The message in this book is why I choose to be at an independent school. I would love to get involved in education reform, but unfortunately that would be like moving an iceberg with a tow truck. The standardized testing industry (4 billion a year in revenue) has ruined the worth of higher education in America. Simply put, higher education teaches you little, if anything, you'll need to succeed in life. Widespread changes are needed if we want to help shape the creative, innovative leaders of tomorrow. Change needs to happen quickly and decisively. We are still preparing kids for the manufacturing era, with emphasis on knowledge and content, as opposed to creative, collaborative, and innovative skills. I We need to see an executive order abolishing standardized testing and refocusing our education on hiring creative teachers who inspire students to learn the necessary skills valuable to their futures. Highly recommend this book to all educators and parents, to understand where we've been, where we're headed, and where we need to go!
