It Starts With A Fire

I’m super super excited to post my first keenler fic! i hope you all enjoy <3 It’s also on my AO3/ffnet if y’all wanna read it on there :) 

Summary: When Ressler’s apartment burns down, Liz insists there’s nowhere for him to go but her place- at least until he gets back on his feet. Turns out though, for all the million reasons there is to leave, he’s just waiting for one to stay.

Or, a love story in three parts.

Part 1- The Fire

The way the landlord explains it, it’s entirely the lady upstairs’ fault. The truth is simpler than that. The realty company never bothered making sure the fire alarms worked and nobody knows when the last fire safety test was ever done. So when the small kitchen fire burst and blackened the walls and ate through the floor, it was already too late to do anything about it.

Ressler stares at the remnants of his apartment building, smoke still spiralling in the air. A good chunk of it’s still fine, but the entire eastern top half is just a hunk of metal, wires and crumbling concrete. Distantly, he hears the sound of glass shattering as a windowpane plummets to the ground. He’s oddly dispassionate about it all. His home is completely demolished and he’s standing in minus eight-degree weather with his hands already numb but he’s so calm it’s mildly terrifying.

His apartment just burnt to bits and he can’t be bothered.

Can’t remember if I’ve ever shared my personal history with the show on here or not, but here goes! 🙂

It was a show that my parents regularly watched during its first season, so I would occasionally catch episodes with them. I remember seeing most of the Jolene episode (when the slowed-down song plays?! SO GOOD!) and the season finale and being so intrigued. I also saw most of the Luther Braxton episode that aired after the Super Bowl, and was, again, really interested. I had so many questions for my parents during that episode, most of which they couldn’t answer or didn’t know yet [main one: what is Red and Liz’s relationship? (side note: can’t believe it’s all these years later and we still don’t know 🙃)], so I ended up watching the series for myself when I later saw that it was on Netflix. I started shipping keenler during the first season because I loved their dynamic and iconic moments, and the shipping continued during my season two watch. I started dipping a toe into fandom before I finished watching season two, and I remember reading a fanfic where keenler kissed during the s2 finale that I thought was real 🙈 so I was slightly disappointed to find out that didn’t actually happen when I watched the episode 😂 but I was so into the show after that finale and so excited for season three! Season three was the first that I actively followed while it was airing, and I think it also marked the peak of my investment with the show 😅

I want to say I created this blog prior to or during season four? Not sure exactly, but I guess that marked my formal introduction into the fandom. I know I watched seasons four and five while they were airing, and that’s when I did the most content creating. My dedication to the show started dipping more in season six, and I started taking longer to watch episodes after they aired. That continued with season seven, which I actually still haven’t finished 😬 I’m trying to finish it now, though, since I’ve watched the first two episodes of season eight (I might not have if I hadn’t been spoiled for the keenler kiss 🙈 I haven’t been crazy about the plot of the show in a while, but it’s not every day one of your OTPs goes canon after eight years!), and I want to be caught up on everything that’s happened!

I’d love to get back to a point where I’m more engaged and creating again for this fandom - I have a few incomplete fanfictions and edits from years ago that would feel great to finish and put out there! This show has meant a lot to me at different points in my life, and I love the online community of others who love it, too. ❤️

hey blacklist friends :D i want to get to know the community better, so out of curiosity, what first got you into Blacklist?

i’ll start; i watched the pilot episode a week after it aired bc someone in my family recorded it on the dvr, got super interested in the mystery from then on, and as they say... the rest is history! the show has had its ups and downs (and i’ve fallen behind on a few seasons ngl, but i’ve mostly caught up now) but i’m still here, seven years later :) i will definitely be watching to the very end

i’m excited to see how this fandom came to be! it’s been so fun theorizing and talking about the show with y’all for years, i’m looking forward to more of it when the show comes back!
