concept sketch for a guardians of ga’hoole Oc I’ve had floating around in my head

they were hatched on a solar eclipse, rather than a lunar eclipse. some weird effects stemmed from it - with the disc of their face becoming silvery-white, rather than the face itself like traditional nyrolian owls. Their parents had decided to follow the naming tradition anyways, figuring - they were born on an eclipse, even if it wasn’t a lunar eclipse, so they should follow the same naming convention.

Haven’t fully fleshed out this guy yet but I’ll post more later maybe

Here, have two VERY important OCs! A beautiful Greater Sooty Owl and a gorgeous mixed breed, one teasing the other.

The Tenebricosa is indeed fortunate to be this hulking monster's mate. And yes, the brown owl is that large.

Please excuse the ugliness of this piece of art. It's a sketch, and besides, I like it and I am proud how it turned out.

Surtr's vocal cords

I think Surtr could have sustained vocal cord damage throughout the years without an upper beak.

I highly doubt that an open cavity is good for the vocal cords and the mouth in general. It would explain the occasional crack in his voice.

Screech owls get tall and skinny to camouflage with trees they're perched in.

Cedar's instinct is to blend in while he assesses a situation. Once he has determined all is good, he'll return to his comfy orb shape. 🦉

a young buffy fish owl/malay fish owl perched on a mangrove root at Sungei Buloh Wetlands Reserve in Singapore.

Honestly the sexism in the ga'hoole movie drives me nuts because like why did you make the women shorter. Why did they go against a commonly known fact about raptors??? Would the guys' eyes start bleeding if they saw a tall woman??? It's just bizarre........
