This is Gob. I do not think a gobstopper would have the heart to stop even one of her, let alone 1 million!

2,300-Year-Old Plush Bird from the Altai Mountains of Siberia (c.400-300 BCE): this artifact was crafted with a felt body and reindeer-fur stuffing, all of which remains intact
This stuffed bird was sealed in the frozen barrows of Pazyryk, Siberia, for more than two millennia, where a unique microclimate enabled it to be preserved. The permafrost ice lense formation that sits just beneath the barrows provides an insulating layer, preventing the soil from heating during the summer and allowing it to quickly freeze during the winter; these conditions produce a separate microclimate within the stone walls of the barrows themselves, thereby aiding in preservation.
This is just one of the many well-preserved artifacts that have been found at Pazyryk. These artifacts are attributed to the Scythian/Altaic cultures.

This is Virginia Clamm! She’s a delicate lady, very introverted; when nobody’s watching, she enjoys singing, making jewelry, and filter feeding. When people *are* watching, though, her favorite thing to do is pretend to be a rock… though she is often betrayed by her tiny peeking eyes.
Virginia was acquired at the store where I usually buy my Jellycats. She had evidently been there for some time; she had been marked down twice! Her hilarious tongue and wiggly eyes made me laugh out loud; when she saw what we were buying, the cashier laughed too. In all fairness, it is pretty funny to have two goths come into a cutesy home goods store and stomp up to the counter together to purchase any sort of plushie, let alone a puppet of a giant clam.
Virginia Clamm is a Folkmanis giant clam puppet. She is named for Virginia Clemm Poe, the wife of Edgar Allan.

This handsome beast is Mr. Ruurd Lowieke Peebles!
I haven’t quite decided how Mr. Peebles fits into my critters’ lore yet, but he’s a prized addition to my collection all the same. He’s a Jellycat Zigzag Gecko; I discovered and fell in love with the design only after it had been retired and was no longer anywhere to be found in any American store. In fact, only two stores appeared to have them in stock anywhere in the world: one in France and one in Sweden. Neither one would ship to the US.
Luckily, I have wonderful European friends, and one of them--one of my best and oldest friends, but one whom I have never met in person--kindly purchased him for me and forwarded him to my address in Utah, even with the increased costs incurred by the war in Ukraine.
To me, there’s something very funny and beautiful about being shipped something as innocuous and fripperous as a stuffed gecko from halfway round the world, a stuffed gecko that’s been held and petted by friends you’ve never met, in a time of unrest. There’s lots of wretched stuff in the world. But there’s also Mr. Peebles.
Mr. Peebles’ first and middle names were suggested by the Dutch friend who went to such pains to procure him for me. His surname is from the titular character in the short story “Mr. Peebles’ Heart.”

Maxine has a new Manhattan Toys velveteen friend! A Barnes and Noble I went to today somehow still had one of the old ones, from 2020, before they changed to the weird shaggy fabric, and my boyfriend very kindly humored me and picked him up.
His name is Henry Bapbap; he’s an ineffectual enforcer for Alms the loan shark.
