be but they'd give Royals some form of set IDENTITY at least and make them more fun to play...

Aaaaaaa I've been so bad about posting to this! I'm going to try to do better especially since I've been having so much fun with Vanguard lately and I love the game so much.
First of all METATRON IS BACK! :D :D :D and she looks so good! :D I fell in love with the Crimson series back in Season 2 and was really hoping we'd get them in G but didn't expect much since they were relatively obscure. I REALLY hope the other girls show up too, I've missed them so much. I want metatron to have her team with her like Nouvelle has. But Metatron is only RRR so it's unlikely. :( At least that means she'll be affordable...I hope.

Wait, Chrono SERIOUSLY didn’t realize Chrono Dran was Chronojet Dragon? Was supposed to be a plot twist? Did anybody NOT recognize this approximately 5 seconds AFTER Chrono Dran was revealed?

I need to sit myself down and have a long hard talk with myself about how many decks I really need.
I think Hearthstone has spoiled me. I’ve already got Royals and Kagero finished and I dropped $200 on Destructive Roar during our sneak peek night because I intend on building Tachis, Spikes AND Megas (Though to be fair I’m only building Megas because one of my girlfriends wants to play them) I’m ALSO intending on building Dimension Police from Q4 and kinda want to build Aquas too. I intended to build OTTs before Q4 was released but I saw how popular they were and my Hipster reflex kicked in and I didn’t after all. Now I’m planning on going back and building them again after all and picking up the skeleton of a Nova deck for when they later get enough support to be playable. I’m PROBABLY going to slip AL4 entirely (Depends on what the boss monsters of Shadows look like) but I kinda want to get Golds and Angel Feathers from Ultra Rare. Though I can probably talk myself out of Angels if they’re just going to be Celestials, which I never liked. Basically, if I get every deck I WANT to get I’ll have 11 decks. Setting the obscene cost of THAT many decks aside I just don’t play Vanguard enough to justify that. Maybe once the mobile game comes out I’ll be able to satisfy my hoarder tendencies...

I forgot how much I love Vanguard...
I’ve only been playing with one of my friends mostly, but it’s so much fun in it’s current state. I hope Bushi can keep the power creep down to a reasonable level this time around because I want to keep having this much fun for as long as I can

So glad they played up the triumvirate of Kai, Ren AND Aichi instead of just Ren and Aichi. Then again, the manga does put more weight behind Kai then the anime does I feel like.

Also, why does winning a card game mean TRY3 is somehow qualified to join in on a MILITARY FUCKING RAID? THERE AREN’T EVEN CARDS INVOLVED IN THIS ONE

The GIRS Crisis finale is doing it’s best to make destroying public utilities seem heroic.

So yeah GIRS Crisis was...underwhelming. I get that the intention was to be a passing of the baton from the old generation to the new but all it really did was make it feel like Try3 REALLY didn’t deserve it and made the old character seem weak compared to how strong they were in the original series. Shion Kiba being the exception. His character arc and battle with Kai in the finale were both SPECTACULAR. I found myself far more impressed and invested in his character by the end of GIRS Crisis than I was at the beginning. Also it really bugs me that the GIRS Crisis itself had basically NOTHING to do with the overall plot of the season other than to get namedropped in the finale. Not to mention the fact that the act of GIRS crisis itself was some next-level handwaving that had to have had the writers for Legion Mate raising some eyebrows. tl;dr Now that I’ve watched GIRS Crisis once there’s basically no reason to re-visit it exept to rewatch the Shion-centric content

I really wish GIRS Crisis had given team Try3 some sort of antagonist or foil. Even Season 1 at least had Team Demise. A reoccuring rival team competing for the G Quest against Try3 intead of having them steamroll the G Quests and occasionally hearing about a shadowy nebulous enemy who never DOES anything would go a long way to making this a really interesting season. As it stands, it’s kinda fun...but ultimately uninteresting.

I find myself enjoying GIRS Crisis more than I did the first season of G. Maybe because there’s an actual plot from the get-go this time.

I just spent like an hour explaining the concept of trading card games to my mom...

I keep on trying to watch Vanguard G but holy shit I just do not care about ANY of these characters in the slightest. Add in the fact they felt the need to basically skip the cardfights themselves and THEN add in commercials for the product for which we’re ALREADY WATCHING and you’ve got a dud on your hands. I think I’ll just read episode summaries until I get to the part where Q4 comes back and gives me a reason to watch this show again.

Meanwhile I’m just sitting here amused at the fact that the first into for Vanguard G was called “Break It” when Strides sure as hell DID end up breaking the game.

I had the idea for this fanfic bouncing around in my head for YEARS, as soon as everyone in Vanguard started declaring that Aichi was their “mate”. I am Omegaverse trash, and I do not apologize.
